  1. hi, like all of these things, its alright until something goes wrong . . . . some where along the line you've got to decide what to do for the best. For me its the law to have an AR man so i abide by it. Also id always hope that person i am working for has got my interests and safety (along with all the other employees) at the core of what they do. Not having suitable kit or a rescue man to me is a sign of slopey shoulders and an operation i wouldnt want to be part of. As for risk assessment, we treat it as a legal hurdle to fill in or tick before getting everyone to sign and leave in the truck. the true key to it is communication and people taking a few minutes to talk things through before starting work. i do understand the pressures involved with job security etc cheers, andrew
  2. hi, i initially looked into running billets through a processor and even with various types viewed and used it would seem that the cut piece would generally fall side-ways into the splitting chamber. the cutmaster is rightly named as its so quick and like all posch stuff its well built. i would advise viewing a cutmaster at work before considering a processor. you'd be welcome to come view and have a go with mine if of interest. cheers andrew
  3. what a nob! with a bit of luck he'll do the job properly. . . . . . get 'em out the gene pool.
  4. hi the 76 is a great saw with plenty of power but a little less snappy with its power unlike the 72 and doesnt lend itself to being tossed around with as much ease. if youre looking into that range an even better saw with more grunt (same running gear as the husky) is the makita dcs7900 or 7901 (girly button option). although i love my 76 the makita is an animal and will out perform the husky. just recently picked one up for 450+ vat. cheers, andrew
  5. 25 miles in the grand scheme of things is not far to go even in something like an 8210 with a 30k box having just driven about that distance in mine which took approx 1hr 40-50 mins. they are cheap and reliable old tractors with good horsepower to boot! it has to be said that there can be an issue with speed when hauling especially as standard ag trailer tyres are not rated for speeds that a mog or fastrac will reach unless you uprate. with the tw series and bigger 10 series tractors you can buy them with 40k boxes or get on fitted which im told is not a great deal of heartache and brings you up to speed with most of the valtras anyway (which is what i plan to do with mine). faster is not always better and personally i think 50k might be asking for trouble in certain circumstances. in a tractor you keep chewing up that road and before you know it youre where you want to be and spending more doesnt buy any less mechanical problems just more expensive ones. apologies for the rant . . . cheers, Andrew
  6. hi, where abouts in hants are you i have a couple of machines and may be able to help . . . cheers andrew
  7. could possibly be alder with that bark formation. if the heartwood gradually turns peach in colour then that's it. cheers andrew
  8. there's definatley a lot of scamming going on with tractors on ebay and the farmers trader has adverts to create awarenss because it is everywhere. if it looks too good to be true it generally is mate. i wouldnt touch it personally. just my opinion cheers andrew
  9. hi mate, they can be very sketchy/snatchy things. sometimes a saw doctor can sort the problem providing the blade is not too warped. new blades are not that dear either if things turn sour and i can pass on manufacturer details for the best price. its worth trying a blade with more teeth as i have which makes the cut smoother and eliminates pretty much any snagging. hope this helps andrew
  10. and once again for the later models the n series apparently suffer with weak back ends . . . cheers drew
  11. hi there, i have the facility to winch/forwarder extract timber if of interest? i am located just off junction 6 m3 and willing to travel. cheers, andrew
