new fella, if you're gonna buy used on ebay, you should go look before you bid. i've seen two of my mates buy without viewing, both were knackered. spent more than new to get one to even work! the other worked after half a day's service... you find your job yet? we are near braintree, we have stuff going on if you're interested.
  3. 1) looks better 2) everyone else has 28" or 30" so you'll be bullied if you got a weeny 20" 3) skip chain to clear out those chips 4) good size trees 5) terrain- they got spiked boots, and walk the log 6) short bar=back ache 7) can't think of 7 8) americans love sharpening chain ?
  4. parts should be available for 10 years? so if you left it too long and the carb bits go a bit curly, you'll be fine for parts on popular models for a while. which saw you thinking of mothballing?!
  5. hello Capel, or Steve if Capel's not looking. We've been wondering about the idea of an apprentice or training a younger worker for some time now. Is there someone to contact about this, either at Capel or Writtle? Many thanks.
  6. new fella, did you find some work? we might have some stuff to do, coming up soon and through the winter. you still looking? all the best.
  7. i might know someone. Palax comes with operator. Wymondam in Norfolk. Is that too far away from you? Where you at? All the best.
  8. ours is included in advertised price. so £70 a load is actually £66.67 to us... we just total our monthly sales, divide by 21 and there's your VAT- bingo.
  9. we've been pleased with botex trailer and crane. it does manage to pick up some remarkably big logs. for 12"-14" dia hardwoods 4-5m lengths it handles without struggling at all. bigger dia+lengths need a bit more care. the euro 11000 trailer and 570 crane is good. it is heavy compared to the smaller thinnings trailer/cranes, but 100hp 4wd handles it nice.
  10. excellent!! that rates as a pretty good day. we too made some fliers last week. difference is, we haven't posted them yet! ha. but they do seem to get the best response of all advertising. did you have a beer in each pub to help the nerves? we like your overflowing bag technique.
  11. mmmmn. we split and stack 1.1m then saw to truck later. awful labour intensive splitting! but hardwood we split back in may reads 19% on outside and when we cut it the middle reads 21-24%. protimeter. logs we felled this winter just gone, we've almost finished splitting it all, but whats left- the sycamore some of it's getting sooty under the bark, the birch -starting to get the white mould, the ash- ahh sooo nice. can't imagine the state of the birch and sycamore if we left it in the round another year. but the lure of the processor is very strong...
  12. eggsarascal, i guess to alot of people £150 is a lot of money (though you need a lot of £150's to get through a year...) do you get asked what the dimensions of your bags are when people enquire or are they just happy to hear the £65? and do you get orders for more than one at a time? your analysis of the problem though, i think you're right about that.
  13. hullsmillfarm, that must be it, just gotta stick neck out bit further... ask for more. some people still hang up phone with our prices! need to get more for it though, as our prices are only just keeping us ahead of all the costs involved. all the best...
  14. we're south of you a little way, near to Braintree.
