  1. Have plenty of turnable logs in the yard, not far from j16 m25. From massive spalted purple beech butts to oversized laburnum stems, lots of yew and robinia
  2. Longer ones for softer/thicker bark, short ones for thin bark on hardwood.
  3. What tractor are you planning to run it off? You mention about 47hp new so I'm guessing a 135, if so this should be fine to run a 42 inch blade on your saw. I don't think the gearing woe be right if run off a fergi pulley though as its a bit on the small side....
  4. This was definitely a worthwhile purchase... Nice and easy to use....
  5. 18 meters long! local wood fairies stripped all of the cord leaving nothing smaller than 20 inches at the small end...
  6. Gave the bedford and the 880 a little workout today on this little stick, had to give up on the lower half as the field was a bit too soft to get back out easily so it looks like an Alaskan job for this.. Or who has a Lucas and what's your day rate???
  7. Is that the old wooden belt driven one? Was on eBay twice, I was watching it looks good but was too far for me...
  8. Just the same principle as an arbortech cutter....
  9. Fransgard tw3500 twin drum winch, heavy well made. The last two on ebay went for about £1000 each. I bought one myself earlier in the year and cannot fault it.... Pulled out the bedford fine aswel
  10. I have done similar with a hand winch and found it worked quite well, problem with an electric winch is you only have the one speed which ca be a bit to fast whereas with the hand winch you can pull the mill through at whatever pace you require. What I did was mount it on a fence post driven in near the end of the log so it has a solid anchor point....

    Plum

Took down a largish plum in a back garden recently so the biggest we could remove the trunk was in 3-4foot sections. I put a log on the rack bench in the yard and what a lovely bit of wood the colours and ripples, the photos don't do it justice...
  12. That was a scots pine log, don't know how that got in my larch pile Here's a piece of larch that went through after. Cut a nice oak post for a specific project.
  13. Playing with a short larch log
  14. Unloaded and ready to have a go, always wanted a rack bench....
  15. Just got back from collecting it, 240 mile round trip. Time to unload and have a play
  16. Had some field maple through the bandsaw yesterday and it smelt just like cider....
  17. Think I'm spoiled for choice now, 2 Alaskans and mini mill, my forestor 900 bandsaw and now this rack bench...
  18. Yeah that's the one.
  19. I need to cancel my ebay account, can't help myself with old kit. Just bought this this morning, "might come in usefull one day" Always fancied a rack bench.
  20. I usually think robinia bark smells of cat pee....
  21. Out with a couple of the toys yesterday, 135 with the winch and the bedford to get some nice oak. leaning over a lake so winched it over starting to pull the cut lengths winch seems to work well Time to get the bedford... first attempt failed Lucky I had the winch nearby going to have to go back and fix this....
  22. Got some yesterday and taking down another either thurs or Friday. Will put it on one side if your able to collect
  23. Went out for a play this morning.
  24. Took delivery of this winch this morning, fransgard double drum. Seems to be in good order doesn't look abused or over worked. Been having a play this afternoon.
  25. This is not mine but a mates from his job today...
