  1. Started two things today. First a lab vase which ill finish and reshape when i put the smaller jaws on the chuck. Then my first natural edge cherry bowl. Splits appeared 👎 and i went to deep which showed the hole from the wood worm screw hole. So ill inlay a turned disc so enough.
  2. Strops id go for double the winch minimum . I.e 1.6t (pull) winch /3.2 stropes round it up to 4t Just incase if u double back on yourself with a block. I think ive got that right lol. Not really woken up yet today. All the list you got i think is just a generic list. And the trainer will bring his own incase yours breaks etc
  3. The trainer should have some kit to use. When i did mine , our winch had its plate missing so unfit for purpose. Also sure you can 'hire' kit from the training provider. A good course to do, i enjoyed our. I also found using a saw with a 13" bar helped as it makes you doubling up your cuts
  4. K cheers bobh 👍 Still alot to do, to get rid of that end grain. But a quick 10" redwood platter
  5. The wood that i attach too. Using the wood worm screw.
  6. Great work terry. U have been busy. Now when u say scorched did u just use a blow torch. ? Cheers dan
  7. Ok? Never seen a 6.35mm drill bit though
  8. Who else uses the supernova 2 chuck? Ive noticed if i get dig in from going to hard in and maybe to fast enough that it just spins? I started with a 6mm and wouldnt fit. 8mm but span. And bought a 7mm yesterday felt a tighter fit but still span a big ? Cheers
  9. Lol yep had to do it in military and went on a course to make kit like webbing bergens etc. on tour had a little down time and made my own drop leg spare magazine holder. Still in one piece and use it for carrying my wedges and hatchet 👍
  10. Unsure bud. Unless you make a foot and drill into that
  11. Thanks bobh👍 Since ive never used a lathe before and so nothing to compare it too. I really love this lathe. The simple 5 preset speed which you can choose the rpms and with no pulleys to faff around with it its fantastic. I wanted to make another straight after the first bowl lol Another rough bowl ive done. The first is now the babys and this one is our middle (finlay's) bowl, which he decided on. Ive just gotta get used to which speeds are bestand just carry on pratacing
  12. Was gunna try the silky ones this year. Anyone tried them ?
  13. Almost filled a green waste bag just on 3 small bowls lol. 👍
  14. My third currently under way and the second spigot snapped off so will go back to that.
  15. How much for a couple of cubes spilt and delivered to Le2 area. I know next door is after some fire wood bud Cheers dan
  16. Theres many ways bud, you could go to a local training centre and just do the tickets or go to college and do the 3day a week course for the year to gain the 4basic tickets and back ground knowledge. Also if theres a firms around your area speak to them in person, and explain that youd like to gain experience within the arb industry. To start off with yourll be draging brash to the chipper maybe some hedge cutting etc. keep tour eyes and ears open. You can learn a lot from just watching the guys or girls whilst dragging. If you get in. Ask questions and be interested. Keep that mind active. You never know that done the end of the line once you've got your tickets you might work for the same firm, or they'll be able to give you a gleaming report to the potential employer. Realise that you wont be making much as a day/weekly rate with no quals, but if your not a complete fool there get you involved with the felling etc. 👍 good luck Work hard, ask questions, keep the mobile in the van, and hope you enjoy our industry
  17. Its that good i had to post it else where 😘
  18. Lol. I posted on zie wrong thread. But it still stands ..... 😜
  19. As with any job, that ive been too thats was new. Ill always do a reccie around about the same time as what i would leave on the 1st day in the job. You gave him a lot of chances and still didnt change ? As for pay. Youve already worked out how much he cleared, as well as picking him up etcetc. So just pay what hes worked. Hes asked for a fair wage so paying what hes worked is fair enough to me
  20. Thanks bob and geoff. I think ive got the wall thickness the same. It feels like it haha. Just less than .5" thick. Left the foot on to re turn at a later date. 👍. Now ive been watching videos for ages now. since doing this small turning and have a new found respect to all turners. This took about 2.5hours as i kept it small and slow, not going above 600rpms nearer the end
  21. My first rough bowl. I cut the wood 2days ago so i could practice O and its 5"x2.5"
