  4. If towing weights importance then the Nissan and Isuzu win over a tyranny by a long way Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Cis isn't that bad once you get used to it Plus it's safe guards you if one of your submission doesn't pay his tax Without Cis a subbie could claim he is employed and thought you were making deductions and then hmrc will come at you for his tax when he doesn't pay his bit It doesn't strictly cover Tree work but if you do any work for builders / landscapers that work on construction sites, you can join the scheme Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app

  9. as a tr6 owner I can say it's great when it's working correctly but I've had more than my share of issues with the machine. All small problems but big enough to stop us working BUT an it's a big but, Redwoods backup has been and continues to be fantastic Always quick to try and diagnose and advise how to fix over the phone, if this fails, service engineers are fairly prompt and parts generally arrive by 9am the following day Which is pretty dam good I just wish I'd never had to find out how good the backup is Not sure I'd like to own a machine that was out warranty I'd like to try a tr8 but it really would depend on whether they get the reliability niggles ironed out
  10. Completely agree But it's not and never will be like that We have to work in the industry the way it is and adapt accordingly
  11. So , if the business needs have changed , the personnel don't have the skills and it's not economicly viable to train them : a) what do they do all day to earn their wage ? The can't carry out work they not trained to do b) how does the business go forward ?
  12. To a point that's correct but if the business needs have changed , the personnel don't have the relevant skills and it's not economically viable to train them, they are effectively redundant That's life - small businesses won't survive any other way People who argue otherwise should ask themselves why there are few full time jobs & this industry relies so heavily on subbies As with any other contractor - the OP prob doesn't have a bottomless pit of money Only the other day I was told employing someone is a bigger commitment than marriage , regardless of their commitment to you/the job This thread backs up that theory It should be a two way street where the numbers work for all concerned
  13. If they haven't got the skills / quals you need they could face being laid off Leaving you to replace them with qualified people that suit your business needs I too paid for all my own training in all my own time and think your offer is more than good A compromise may be for them to do it in unpaid leave rather than use up their hols
  14. I run a 55 plate 2.5 it's one of the first new shape and one of the last 2.5 invincible's Easily tows what it's legal too ( possibly more) and will get 30 -35 mpg depending how it's driven Great truck , never missed a beat but will have to part with it soon as a new baby means I need six seats at the weekend
  15. All comes as one unit Not that ford like to have your pants down or owt
  16. New accelerator pedal needed Assuming its electronic and not a cable Had a similar issue on a 53 plate transit
  17. Haix come with a no quibble 2 year guarantee , I've had two pairs swapped when they've gone buggered Never an issue - just email the supplier ( brick workwear in my case ) With serial no an photo of the failed part of boot , and the new ones are posted out Just one reason to stick with em
  18. It'll never catch on But if it did, it's still needs an operator And someone to clear the arisings No need to panic yet
  19. I've had a 53 plate for 6.5 years and it's bee fantastic, only thing it's needed is a clutch and starter ( and was converted to single mast ) Considering it is always towing and well loaded daily I think it's doing very well But a lot depends on how they're driven & serviced
  20. Will get some tomorrow if I can. All dark now and more rain on its way So finishing off the leftover turkey and bottles of red from yesterday whilst product testing a few logs
  21. We came to littleborough just up the road from hebdenbridge to spend xmas with the parents Staying an extra night as all routes out of the village are flooded , luckily were on top of the hill watching the Kaos from above
  22. Roughly speaking , half the population wouldn't know what an arborist is
  23. Best advice I can give is , work out what a job needs to be and stick to it Don't be tempted to sell yourself short just too win a job May as well do nothing as work hard and loose money/ break even
