  1. Everything always gets compared to a Landrover, there not a bad pickup turning circle is bad as said, there no worse on fuel than anything else, and with the mitsubishi power upgrade a full tank can you 400 miles.

Parts can be got easy second hand as the country's full of them, and there cheap dealers new parts are crazy prices.

Agree with you on the horrendous turning circle ( you will definetely get some funny looks from car drivers) . also on the fuel economy its surprisingly been the only positive thing about it. Land Rover is not looking too good on that front unfortunately.

  2. Please Please STOP THERE!!!!

Got a 03 Warrior just over 5 years ago and its been far and away the worst car/4x4 i have ever had the misfortune to own. Bit ironic previous post saying bodywork paper thin as it is the bodywork which is holding the chassis together. Too many problems to list.

Have just bought a 90 Defender which i cant really afford but need something to come back from the garage with a clean slate.

It can't really get any worse.

  3. I think its wing was broken. The chap holding it in the pic used to work for the RSPB. I was all for getting intouch with someone (vet, RSPB etc) but apparently tawny owls arent seen as endangered enough for the RSPB to be interested!?!?!?! I put it on the verge, drove past about an hour later an it was still there, but i doubt it survived the night TBH.

Yeah the RSPB don't take anything to do with injured birds ( despite their financial position ) Its down to small volunteer local wildlife centres, but that bird looked in a bad way .

I once rescued a Tawny owl caught up on old fishing gut which recovered but also found a short-eared owl on the road , very similar to your situation.

Unfortunately it had broken its back and had to be euthanased.

  4. If your skin is this thin, then go and work in an office. If you think you have taken some stick on here, then wait til you make a tiny error on a site and you will be in tears needing counseling.

I've said as much on a similar thread.

Guys turning up with the latest gear , fresh out of college with no experience , turning up at a big arb company . Let the fun begin !

Its not about racking up every ticket available at this stage but a gradual process of learning and confidence building.

I for one can remember my boss taking me to the side and handing me a big box of new climbing kit when i passed the course and how that felt inside.

I feel some of the new starts on here (hopefully not cartman) want to run before they can walk and don't realise what their actually missing out on.

Good luck cartman I've no doubt youll get sorted soon. :thumbup1:

  5. No no im an talking in general and not a specific case

What you are saying is right for a general member of the public finding themselves in an emergency situation. Not trained professionals.

The reason i am so emotive about this is because i nearly went down a pit shaft walking my dog less than a mile from this accident.

I reported it to the land owner immediately and fair due he got it sorted straight away but there is no way i could have ever got out of there.

  6. Its not the legal stuuf that should be considdered , its the question of could the victims condition be made worse by me attempts to help/rescue , it is only when a poor/uninformed decision is made that all the legal stuff comes into play

Her condition couldn't have got worse SHE DIED.

Uninformed decision ? By our best equipped and trained emergency service !!

  7. I got a large dumper off a bloke who had managed to run himself over with it,it had stalled on his pelvis after mushing his leg,he was pinned in a wheel rut with only his head above water.

One bystander had to be removed from the imediate scene as he was trying to prevent rescue,(told him he would be the next one needing help if he persisted),I got the help of one other bystander(we where on a roadside),& whinched the machine up & off the trapped man,& gently removed him from the water.

I asked the victim if he wanted me to 'get it off him' before I proceeded, and made sure others heard his response, which was not hard as he made it all to obvious he was in agreement.

Fire brigade arrived about 20 mins after I had him out & even though he had very nasty leg injuries the machine was off him within 4 minutes of the accident,if he had remained trapped the consequencies could have been a lot worse.

I would do it again in a heartbeat if I considdered time to be an issue to the victims chances,& sod the legal guff.:001_smile:

Thank god theres still people like you out there geoff.

The guy that designed the safety equipment that was on site is outraged that it wasn't used as well as mine rescue who were never contacted.

  8. Both animals were a little more than familiar with one another I would say!, none the less animals thru out time have made some really interesting friendships. Thanks for sharing.

    easy-lift guy

More say the owl because its an imprint i.e it has been raised from a chick by humans so thinks its a human itself.

Still a lovely little film though.

  9. Disgusting! A man slaughter charge should be on the cards for the numpties that allowed this to happen.

    Agreed

To think the womans young daughter was standing there listening to the plaintive wails of her dying mother as the emergency services just sat there really makes my blood boil.

  10. What has gone wrong is that nasty stuff called red tape , why is it still required that all applicants to the police force must be capable of swimmins arround 100 meters ??? it would appear that its not for the purposes of saving a life . good on the two children for doind what they did Real heroes :thumbup1:

    Totally agree.

It has always amazed me why you must sit an entrance exam, get a formal interview, provisional acceptance THEN your fitness test last ? to join the police force. I mean what type of people are they trying to attract?
