  1. No harsher than blaze. Blaze goes like wire when taut! I bought some 11.5mm Tachyon, and while it's a good rope, and easier on the hands, it feels a lot thicker than its supposed .2mm difference.
  2. Blaze is true 11mm, pretty thin stuff. Most of the 11.5-7mm stuff feels a lot thicker than the half mil difference. I really like Velocity. It's technically 11.3 but feels more like 11. Very soft and incredibly light. Runs beautifully with 8mm cord (armour Prus is a good one) on a hitch climber or wrench.
  3. Well for those special few of us who are gifted with foresight, Dave, we would set it up before grounding the saw! Just be quiet and accept that it's cool.
  4. I used this today for good effect: Without the silly accent of course.
  5. Sounds like it would be fairly easy to accidentally operate the trigger like that... I used to do that until I elbowed the nose of the bar a few times.
  6. Don't worry Mull, I'm paid to deal with those less intelligent. If Bolam was my Dad I'd be uglier than I already am.
  7. Works on my 201t just fine mate. The Fisher Price 2511 has the attachment orientated horizontally, which puts the crab 90• the wrong way
  8. Surprise, me and Mother talk occasionally.
  9. Christ, you mean I've less than 2 years left?
  10. I like my Echo over the Stihl but it seems to be luck of the draw with some. The echo is lighter and noticeably smaller (good for us more compact people) but the Stihl running gear is better (when new), the Sugi bar and chain is a bit slower but more forgiving. All told I'd go for the Echo with the Stihl b&c. You can't lose with either, but you're a mug if you don't buy one or the other. If you're still coming up this month you can borrow the Echo for a couple of weeks.
  11. You've not got the hang of either?
  12. Really? I hate the thing. The krab is never facing the right way for an open caritool. It's fine if you chuck the saw and catch it by the krab, but for quick clipping it's a pain. I'm looking into making a bodge high clip point for my 2510. I think it'll involve araldite and a wire coat hangar. The missus keeps them in our "special drawer"
  13. Being a "habitual beer monster" is no excuse. It is in fact an asset. I make a point of getting shitfaced the evening before a big dismantle. The tree comes down bloody fast. I tried it sober once, I'll never be so irresponsible again.
  14. It won't affect the strength of it. Pop some leccy tape around it, you'll be fine.
  15. Is a RADS system for ascent really SRT though? You're going from 2:1 with DDRT to 3:1 with RADS. Not much use for access either as you'd have to be at the top to set it up.
  16. Talking shite there Ben! I'm crap with a big shot. Hand throwing, forget it! Still love SRT, except I ddrt (or freeclimb) to the top, then switch to SRT!
  17. Al, I'm sure you know the answer, as I'm sure you've seen people just chuck a bundle of line into the cube. It's a bit early for me to be baited
  18. It's all relative mate. After a couple of years I felt like I was getting the hang of it. After 3 years I looked at myself at 2 years and laughed at how crap I was, etc etc. A few years in I think I'm doing alright, until I climb with someone who humbles me. The fact that you're your own worst critic will see you well mate, just keep learning.
  19. Does winding it round a stick not give it a lot of memory? I find that unless there's debris in my cube or it's been put away badly tangles are rarely an issue. I only use it on big trees mind.
  20. Is it? Also you'd have to lay your line out on the floor prior to throwing, which is a lot of faff, and it would inevitably get snagged on a twig once thrown.
  21. It does but you need an extra drive link in the chain. They do, but only their chain fits the bar. The chain seems more robust. The kerf isn't as narrow but I haven't noticed any of these issues with it.
  22. 201 on 12", then 441 on a 20", then 660 on 30"
