Motorway clearance is one of the hardist jobs I have done with many feet of dence continous blackthorn thorn towering above you and tearing you to bits as you are on the cutting or on dragging At the speed of sound . By the end of the day you land up bleeding with deep scratches half way up both arms and many many of the thorns having found a new home within your hands and arms .
Ivy removal is a complete treat compared to the above
O happy days

Now thats more like it

i'm 3 miles north of huntly but i guess scbk and gibby marr are both slightly north of me (inverness and elgin).
someone told me that only 35,000 people live north of inverness i.e. only 5 people per sq km.
Yeah the farthest north i had seen on the avatars seemed to be Inverness .
Alot of people dont put their location in ( perfectly entitled ) but thought there must be people albeit not many further up than that surely. Would be interesting to find out how the arb work fares in quite bleak places.

Pulling ivy off and paperwork!!!!!!!!!
Come on lads what sort of an impression are we giving out here!
We'll have the fungi geeks and sawmillers laughing at us

Went to start the processor today and found that the chain oil was leaking out, the oil pipe had been chewed through, I took the cover off and found the other oil supply pipe too! Gud the must have been after the bio oil, little buggers! I got them changed and I have now covered them in grease, let's hope that sorts em out.
I have terrible trouble with the little buggers, they ate the little fuel bubble on my brand new stihl pole saw , they chewed the padding on my horse harness for bedding and lots more. I did as you did and put a little industrial grease on my kit and its been ok.
The guy i was working for today says they ate through the plastic fuel tank filler on his disco and it cost him £500 for a second hand replacement( whole tank). Ironically the one he got also had chew marks and was told by the supplier that its very common.

You'll not believe this thats my next job!!

I removed half a dozen small stumps today with pick and adze and i reckon it must be one of the toughest tasks i've done though quite enjoyed the challenge.
What do you guys reckon the toughest arb job is ( doesn't have to be strictly tree related ). ???

Got a chap on the door last winter by a well dressed woman who put her 110 down a big ditch right outside my house. when i went out to view it was almost lying on its side and that is no exaggeration. I asked her if she had tried reversing it out the way she went in, i felt it a bit of a stupid question as it was in a horrendous position.
The answer was no, so i got in put in low and astonishingly out it came.
I've been driving 4x4's for over 2 decades and i'm telling you no other vehicle could have done that.
That incident decided it for me.

A thread the other day about trees growing in the far north got me wondering who stands above us all on the map and how they eek out a living?
-
I would leave at telegragh pole height roughly. The only species you will get really are tawny owls and the odd buzzard or two. The buzzards outside my house hunt from them succesfully everyday , day in day out.
I think this would be a good height for the tawnies aswell to pick up the light and sound waves from the underground.

Ah interesting, i was hoping to burn it, but trading it to livery yards and turning into mulch is better than letting it rot.
still waiting to hear from british hardwoods about their sawdust stove and if it can burn green sawdust?
Chris I dont think livery yards would take it as it is of no use for bedding ( shavings yes ). Livery clients could use it to dry horses legs in winter but the sawdust would have to be dry.

Dont forget about all those gaps very drafty . I woke up one morning to find snow in the cab
You wont regret getting one though brill workhorses . Bit like Marmite you either love them or hate them . Landys
Only time will tell

Certainly nothing wrong with heating in my 90 Def. Although I've noticed the hot air still blows a bit on your left thigh even when switched to window only.

I run a 1986 110 tipper with a retro fit 200tdi and I love it . No stereo and crap heaters / noisey cab . I often think about selling her but always come to my senses . Only thing that bugs me is winter time in the landy its cold cold
cold all the time . So I bought an L200 4 work and a plant trailer .The heaters are ace and the stereo to but it will never replace the landy as a work horse .
You make good points here, one of the first things I'll be doing is lining the rear side panels . I've not experienced it yet but it must be like a block of ice in winter.

Memorable day for me was going wild swimming one very hot afternoon we got finished early.
Very special place it was too.
-
I was only joking fella. And there is nothing wrong with anyone earning a decent wedge. Love it when I'm home early as well. Not gonna lie though, not a chance in hell I'd work for or with travellers.
Theres the good the bad and the ugly in all of us sam.

Wooden ladders are very useful.
I agree.
-
Bang on with the brief wintry conditions in the north, its definetly much colder now.
-
HI mate yes land rover are very good parts are cheap the 200tdi/300 are very good but the td 5 needs a remap to getting them going but what a land rover when remap it pulls very well
jon:thumbup:
New to landies , could you divulge a bit on the td5 issues . How much does this remap cost and why ?

The unreliability of landrovers compared to other stuff is one of the biggest myths around, purported by thise whio have bought knackered ones cheap, or havent looked after them properly. The thing is that landrovers are so much more capable than any other 4x4, so they get far more abuse, so appear to be unreliable. Now a load of people will now come on here and say I am talking crap, but I have had several landrovers, and also jap stuff, and I would NEVER go back to the flimsy japanese/ ford stuff again, because it is less reliable than my current landrover, and HIDEOUSLY expensive to repair.
In my experience, people who denegrate landrovers are often thiose who couldnt afford a decent one too, or have had one bad experience. Most of the jap crap is okay because it has never really done anything tough enough to break, or even dirty it.
Get the most expensive defender you can buy, there is no such thing as a cheap one, unless you buy an already knackered one.
Brilliantly put.
I've taken the advice of the last sentence and hope it pays off.
I traded a golf tdi and a really good isuzu trooper in for the mitsi warrior and it was a massive mistake.
Wouldn't get the defender though unless planning to use it for what its built for.

Oh by the way Marsonpee , you couldn't give me a loan of that film once youve finished with it

Before you decide check out your local dealers and see who you think will provide a good service ... Very important as customer service varies enormously.
