  1. Similar plantings to yours here Marko, but also growing Italian alder as windbreak, cherry (very fast growing so far) robinia, walnut, larch, lime (more for wildlife and craft), sweet chestnut and some random individual specimens here and there. I had planted some more softwoods, but most of those didn't take.
  2. Apart from what's mentioned above what would you have done? I run/ran an ms180, 650, 880 and 660, a husky 346xpg, 550xp, 365xt and 372xt. All happy on Aspen, most from new but not all. The 210 would run well and tune up OK, then after an hour it would start cutting out. I've read on several fora the 210 is a but odd and some just won't drink aspen? Not a clue why not though.
  3. I had one since '03 or so and it's still going well. I gave it to my neighbour a couple of winters ago as his ms180 was struggling with the 14" bar and I was well and truly fed up with the blimmin thing as it would not run on Aspen. went back to shop 5 times, got all new carb kit, all hoses, filter and breathers and yet it would not run well on Aspen!. Neighbour has been using it a fair bit on petrol mix and it's been faultless. (felling and cutting up firewood for two households, all sawing as he hates axes...) I wouldn't give more than £75-£100 for it though as it's been 211 for a few years already so it can't be less than 5 years old?
  4. Looks to me like the trailer is not loaded? (based on tyres, and the wheels off the ground in the first pic?) Got to be a case of user error, they must have humans working there or something:001_smile:

    Wear gloves:001_tt2: And welcome to the forum. Stihl chainsaws are not all the same, what model is it? And what have you done to try and get the clutch off (spinning it by hand?, impact driver?, big screwdriver+hammer?)
  6. I dont get it? You bought a new saw, from a dealer I presume? not a bloke down the pub? Then why on earth would you do anything other than take it back to be fixed or exchanged by said dealer when a problem arose? You fixed it yourself, but without understanding why it went wrong the first time how can you expect it not to go wrong again? I hope I'm missing something here, otherwise I'd say it's really bad form to then come on here and have a moan at Husqvarna.

    Put a turntable chipper on the back of your truck, you can fit quite a big one as fuel tank, battery, whole trailer chassis etc are not needed or can be shared with the vehicle. Have it setup so you can blow chip 360 degrees to account for when you have to back in and have trailer to the front etc. There should be enough payload left for you and all your tools. Tow a tipping chip trailer. Buy a cs100 or similar for jobs you cannot get the vehicle near. Sorted. 2.5t plus payload.

    I'm completely confused about what your question is. Are you asking if it's ok to overload your towing vehicle if you're only pulling a little trailer?

  10. The big difference isn't in the filter, rather what happens before that. On Husky saws the air spun round by the flywheel fans gets cut in half by a plastic bit. The outside will have most of the sawdust in it due to the centrifugal force. The inside (much cleaner air) gets fed to the filter.
  11. It was fact... The neighbour was right, I was working on council land. I think however the fact that what I was doing on that council land was seen as such an improvement that it was actively decided to not take any action at all. The posh 130 I'd seen driving past most days belongs to the council and is used by their environmental officer... I finished, got paid, and found out some more. The land I was working on/beside is owned by a local farmer business magnate. I was working after his son had asked me to do so. The father and a son in law had meanwhile decided to apply for PA for a large green waste and wood recycling site on that land (outgrown current premises) which caused locals to protest loudly and angrily and is what brought on the neighbours irateness. A serious No-campaign is ongoing. (NIMBY reaction, the site is ideal) The man is not generally liked a lot locally, both through envy and the fact he's not that friendly. The son I was working for had not been informed as he's a council member and such info would have caused him a conflict of interest. Anyway, only two things matter now: job finished, invoice paid.

  15. Fuel cost for my merc 814 (6l 6cyl, 8,5t permanent weight...) were scarily similar to what I get from the defender+trailer!

  17. For me the fuel/running costs are not the issue. When it works it'll be priced to earn good money. But in my current situation that would only be about half the year so low overheads is what I need. If in that half year I'd need to pay for a years worth of o-license inspections etc I'd soon be too expensive for a lot of jobs.
  18. I think I'm allowed to carry "goods associated with the activity the vehicle was intended for" not sure if that would include materials or just tools etc. I'm allowed yo carry them on the trailer though.
  19. I don't do much tree work at all and as such the cost of an o license would add a lot to my fixed overheads. If I can setup like above it won't matter much if it works hard for 6 months and then sits idle for 6more.
  20. Could it be this: A vehicle between 3500 and 7500kgs, with a huge hiab (as big as you can fit on, no payload needed) preferably with the option of a man-basket as well? You'll have spare space aplenty to fit a big chipper at the back of this truck. This vehicle would be classed as a "tower crane" hence no mot, ved £165pa, no "O license required" This vehicle can tow a trailer of up to 4000 kgs under those regs without changing ved class etc. As long as that trailer is less than 1020kgs the combination is still "O exempt". So you'd have 3000kgs payload on the trailer, massive lifting cap and a mewp/crane fed chipper wagon, but without needing an o-license:thumbup: Any issue with the above or shall I start welding?

  22. Tsurugi. I used to be all for Gomtaro's but the tsurugi is a step up and the sheath is really good too. I prefer a straight blade to a curved one.
  23. As far as I know the backplate changed design to accommodate the HD2 filter. Only older saws are different I think. If you have the HD2, that's as good as mr Stihl can do it seems:thumbdown: The foam or felty wrap thingies take a fair bit of power, more noticeably so when milling as you're cutting at max power for much longer then when felling/crosscutting etc. This is why I use tights as a pre-filter as I can swap them as often as I want, paying for a dozen stihl wraps to remedy a problem that should have been designed out of these saws is not on imo:thumbdown: HD2 after three tankfulls of crosscutting (I change it continuously when milling..)
  24. What filter has it got at the moment? The old style green ones are poo, the HD2 ones are better, but depending on the age of your saw may need a different backplate to fit properly I think? Both are not good enough imo, especially when milling. I use a piece of ladies' tights and swap that every tankfull as an extra filter.
