  1. Is this still going? Geez that's shocking you bunch of saddos!
  2. Dont have a pic but its just a micro pulley attached to the small ring of the cambium saver with a crab. It's retrievable as long as your retrieval ball goes through the big ring and not the pulley. I have however had problems with the big ring twisting slightly and not sitting against the pulley correctly, this sometimes makes more friction than is comfy but it can be quickly sorted with a good shake of the rope to get the ring to sit right again. Anyone else found this?
  3. Silky, side strop, multi sling and a spare crab. The rest gets sent up as needed
  4. Mornings and evenings are the worst for the midges and the clegs are all day but never as annoying. Direct sunlight seems to keep the midges at bay although the west coast doesn't see much of that so that'll be why the midges like it do much. A good strong breeze will keep them off you as well. Just beware on a still, damp and cloudy morning or evening, they can be so plentiful you will be breathing them in!
  5. I put 2 table spoons of sugar in my bowl of 3 weetabix:blushing: I had to stop using 1 table spoon of sugar for each weetabix cos the wife was complaining that I was going through a kilo of sugar every week so now it lasts just over a week haha. I tried the ones with chocolate but wasn't impressed. I prefer my sweetening method.
  6. Lots and lots of time on the job I found to be the best teacher. You can learn a lot from the classroom but theory and practice are almost always 2 completely different things. Take your time and stay safe is the best advice I can give, wood is full of surprises and a lot of them can hurt badly. Shigo and Mattheck are 2 must reads but there are many other authors of many many books I wouldn't know where to start you off. Good luck and enjoy the best job there is IMO
  7. 3 weetabix with a mountain of sugar, then the strongest coffee I can make with the expresso machine with another mountain of sugar and as many biscuits as I can eat before the coffee goes cold. Wakes me up and sets me up for work
  8. Nice place you are moving to mate hope all goes well. As above, get prepared for midge madness with a fruity bunch of clegs thrown into the bargain! I found running away was the best option haha flame thrower works too although you soon run out of fuel but never run out of midges.
  9. Try phoning them instead of a letter that way IMO you can show better your enthusiasm. Also send emails as often as you can so they don't forget you. Good luck, you will need it unfortunately.
  10. Wow! I have worked on many fig trees while I was in Italy and never once had any problems like that. Either I have skin like a rhino or I was very lucky!
  11. I did Jorg Albertz's trees when he was playing for rangers and also Marti Pello got his trees done by yours truly. I also helped make a pine tree silver with Stevie Blair from this forum, for some crazy artist and that was on telly. Also planted thousands of trees for the duke of argyle if that counts.
  12. My pal teaches guitar and is a session jazz guitarist. I personally don't get a lot of jazz but do like a lot of it as well. I prefer funky stuff but due to my pal I have been forced into a lot of jazz. Can't say I have a favourite musician as its mostly always live when I hear it and all the classic tunes like sissy strut (if that's what it's called) etc. probably frank Zappa would be the jazziest musician I listen to regularly but he does so many different types you couldn't really put a label on him.
  13. As hazzy says just file it off
  14. I just tie a bowline choked onto the base. But I just use srt to gain access to the crown in big trees. If I was using it as a working line then I would think of maybe using something so it can be used also as a rescue method, I have seen so many different ways to do this I suppose it can be quite difficult to chose just 1 but the easiest I saw so far was a grigri used at the bottom attached to the base with an adjustable length of rope.
  15. I would suggest if you are just going up for the odd hung up branch then you should consider moving to srt. Throw bag up as high as you can fix rope to base of tree and climb up the free end. Once your where you need to be, get the branch off and straight back down. Simple, easy and quick.

I would go back tomorrow if you were paying for the flight:001_rolleyes: Great place and really loved the forests, seems you don't just have trees but trees with a whole bunch of other stuff growing on them. Think I preferred northland to the rest of the north island but also must say the tongariro crossing is a sight to behold. Once I get a new pc I will stick up my pics but for now I have to make do with the iPhone.

So that's what you were up to when you were supposed to be going to the pub! Nice trees them, I went for a walk round the forest with the biggest ones and it was very impressive (note no names cos I can't remember how to spell any of them haha) Great place to be, you guys in NZ are real lucky to be there:thumbup1:
  19. Drew your private messages are full! I got a sim card but I only got Internet access so I can't send texts or call but I guess I can recieve them... The number is 0221775836 give me a bell about going out for drinkies if your up for it.
  20. Ok that's me on the last minute panic! Running around the house wondering what I have forgotten:001_rolleyes: Taxi to the airport please!
  21. I think you need something fishy to attract a shag
  22. I had long hair since I was 16 and now I am 40 and just got it cut. Best thing I could have done to be honest. Not getting your hair caught in twigs is just so good! Still can't get used to not having to pull the ponytail out of the tshirt when I put it on though Other than getting it cut you will just have to live with helmets not fitting, I had the same problem for long enough.
