  1. Carved this little fella today to guard my trees.
  2. Hi Jim, PM sent Hi Rob, yes mate. I'll give you a ring, may get over at the weekend. Thanks Nick, yours are pretty cool, I can see why they're selling well:thumbup:
  3. Cheers ginger, I use food grade mineral oil, sold as "liquid paraffin" from chemists. It's about £1 a bottle so much cheaper than these so called butchers block oils. The boards were kiln dried I think, I used a load of off cuts from one of the millers on here.
  4. Cheers guys, got my first order last night:biggrin: That's the fastest turn around I've ever had! Best get off here and do some more:sneaky2:
  5. Did these today, hoping they'll fly out in the coming weeks:sneaky2:
  6. Looks like a couple kissing in an embrace to me, but the rot may not give you enough wood to make it happen:001_smile:
  7. Ryan I forgot to answer your question on bar makes, Cannon and Sugi Hara are probably the best, Oregon sculptor are pretty good. Stihl I've heard can be a bit hit and miss, but couldn't say as I've not tried them. All of these can be bought from one of the site sponsors:001_tt2: RobD at Chainsawbars - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists
  8. Hi, as above speak to Rob D, he'll tell you what'll fit your mounts etc. As a general rule anything over 40cc will cause excess stress on carving bars and chain. Having said that lots of carvers use 260's/ 346's with toonie bars for the finer stages of blocking out. You'll have no problem getting carving bars to fit the 200t, you'd need to get a 1/4 sprocket if you want to use a dime tip bar and carving chain. You'd have more control with a back handle though.
  9. Great news mate well done!! proof the universe reacts to a positive attitude:thumbup:
  10. Carving a giant redwood, so be sure to give me a shout
  11. good to know I'm not alone:laugh1:
  12. You guys are a great resource for numpty's like me. I have to admit with a little egg on my face that Gardenkit was on the money with a carb reassembly issue. I only went and put the metering valve back upside down:blushing: Flipped it the right way round and she's ticking over again, all be it a bit smokey:001_rolleyes: Thanks everyone for taking the time and not taking the P Cheers, Si
  13. Rich do you mean the fuel line? if so yes mate.
  14. The 010 Steve, I've had the carb apart and flushed everything but it will only run from the fuel poured direct into carb. The metering valve/diaphragm is not getting wet. It's like there's a blockage from the tank to the carb but all's been flushed out:confused1:
  15. Thanks for all the great advice guys:thumbup: In answer to the many questions, Yes oil got in the carb Fuel tank flushed fuel filter, fuel line, carb, diaphrams/valves, mesh filter have been soaked in fuel and cc as well as flushed with cc I must have got oil on the pull cord too as it is making an unusual noise, so I'll be taking a closer look today, it needs to be re tensioned any way. Will report back, Cheers, Si
  16. During a refill I found my mind wandering and as I removed the no spill spout the chain oil spout poured an arc of oil across the saw and into the fuel tank:thumbdown: At the time I wasn't certain any got in but after several attempts to start it I checked the carb and it was quite evident that it had sucked bar oil through:001_rolleyes: I've flushed the tank, cleaned the carb and diaphrams etc. It will start when fuel is poured directly into carb but then dies. I'll be changing the fuel filter but am I missing something? If I can get it running long enough it should clean it self shouldn't it??
  17. How could anyone resist taking a card now:001_smile:
  18. Finished today, should have called this thread "first stump carve". Been a challenge but enjoyed the experience:001_smile: Customer wanted a horse (house is old stables) with some druidy elements. The bench was thrown in as a last minute extra.
  19. Cheers everyone, did it today Barry:001_tongue:,you'll see it tomorrow hopefully mate.
  20. I bought one last week and it's pretty impressive. Takes off chips/shavings instead of the dust off sanding pads. Certainly worth having in the toolbox mate.
  21. Cheers Barry:001_smile: So there's woodfest wales, carve Carrbridge, any others? Westonbirt used to have sculptree is that still going?
