Well he is Irish. That's just as bad as Scottish :lol::lol::lol::001_tt2: Now I'm in two minds over the posting service. You can easily buy one on ebay that will post a new saw to you. May not be cheaper but they will and in this day of Internet shopping and doing it on the go with iPhones and iPads everyone does it now. Makes life easy. If I was to go to jones to buy a saw that's an hour and a half trip there then back again. That's a full day out of my working. It's ten mins on the iPad and I just wait for things to turn up. But I can see that going to a dealer is also beneficial as they can run through the saw with you and ensure you know the run in period. Also try and sell you all manner of shiny stuff in the process I'm pretty sure that you don't need cs30 + tickets to buy a saw. Only the toppers.

Ok. Could be the bushes holding the clutch on. They may be rusty and to allowing the clutch to expand under load. Take the clutch off give it all a good clean and check the drum isn't damaged. Inspect the springs aswell. Although normally its hard to see if they are worn but easy to see if one has snapped.

Yeah pretty much. Unlike a saw the clutch is more free floating. It's not fixed int he centre. There is a cover with two bolts holding it on. Remove these and the clutch is behind. Held on by bushes. The drum is behind the clutch. If you have a vice clamp the engine in it and give it a run with the clutch on. Check the working end of the cutter to ensure its not at this end. So is the cutter working and free to move ok?

Yep. Remove the clutch cover with the two bolts. Clutch is under it. Then just pull clutch up and out. When re fitting tighten down to 12nm or 8.8lbf.ft.

Done the mower today. Easy job. Removed belts and then pulleys. On the bench the pulley where wobbling about. Centre bush had gone, new one fitted (not oem) now tight. Back together and test run. Perfect. These little mtd ride ons are quick when they are in high gear. Scary turning on a steep slope at full chat... Variable pulley was all good. No touching on the centre. And free to move up and down. Was missing a spacer washer at the bottom. Replaced also. Sharpend another mower blade. And still waiting on a meteor piston and cylinder kit aswell. Getting twitchy waiting for it as I really want to check out the cylinder.

Well I'm thinking oiler issue. Not sure on the op. is the saw running high on revs or just the chain moving?

Ok. I guess there is a problem here somewhere. I'm lost by the posts. So I will stick to John. So it will rev high then die out. This sound like too much air to fuel or too little fuel to air. S I'm guessing by asking where the fuel filter is you think there is a fuel supply issue? Could be blocked tank vent or fuel filter. Both could just need a clean. With tank empty suck through the fuel line with cap on. The tank vent should allow air into tank but not out. So a blow into line is also good. A tester is perfect for this. Other than that a dirty carb will cause the issue.

I would look into Honda mowers, fantastic machines, should be some good bargains on ebay. Nothing myth wrong with a second hand one for now is there?

Run of t he mill stuff. A mower blade to sharpen and balance. An ms250 coming in. Yes that one. A hedge cutter coming in for sharpen. Done a long reach and double sided already. The ride on is on the list to go and do tomorrow. Doing it the owners garage. He has some nice tools and he is giving them all up. Moving house and his house is going up for sale. He has an old army 110 he has restored that he is going to sell aswell. Might have to check the funds. Got some chain lifting gear from him yesterday. Will put a pic up on gardenkits thread when I take one. I have no use for them but I'm sure someone will.

Yep here is the one that was on my bench a few months back for a clean up. Tune up and sharpen. Gave it a good going over and test before going back. I fired up when I filled the tank before I even touched it and was sitting in a. Shed for a few years. Edit: it had a problem with the off switch. I wasn't working but after a clean up worked fine.

I'm sure I had a 61 one in a while ago. I'm sure it was a rancher. If memory serves me. Was a tight saw with lots of power for the bar size. Oh yeah it was just as the troublesome 200t came in. Them saws are the devils work they are.......

That is a tidy mower but I'm afraid I have no use for it exept to maybe strip it down and put it away for parts. But then it will take up space. Hmmm now I'm just thinking. Maybe.

Forced hot air system.not seen much in this country but works well. Can be eithe rags or electric.

Nope that's defiantly NOT the problem. As if it was made in Sweden it would come in with a different fault every time. Not an oprator error :001_tt2::lol: Not sure I would want to noodle a non pro users saw...... Will find out on Wednesday when it comes in.

:lol::lol: Yes that's my plan, when it comes in he is going to start it. And I'm just going to stand and watch. He managed to start it last time after calling me and saying it had flooded so told him to pull plug. Pull it over a few times. Wait five mins and try again. It ran up an dowries perfectly after.

