  1. Don't think it is out of order Ian. The scheme is aimed at people who in some way show that there not wanting or not willing to work. Gnarlyoak, surely if everything is taken into account he's making more than min wage???
  2. No PPE supplied for hand brashing, that's ludicrous. Working for 4 days at £12 a day is terrible (£48 a week) how do you manage rent and the like??? and as for having to wash every day and buy all your own extra food with nothing extra to help you tut tut, here I'll get a kitty together for you to help you out and get you a nice break away, lazy muppet...
  3. If done properly a better end crop along with proper thinning
  4. Great saw, goes for ever, got the power and fast cutting. Can be a bit temperamental on hot days when worked hard (but who isn't). Good clean, fresh petrol, new plug, tuned in, new air and petrol filter prob be as good as new. My old one now runs a auger.
  5. The customer is aware that he's never done anything like this before. The fact that he's asking for advice and the best way to do it shows that he is looking to do it properly.
  6. I agree with jrose that you're way to cheap, probably explains why the customer is so eager to pay you to have a go. Bump your price up, hire a wee digger and anything else you need to ease the back breaking. Hard to say what to do without seeing the job.
  7. Just wondered the views and opinions of everyone else on their choice of firewood processor? Have a Palax KS 35 and its fantastic, never used any other so can't compare, also have browns log splitter, again fantastic.
  8. Why chrome or stainless? What about wood? Could do complicated or design or just log cut to size with top cut at slant.
  9. Its not the fear of heights, its the fear of FALLING

    poor pay

Think every district of the country has different wage needs depending on living costs but £7.50 per hour sounds not bad to me. Might even be tempted to apply..... What rates do you think should be offered???? Anyone else self employed working for the same or even less????
  11. Have a Farmi CH 160. Its done very little as burn most branches and sell as much of the wood as viable. Was offered £4300 for it the other day and am in two minds what to do. Its great at times but for most just sits about yard taking up space. Should I or shouldn't I. ??????????

  13. Missus reckons fill with topsoil then add a layer of about 2" of compost on top then mix first 4" together, the goodness of the compost will wash down the rest with the weather.
  14. you need to stop drinking so much:001_smile:
  15. Contact the council and ask them
  16. Wet land drainage plays a huge part in there demise. So called do gooders marking nests and checking them everyday can't help either and surely heather burning at the start of their courtship period has got to be off putting for them and other moorland and hill birds. Just my observation of it all.

  19. I paid £25 a pole 2 year ago for a 100 of them for a cattle pen. Came all the way from Grimsby to Highlands.
  20. No offence but farmers don't work anymore hours than the rest of us, they like to think they do. Probably getting diversification grants to get equipment therefore can price work cheaper without all the overheads that the rest of us have.
  21. Times are hard, pays not always great but there's a lot of industries alike at the moment. As for Horatios comment of being too old, rubbish.... maybe not fit enough ( thats what the railway does) but that can be fixed. Job about put out feelers.
  22. Why not try getting a job with someone local who does this kind of work, even a weekend helping, see if you like it, get an idea of what to do and equipment needed, you might love it or hate it, but find out first before you spend your money.
  23. Ifor williams one I had went over ladder rack and slid between it and back window
