Think my dad had one of those, he always used to say 'where do you think it comes from.....the money tree!' I dont think he pruned his one very well though, it never fruited!

I had to climb for 3 months and be able to follow my boss round the tree before i could even touch a top handle! I appreciated it once i got qualified! I used to go out at weekends with another guy who was training and just climb for fun, whatever we could find, not to mention hours of throwing ropes up trees without climbing! Its great to hear that you want to go and practice, so many are happy with what they do at college and think its enough! Sounds to me as if you've got the right attitude to go far mate! Good Luck

I'd winch it out preferably, cutting the butt as it comes. Failing that then get rid of the crown, by boat then rope the butt to the telehandler and drag it back, sectioning it as it come though. Unless you know a diver who doesn't mind wearing ballistics under his drysuit. He could attatch lift bags and float it out!

So, why are we one of the most heavily taxed countries in the world? Fuel wise! Won't be long til they tax timber as a fuel!

Tax! Although the price of oil is fluctuating (), why is it the uk has to be adding so much tax to fuel prices? Fair enough that oil costs more then less then more, there's good reason. But the government needs to appreciate small firms can be crippled by fuel costs, as is everyone! How much would the economy boom if duty was lifted? How many of us would say great, i've got x amount extra, i'll invest, save, have a new conservatory, car, tree sorted.......???

No worries, i said 10 mile radius coz its pretty rural in places, only takes 15 mins to do 10 mile! Realised now that i might sound a bit smug, far from it, i'm ex services (navy), not that that means anything! I just think (without sounding too far out!) that if you can help when its really needed then why not? At the end of the day its gonna cost us a bit of fuel and a couple of hours lost sleep. Not the end of the world, why charge?? We earn our money with honest work, our emegency services are underpaid so if we can assist then lets make it easier for them!

I've got a Mk1 Golf Clipper for sale, electric hood, adjustable suspension etc etc, might make a good light weight chip vehicle for another dub nut! Got an early bay too, but thats my baby! And a Passat as the family car

Just doing a 10 mile radius, local council would take forever to get here! Think we should all do our bit when needed. Mrs aint happy but you never know who needs the next ambulance or fire engine!

Winds are gusting here in Gloucs, just rang the Gloucs Police non-emergancy line, got put through to the Police contacts line, to offer my services tonight. They'll ask how much you charge, i said nothing ( not after a medal!), all i know is my wife is due to give birth in less than 3 weeks and i'd be mortified if the ambulance couldnt get here coz of a downed tree! Go for it guys!
