  1. What ever you buy some will hire it cause they love it and other won't cause they hate it! We have 2 tracked 7.5inch chippers, a Jenson 530 and Timberwolf 190turbo. Both cost about same money and have been equally good. Backup has been good on both. If I was replacing them tomorrow, think I would be seriously leaning towards a Forst. If I was buying to hire out I would buy a Forst. For 2 reasons The 3yr warranty Most tree surgeons seem to love them, not heard many bad words about them.
  2. I would second this. Personally I don't need to know the ins and out of Redwoods business. I do know, through experience that they offer a great product and very good back up. I did receive a letter this week setting the record straight on various rumours circulating about their business. Those responsible for the speculation and rumours, would do well to consider how they would feel if same happened to them and their business.
  3. You don't need to submit full app but should notify the LPA with 5 day notice.
  4. Depends on spec and condition. Go on autotrader and see what comparable vans are up for and go with that. If you think it's going to start to let you down and more miles will dramatically reduce its value, selling now seems sensible to me.
  5. James I got offered a 2007 23m just before I order this one and if I remember rightly it was £35k without the trailer. Decide to go for new as 21m as better features, shorter folded up length, more outreach but only 2m smaller and there is always a reason that someone's selling something (probably cause it's becoming more trouble than it's worth) Business wise over the years we have been spending a lot of money hiring them in so I took the plunge to invest. I bill it on as an extra to normal day rate but that said it will be 300+ days use before its paid for itself. The good thing we found is we have it available if required, so last week when the lads we struggling to get lines into a big Lime for the next days ivy removal job they were able to take the Mewp. Didn't earn any extra but job didn't overrun. I'm pretty positive that it's a good business move but only time will tell.
  6. Best part of £80k. Personally I prefer the set up of the 21 and 23, in comparison to the 30m. The 2 main booms gives you more flexibility to get into and around the canopy and you can generally have your drop zone well away from the base of your mewp. That said it takes a lot longer to get set up before your in position to get working, in comparison to the 30m. Regards Neil
  7. We recently brought a Teupen 21m and purpose built trailer. Only took delivery couple of weeks before Christmas but so far so good. Not cheap. Had a couple of issues but back up has been spot on. Look at a few of different machines and the Teupen seemed the best .
  8. Am I missing out on you? Had a reasonable amount of interest and interviewed several prospective candidates. Maybe you thought about applying? There's no closing date just as long as takes to find the people. Feel free to contact me Regards Neil
  9. Interviewing some prospective candidates next week. Don't miss out, send in a CV
  10. To update this thread I re wrote my job advert to reflect what I'm after and give more info to prospective employees. I posted on Arbtalk a week ago, when I looked this morning it had 1500 views, I have gained a few new followers on Instagram and 1 direct response. Hopefully more people are mulling it over and will be in touch. The advert has been posted on Arbjobs and EArborist today and I await to see what responses they generate.
  11. Spot on comment. Couldn't have put it better myself. Sounds like you have been given an golden opportunity to experiment with a different type of work method. Why not gain valuable experience and maybe some extra qualifications. Mewps in my opinion are brilliant for some jobs but you got to use them frequently to find out their advantages and limitations.
  12. It's a big deal changing jobs but this is a really good opportunity. Look forward to hearing from you.
  13. Good work Good kit Great team to work with Looking forward to hearing from you
  14. Not looking forward to going back to work? Take at look at what we are offering. All enquiries/applications will be treated as strictly confidential.
  15. Disco 3 tows really well but IMO it's the combination of vehicle and trailer you have to get right if your going to tow on the limit. I tow our new 21m Teupen MEWP with my Disco 3 which combined with the trailer is 3.5tonnes. Tows ok but you have to be on the ball and not go to fast. This is a purpose built Aluminium trailer that only weighs 500kg, cost a small fortune but compared to the trailer the hire company used to provide their MEWP its worth every penny as it tows 10 times better. In my experience any trailer that weighs more and/or is longer than the tow vehicle is not the most pleasant experience to tow but when needs must.
  16. Website should read http://www.beechwoodtreecare.co.uk Thanks for your interest Neil

  18. Some sound words here. If I'm honest it's true I don't suffer fools lightly and I do have high standards but my kit is top notch and the works decent.
  19. Well more like £100k to be honest but I would expect £55-60k of that to go on cost of sales/running costs/reinvestment etc
  20. In my opinion and after 15years of running a firm and looking at figures if your wage bill for staff on site doing the work exceeds 30% of charge out rate, then you will not be making a reasonable profit margin on your turnover. May of course be different for smaller firms where boss working on site everyday, no office or premises etc.
  21. Brilliant made me laugh out loud But so true
  22. We use plastic crates instead, second hand from Alison Handling. Cheap about £10 each I seem to remember but you had to buy a few at a time. Fairly hard wearing, stack together in the truck, fit on the Arbtrolley. Not for everyone but worth a look maybe
  23. I meant the OP but your welcome to hijack my LOLER inspection too 😃
