hey Phil there's a bunch of jobs on arbjobs for Oz... but I reckon best bet is to search the net for companies close to where your missus will be... get your sel a work visa and your away... easier if you are not quite at the prime age of 30... then things get a bit more difficult. happy choppin
  3. At a recent tree comp a pal of mine who climbs on the Helical using silverstreak as pictured above was told that silverstreak wasn't rated high enough to use as a split tail... that both ends of the cord should be tied and clipped. Can any one confirm this? Thanks
  4. sounds like it could be Pseudomonas syringae... bleeding canker have a look at Forest Research - Bleeding Canker of Horse Chestnut got pics and description. leaf issues could be Horse Chestnut Leaf-miner Cameraria ohridella... but i didn't think it was up north yet... got any pics?

  11. Hi Mike, Cheers for putting your review up for all to see. How did it compare to a hobbs and/or GRCS in your opinion?

  14. I'm throwing in a Fagus .........latifolia.....
  15. Wow.... I had the pleasure of working with rednecks in Atlanta... brings a smile to the face and a slightly sick feeling to the stomach thinking he might cut his darn self!! I did come across some one similar to this fella in the North East... but he lacked the humor of this lege. I'm off to watch lawn mower on a stick
  16. Forgot to say i think I got mine from Gustharts too same as Tom D but it was a while ago and last time I was in i don't think they had it... give Peter or Phil a bell tho 01670 789701
  17. I use bail out on tachyon... it grabs really nicely but with dirt in it feels greasy and sticky quite quickly, cleans up well tho and lasts for yonks.... bet you haven't heard that word for yonks have you?!
  18. Hello, sucks you're having a hard time of it and i don't know if i have any useful advice... so i'll try for perspective! From what you're saying it sounds like you want to get out and cut things and clean them up... if that's the case, without the tickets all that extra knowledge is unlikely to make you more employable . . . at least when compared to someone who has the prerequisite NPTCs and the like. If you are no longer going to get the tickets with the course you might think of other ways of spending your time and money. However.... i don't want to say college doesn't have its place i am a big advocate for Arbs understanding how trees grow and live and die and having a smattering of knowledge in all the other linked subjects of tree care and tree health can only help to make us more rounded and useful. i cam to Arb a bit late (26???) got talked into the same course you are on and struggled my way through... I left with good contacts to others in the industry and a few tickets and a certain foundation of knowledge.... most of my learning has been done on the job since then tho.... I did an apprenticeship in the states and worked my way up the ranks in production climbing. Not sure if all this gumpf offers you any help... there are so many ways to skin the arb training cat... Good luck finding your way:001_smile:
  19. Bump it up !
  20. hhahah I'm still grinning inanely at "bigpinus" I'm jealous... hahah is it difficult to change names on here? Have fun at the fair guys wish we could join you but house moving and exams are getting in the way this year. look fwd to meeting y'all at the next one...
  21. thats a nice spot to have a yard, not been there since i was a youth but have probably climbed some of your old mans routes. just by the by I am a free lance climber moving to penrith on Saturday... if you're ever in need of an extra fella on the team I am fast and efficient. Cheers
  22. that's the badger, trowbarrow crag as I remember... an old quarry that's slowly collapsing. have you been?
  23. sorry bro... its my accent.... i like them, I like the space they give and they hook over branches and stubs well with out snagging as much as straight gaffs do. Lots of pals have tried my spikes and found the shape of the euros too much but i reckon you get used to it.... Nice and sharp helps and I think you said yourself about the technique being a little different, or was that another post? Having said that I do use straight gaffs too... spares are about 45 quid i think. Are you going to try and get the shop to swap the gaffs over for you?
  24. i loves the Distels, mine are the Euro gaffs... think they're also called kletersteiners or schnaegaelburgers or summit!! the one complaint i have heard for (short) pole gaffs is when heading out on long branches if you haven't got a good angle to hold the spike under the branch it pops out easily... not a problem I've struggled with with the Klettthinngimes (euro gaff) but though i'd throw in what a pal passed on... Alu distels are super adjustable and for the weight and the wedge... I can't complain i love them nearly as much as the BR600 blower!!!