Yes because Roy (lom) was moaning about the price of them. Got them from another local (ish) mower shop. I havnt fitted any new belts to the mower, just replaced a bush and reset the belts in place. The front one was coming loose when it shouldn't have like you said. Anyway the mower runs fine now just the scrapping with the pulleys wobbling when its engaged. If one bush was worn it would make sense the other would be aswell. Just didn't check them when I had the assembly apart.

Hhhmmmm. Aspen man will love that suggestion. I know he uses the stihl one shot mix bottles. Why I'm not overly concerned its the mix. But anyway. It's not really a fault wage the saw. This I know as as soon as I get hold of it without even checking it has fuel in I fire it up and run it into a bit of timber. Before its even warmend up. Just straight into some. Then shut it off and re start it. It's perfect. So operator error. Going to watch very carefully when it comes in next and he can show me how he starts it up. If he starts it and it runs perfectly then I'm just going to offer to test it and charge accordingly. Edit: beat me to it Barrie He only says it won't start or floods out on him. If he gets it going it won't keep going. Was a bit vaige on the phone over what it actually was. He will try and start on choke then Half choke. Then something about it stalling out on him. When floods he removes plug and its soaked wet. I'm thinking he is missing it on choke and keeps going with choke on full. Then it floods.

Well that's the next step. He is dropping it off whilst picking up a mower. If he still insists its playing around then I will have to take it in. But on agreement over a cost of testing the saw. Grass hopper. This was the original problem it came to me with. I sorted it out but he is still complaining its not running properly. I have even told him before to fill it up with his fuel before bringing it in just to make sure I'm running it to his mix. Just incase his mix is doing it. I'm just at a loss as to what to do. I will take it in but not sure what I'm going to do other than just test it. And re doing tests I have performed already just get tedious and takes up valuable time I could be repairing other tools. I'm going to hav WTO work it out so I do the tests along with other saws. So if I need to vac test a saw I can do this one at the same time. Or I will be pulling the testing gear in and out all day.

Ok so one for the repair shops really but anyone please jump in. I have had a saw come back to me a few times recently. It's an ms250. I have tested the saw every what way I know. I have run it and used it. But still getting calls saying its not working. I have shown it working to the customer and shown and checked how he starts it. Seems right to me. There is NOTHING wrong with the saw. It's fine. I have worked it. I've comp tested it, vac tested it, pressure tested it, carb cleaned, carb tested and checked. I've spent a few hours on this saw to check everything in the past times its been in. The first time it came to me the meter arm was out so adjusted it back. Now its just getting annoying. So the question I have is. What would you do? Do you have it in and test it all again? Test it run it and send it back after charging for the time doing tests and cleaning? Just say there is nothing wrong with it, and teach how to start the saw the correct way, if this is the problem? I'm at a loss and I've been told by the other that when I get fed up with people I have a bad habit of just being rude to them. I don't mean to be just the way end up coming accross.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates them. T he centre pulley is a right pain. The big spring is to user friendly. Took me nearly an hour and LOTS of swearing and bruised hands to get it back on. The pulleys move up and down. Will check if its touching. One bad design on this rode on is no access panel above the pulleys. So with the owners permission going to cut it out and place a panel in bolted down. The belts are new by the way. I'm not really sure what I done but it pulls up a very steep slope easily now. I removed the pulley assembly and added a new plastic bush into the arm, also after putting the belts back on the pedal felt stiffer as if it was actually doing something. Even a simple job like removing the deck was a pain. Just wasn't sure if any shims where needed in the pulleys. And if so how many. His son had replaced the belts before I got there so wasn't sure what he had pulled apart to do it. Really the belts are easy to replace. Rear one is on tensioner idler as you say and the front is held on with a metal guard bolted either side of the engine. So really they are easy to do unless you lose control of the centre pulley assembly and the big spring lets go Sorry I've got the model no.s written down somewhere. But I'm sure its a 305 model.

Ok. I am in need of a parts diagram for an mtd lawnflite ride on mower. Went out the the lifeboat managers today as he had a problem with his and his health issue has meant he can't work on it anymore. Well the rear drive belt was gone so he had his sone replace it, after it wouldn't run up hills. Well a slope. So looked at it and a bush had gone on a shaft holding the centre pulley assembly. Fine so replaced that. But it is now making a grinding noise when moving. So looked under while it was moved back and forth and the centre pulleys are wobbling. Now looking they look like a variable drive pulley. They take the main engine pulley and another belt to the rear gearbox. With the wobbling the pulley is scraping the metal assembly around it. Now first off there is no movement in the pulleys but they do move up and down on the shaft. Is there any spacers that go between them anywhere and where do they go? So anyone got a parts diagram for this machine? It's a lawnflite MTD ride on, side exit Shute.
