  1. Reading the article it mentions the Easter Rising 1916. Looking at photos from the time of the aftermath they tried with everything they had to end British rule, but 103 years on still not got rid of us. It's not enough to fire a machine gun and shout 'get out of my country' they would need to mobilize in greater numbers. Maybe Paddy Power has a wager 'odds on British being forced out of Ireland'
  2. the boffins predict the cost of batteries will keep dropping. Cutting costs is not the same as increasing the energy density of a battery - I'm guessing this will be more of a challenge
  3. I don't know if @Vespasian is right about a battery saw never going to make anything like a good 70cc felling saw. I agree that volume of petrol is a lot of energy to squeeze into a plastic case. One battery for the gob, then another for backcut etc. But Eggs is right - Vespasian will never understand a complex subject like battery technology from Youtube presenters (self appointed experts who equip themselves with jargon to lend themselves an air of authority). The only way to know the cutting edge is to read the research. Unfortunately it takes a genuine interest in the subject to motivate oneself to read research.
  4. why it's never safe to give someone a good slap (even if they needed it) - obviously no problem in self defence, but this wasn't. "On the last day that Mr Walsh was alive, Stephen Walsh and Katie Brown had attended a friend's christening. They stayed there until about 10.15pm. Mr Walsh was driving them home that evening in his Lexus. He had been drinking throughout the evening and should not have driven. Katie Brown was cross with him for doing this and had an argument with him at the time, but he insisted on driving them home. "On their way home shortly after 10pm, Mr Walsh veered into the path of Oliver Brown, who was travelling with his girlfriend, Roseann Newton. Mr Brown was driving his Vauxhall Astra van. The two vehicles collided to a minor degree." She said Mr Walsh should have stopped at the scene but had carried on home and "settled down to watch an episode of Love Island that they had recorded." Mr Brown had driven round to try and track down the person who hit him, she said, adding that when Stephen Walsh answered the door "Oliver Brown remonstrated with him at the front door and then struck Mr Walsh hard to the face knocking him to the ground." She added: "He was out cold and unconscious. The blow from Mr Brown and the impact caused by Mr Walsh's head falling to the ground resulted in fractures to his head and jaw. These led to a bleed on the brain that would tragically kill him just a few hours later." https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/oliver-brown-road-rage-attack-murder-love-island-stephen-walsh-a8875506.html
  5. One report said they felled 52 acres of trees to build the roof, each beam from a single tree. Hope they use authentic twelfth century methods to cut the timber again, no cheating
  6. At least it got to page 6 before anyone mentioned Hitler
  7. You aren't actually expecting me to read all that twaddle?
  8. that's not true - that's like saying the Catholic paedophiles couldn't help themselves
  9. I'm no fan of developers, but had to laugh at this
  10. this one has helped me - last time I think it was how to sort the wires out when I didn't realise that corners of rooms are 'safe zones' often with buried cables in the wall https://www.diynot.com/diy/
  11. some things you're supposed to keep top secret - next time they'll all know how to do it
  12. could always take a petrol generator out mowing to keep the spare battery charged
  13. that Stihl looks good - dread to think how many lawns to pay for it, probably at least two hip replacements, better off growing flowers
  14. I'd like to tap your brains Ratman - recently I had to get a new diesel pump and EGR on my Mk6 Transit, I don't want to say what I paid the garage, suffice to say its given me more impetus to learn mechanics, anyway when I got it back it sometimes flashes on the immob red led, I know these will do that to display that a fault code is logged, theres youtube vids to show how to read the fault from the flashes, what I'm asking you is as a home mechanic if you wanted to get serious what gear would you buy to do all the electronics at home I'm thinking IDS, Bosch KTS 650 etc. I know a virginised pump doesnt need diag, but I'm asking what gear could I buy to not only read , but clear codes in my Ford and would it need another box for Iveco daily, also what subscriptions and costs or not necessary? thanks
  15. maybe you saw this, worth a read if not, re flasher unit - 2 units in one, faulty and/or possible loose connectors https://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=139409
  16. MI6 and CIA agents lives were put at risk. The computer tracking technology they used was a good advantage until the hackers stole it and published it. Say if the top secret spyware was placed on a suspected ISIS computer by a CIA asset (someone undercover) when the details of this software were leaked then it was easy to find it on a computer and work out who could have installed it manually (not remotely)
  17. one of Bartlett's in there - I bet that is the famous timber faller trying to rehabilitate
  18. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/05/20/british-us-spies-risk-wikileaks-publishes-top-secret-cia-spyware/amp/?espv=1
  19. The only answer I have is my reply to Squaredy - what if they hack and release details of our secret defense projects and secret agents?
  20. If we had secret bio weapon in dev, why leak good? Some stuff kill the leakers ,agents compromised etc
  21. If a burglar broke in your house and noticed you had hydroponic grow tent and weed, should he be let off if he grasses you up. No pun?
  22. Hacking is as bad as breaking in to a building and lifting documents from a file. Give him full open circuit
  23. What about instead of a fine, forcing him to foot the cost of replanting with biggest trees possible? Apparently the financier JP Morgan paid his men to move 80 foot trees on his plot, something about blocking his neighbours light or view after a dispute iirc
  24. So Brickell, writing about pruning pear is being overly cautious, missing out perfectly good pruning time in April. Between spring and autumn I suppose spring has less pathogenic fungal spores being released
