7. Im sure a lot of you are aware of what i went through with my last apprentice, i spent time money and effort on training him up and he left which left a real bitter taste in my mouth but a few months on i have found another lad Matty. He is very keen and is picking things up well, apprentices are just another big learning curve for us employers... I learnt alot since my first apprentice, i am now taking things a lot slower and getting matty to climb only when we have time on our hands. There are two sides to these situations : Employer - Gives a massive opportunity to a young lad or lass to gain experience on the job also coming awY with a small wage, if they were at college theyd not be getting any money...!!! We expect a little loyalty that is all. Apprentice - Can do as they please obviously, leave when they like ie after getting tickets and trained up, i fully understand everyone is free to kdo as they please but there is a trend of apprentices using apprentiships as stepping stones to gain tickets and experience. I think if matty goes the same way as the last it will leave me not wanting to offer apprentiships anymore which is an awful shame in this day n age. I would have jumped at an apprentiship when i started out but young men and women lack life experience therefore sometimes dont see a good thing when its hanging infront of them for the taking. Matty however...... So far so good. Keep up the good work pal. Hes at the yard early every morning, he is now nearly as good a sharpener as me and this is one of my main ocd's. He is getting his tree austria 3.1 next week, hes got some dmm's, wire core, soft core and ive given him a pair of spikes. He takes pride in his work and loves the uniform, always well presented and customer care is great. Sorry for prattling on but ive kinda missed it on here :-)
8.
Hello mate hows things? Great to hear from you and hope as is well in NZ

10. Skyhuck is a silly sausage
11. Hahahaha that's what everyone is thinking :thumbup::thumbup:
12. I think everyone needs to chill out lol you really make me smile at times
13. Reading some of the over concerned comments on here are laughable, your do like something to really get your teeth I to don't you lol Maybe you should put this enthusiasms into other things. Your like a terrier on a tyre swing
14. And now look who is commenting on something you know nothing about so but out
15. on a slightly lighter note: Today's Conny bashing in the rain
16. All I would like is some honesty in why he has decided to leave so I can learn from it and hopefully build on it for the future if I ever decide to take on another apprentice. Nothing more nothing less
17. Ian there is no atmosphere at work at all, and I totally agree that everybody is replaceable. I think a lot of you have picked up on this the wrong way and nit how it was intended. I was showing my concerns for his future, yes I admit I am shocked at his decission as all he ever wanted to do was climb and make the mess, we trained him up and got the best out of him. I thought he was so happy and had found his passion.
18. I would also like to invite Connor to coment on this so everybody gets the full picture
19. The reason behind my post was to hopefully show Connor that travelling into work for an hour in the morning and at night isn't really a big issue as it would be for such a short time. Also to get someoutside advice (from here) to how important a good apprenticeship is in this industry especially in the North of England due to the amount if small businesses opperating here. Granted Connor can make his own decissions, all I wanted to do before he made his final decision to leave was to ensure fir his sake he was doing the rite thing. There are so many good companies out there who could offer him the same as I have and probably more but that said after seeing his ability I would hate him to go to 'budget tree surgeons' just because they are located closer to him expecting to get the same deal. Connor is his own person and free to do as he wishes, I have always put his best interest first. I want the best for him who ever he works for and he knows that.
20. Skyhuck don't start. Hodge - Thank you for seei g it from my perspective
21. Fair enough travel of this length is a ball ache but there are other options like the train which will not only SMASH the bus travel time but I also offered to pay his train fair. After another night of sleeping on it I can't control peoples decisions therefore what will be will be. I can only try and advise to the best of my knowledge and on this occasion unfirtunatly things haven't gone the way that I would have liked. I have just lost my wife and daughter for half the week, moved house over Christmas so if I can survive this loosing Connor is just a blip in my happy sailing in the Bang Tidy. I interviewed a freelance climber last night who is very keen to be on board, I am also in dealings with a veteran of20 years in the industry who is looking to 're locate back to his old stomping ground of 'The North East'!
22. Done that Hodge, I am honestly speechless. Just shows you don't know what's round the corner
