  1. The ads are probably based on your own search history...
  2. Kind of, but I've seen worse "pollards", and a bashed tree is better than no tree at all... They look like limes, so they'l be reet
  3. Not great but I've seen worse
  4. Prunus, Pyrus, Cedrus
  5. Great pics, great old tree!
  6. Awesome pics, I am currently volunteering at RBGE so need to get myself in gear and visit Benmore
  7. It might make a decent lightweight flexible lanyard...? I would have thought that weight wouldn't really be an issue for a climbing line, whereas it might for a lanyard.
  8. "The pruning of trees, shrubs and conifers", by George Brown/ Tony Kirkham, covers all the above and more, a great book.
  9. Lazy cypress having a rest against a headstone
  10. No it's in Edinburgh, I found it by accident, didn't even catch the name of the place
  11. Another beech pollard and a nice Pyrus.
  12. Went for a wander today and came across this nice weeping beech pollard, plus some other interesting finds... Churchyards always seem to harbour interesting and beautiful trees
  13. Found this emerging bracket (?) on a Pinus contorta var. latifolia today- I was thinking a phellinus but I'm not sure (black spores), any ideas? Found at around head height.
  14. More pics from today
  15. It means it was formerly owned by Tom Selleck.
  16. Tight access hedge!
  17. Double fishermans for the krab, double fishermans for the stopper.
  18. "how so? three way krabs? " Probably concerned about the bottom of the krab pushing the top of the hitch cord thus initiating descent (rather than krab coming open)
  19. It was brought to my attention the other day that you shouldn't let cambium savers free-fall out of the tree (especially onto hard pavement!) on retrieval for the same reason. Something that had never crossed my mind before!
  20. Out of interest, how often would you say you used 5 impact blocks at one time?
  21. Yeah for some reason the bigger saws were getting jammed more, the 88 would only cut for a minute before jamming!

If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
