  1. Thought I'd bump this up a bit. Posting at 6am probably wasn't the best move!
  2. If it's a TPO or CA app why bother paying for or even using a scale plan? A sketch plan is perfectly acceptable. I think I'm right in saying that's all it asks for on the form. Or am I missing something here?
  3. We have filled 2 of the posts with 2 excellent guys but still looking for a 3rd foreman. Open to anyone who feels they fit the above descriptions. Plenty of good work on and more coming in all the time. If your passionate about trees, enjoy working to a high standard and getting plenty of job satisfaction then email or call. If you want to see what we get up to follow us on Instagram BEECHWOODTREECARE Neil
  4. Normally with the sprocket problem it's hard to start/keep running with chain break on. Take side cover, bar and chain off and see how play there is. If there is a lot take it to your local Stihl dealer and get a FOC rebuild!
  5. We had lots of problems with this. There is manufacturing problem with the sprockets. In fairness to Stihl they replaced outs under warranty even when they have been over a year old. If it's worn the crank they have replaced those too.
  6. Saw this the other day, might be the sort of thing you had in mind. Not great photo but it was small TW, the cage side was hinged to allow access to feed hopper (which isn't on it in photo). The chipper was mounted on rails it looked like it was designed so could be put in either way. Chip into be back and tip when done.
  7. In Berkshire its £2000, £1500 in Oxfordshire for the section 50 for a road closure they say it's because they have to advertise it for 3 consecutive weeks in local press but a lot cheaper if it's for emergency tree work that can't wait. You still need to have relevant traffic management tickets to get the section 50 yourself. Problem seems to be that if your a big utility company doing a major job the cost is not that great in comparison to the total cost of the works but for tree works it can be sometimes be more than the cost of the job. But that's just the way it is.
  8. A proper crown reduction imitates nature and that certainly does. IMO it's the most difficult job in Arboriculture to get right and you appear to have mastered it. I would give a job in a flash. Where are you based? Looks like you single lined it? Do you use that for all reductions?
  9. Sold Boomeco several loads recently. Nice and easy to work with. Reasonable price, lorries turned up when they said they would. Used to sell to Stobarts but it's all gone quiet with them. Guess they have enough chip from other sources.
  10. The OP has done a good job restoring the tree to its natural form. It's unlikely to grow back the same as its previous regrowth appears to have come from historic heavy topping, which does one of two things, puts tree into decline or simulates vigorous regrowth the latter in this case. Because the OP has retained a natural form and not removed too much leafarea the tree, as long as pruning cuts are correct the tree shouldn't respond as would happen with topping or pollarding. By the look of it the pruning will have made a lot of difference to both the tree and garden. Reaction growth from topping is generally from latent buds and therefore has leak attachment points, the reduction will lessen the risk of this failing, this is good for the tree and anyone who happens to be below it at the time. The density of the canopy will be reduced and therefore the garden will get more light.
  11. What happened? Did you get the job?
  12. Spoke Martin at Honeys Bros this week about buying new lids for my guys with Sena sets installed, if it's affordable it's got to be way to go. Will see what the cost is and take it from there.
  13. Interesting thread Went through the whole Subbie climber thing we my accountant a couple of years ago, when one of my long term employees as if he could go self employed and like a few on hear have said/implied the normal way it's done in our industry, hiring a guy in to work with your staff/kit during the hours you set, is not being self employed. That said every/most companies do it. There is a company local to me where pretty much the entire workforce is self employed but not really working under self employed conditions, they have been doing it that way for 20yrs. Some of there guys hate it and want to be a full time employee with all the perks that entails (all be it at the same money their on now!), some are quite happy with the arrangement. I always took the view that a lot of employers must be doing it because it's cheaper, no employers NI, no payroll costs, no PPE cost, no HR cost (you don't like you just stop using them), no training costs etc etc and its easier to find subbies than full time employees. I'm personally not comfortable with hiring Subbies for the reasons previously highlighted, about HMRC coming after employers for the tax but I still do it when I have to. I don't have a few guys who are bonafide sub contractors ie a give them whole jobs to do they provide their own kit, vehicle, fuel etc and decide how, when and with who they do the job. I don't see the situation within our industry changing unless there is a industry specific clampdown by HMRC, like they did on the construction 10 or so years ago, so as employers we have to weigh up the risks against gains and do what we think is best. As to original post your probably not self employed and the 75% thing is bollocks/rumour/urban myth. Doesn't mean you can't work for the company but just you and them are taking a risk. As someone else suggested go on their books and work self employed for others.
  14. Don't waste your £20k. Save up another £20k and buy a Carlton 7015. In the meantime sub your stump grinding out to someone who has one
  15. I'm sorry that wasn't meant to come across as a dig at you. If was my frustration at others comments in this thread, running down what I think is a good company.
  16. Check your policy unless there is an exception for someone picking the locks, you should write to your insurance company stating that you locked the van and provide a copy/link to the above. If you make your case in a polite and reasonable way I'm sure they will pay out. If they don't and take it further. Good luck
  17. Sure 1 of their competitors will post explaining how that's not good customer service! Sad state of affairs when you feel the best way to promote yourself is to try and make others look bad.
  18. Speak to scaffold firm and ask them to make something to suit
  19. Despite the second half performance I'll still consider anyone with Welsh Heritage😆
  20. I'm looking for some subbies to cover whilst I'm recruiting new foreman. Whether it's able to do couple of days or a couple of weeks Pls drop me a email, with your rates/qualifications/experience and availability. Mainly domestic work I will provide all kit you just need to rock up with climbing kit and PPE. Thanks in advance Neil
  21. Mark Your pretty good at finding electric cables with a normal bucket😃 Just buy one of those and you'll be a one stop shop for services locating
  22. They haven't been 'stripped of the Jenson products' They just aren't the sole importer into UK anymore. That's what their letter said.
