I can see where you're coming from but the angle I was pushing hardest was why is it one rule for one and another rule for another. In terms of qualification, training etc then I am a fan of people getting on with it. The delights of natural order and the free market economy (manifested in insurance companies and training providers) will sort out the majority of problems.

I assume you mean what will he give for them. It's not a favour kind of thing. He'll be giving money for them. I'm hoping to hear things like, "Have got some boards like that; how does £X suit your mate?"

A mate wants to do a table top with oak boards and asked me to find some for him. Wants the boards to finish to: 1600 x 205 x 40 mm 63 x 8 x 1.5 inch Needs 4 boards. Anybody got anything?

Blimey. I usually only take half a thou at a time (not chipper blades). Never seen a set of chipper blades that need sharpening. How bad do they get? How much needs to come off? I'd have thought maybe 15 thou if they're just dull but if they have chunks out then I suppose they might need as much as 50 off! That *would* take ages...

This wasn't just woodworking. Included stuff like what's best using for firewood, charcoal etc as well as stuff like young coppice poles being used for weaving and older ones being used for whatever.

There was a link on here a few weeks ago to a site/document with a quite thorough list of uses for different kinds of wood. So for example you look up sweet chestnut and it tells you what you can use inch or two coppice poles for and also what you can do with a bigger stem. Detailed properties of the wood, so good for burning, making charcoal, building, whatever. Can't find it now. Can anyone remember the link I'm talking about?

There are different kinds of pigeons but most can be destroyed/nests destroyed under the same rules that govern shooting. You've got to be doing it for the right reason, like the protection of crops, public health etc. I imagine it's all in the Wildlifeand Countryside Act.
