  1. Defiantly not elm or lime. Probably is beech but there ar very few large beech in that area, a good few large holly though....
  2. Just taken a slab off a smaller bit to have a look. And the bark (what little is left) doesn't look much like the beech I have in the yard but looks very close to the holly log....
  3. I have picked up a decent sized log that fell over during the week which at first I assumed it to be beech, the tree has been standing dead for must be 25 to 30 years. On closer inspection the colour isn't right for beech as its too light and the only thing I can compare it to is a bit of holly from the same bit of woodland but if it is then it would be the biggest holly trunk I have ever seen... Any ideas??? These other two photos are of the holly log for comparison
  4. Looks like its a wader job then.... Going to be cold as the client wants it done next week.
  5. Hi, i have been contact acted by a local nursing home about clearing the majority of dead reed material from a lake at the rear of the home and am just gathering ideas on the best way of carrying out the work. There is no access for a long reach machine to the site and I don't particularly fancy getting too wet and cold at this time of year.... Any suggestions? I'll be back on site later to take some pictures later aswell
  6. The right type of wood isn't a concern as I'm currently installing a large forrestor bandmill so I'm going to be overrun with off cuts perfect for kindling
  7. Tidy RB, I've allways fancied one of those...
  8. One of my pups Was promised to a home before Christmas but then told that he wasn't wanted so is still looking for a good home
  9. Having sold logs for a good few years now I have a number of customers that keep asking for kindling, so not wanting to let them down I have been chopping up off cuts by hand for a couple of bags to keep them happy. I would like to offer kindling for sale properly from now on so is it best to buy a machine and process loads myself or just buy in bulk off someone on here?
  10. That belonged to a mate I do a lot of work with, it was sold middle of last year.
  11. Sorry, don't know, it was wrapped when I got it last year. Only bought it as I liked the look of it.....
  12. Vinyl wrap, looks the part. The disco pulls these heavy trailers with ease...
  13. Why make two trips when you can do it in one All loaded up from today's job
  14. Getting myself one next week, already have the rear handled version and am very impressed with its performance so far 2 1/2 months in now.... So can only imagine the top handle is going to be a very useful little tool....
  15. If yo look at the first photo at the top there is a small bandsaw on the very left of the pic, that is available to a reasonable offer. It's an sip with either 10 or 12 inch bandwheels
  16. Just starting to extend this workshop today. Will take a little while to do but I'll post more pics when it's done. Here's examples of the new toys that the extension will accommodate:
  17. What size bandsaw are you after??? I have a couple of others i dont use in another shed
  18. Thank you, my mother painted them. Here is some of her other items...

    Knobs

make quite a lot of walking sticks each year, here's a fresh batch of stick knobs/tops waiting to be fitted Also sell quite a few knobs to others stick makers all over the place....
  20. Just thought I'd share a couple of pics of my wood workshop, soon to be extended as I've acquired a couple of new toys to go in there.
  21. That was meant to say slabbed. Damn autocorrect
  22. The first log was the slowest, we took 1 slab then the edge then reset the mill from 8 to 4". The other logs went quicker as we slab bed them all at 8" then took an edge off each slab then reset the mill, having to change things only once rather than every slab 1 by 1.
  23. Another one, doesn't look as bad as the others I've posted but it was above its payload...
  24. It was an all day job but the photos only show part of the days milling. Got through 4 logs like that one getting between 14 - 17 8"x4"x8' sleepers per log.
  25. Found this online Strangely I've seen loads like this quite often....
