  1. I've got some here in North Pembs, probably only 5 or 6 bulk bags though, so not the quantity that you're after.
  2. and what's that poor little saw done to you to make you throw it on the ground quite as hard as you did at 2.54?
  3. Le nostre serie eng One of my hobbies- lusting after machinery that I will never be able to afford. If anyone fancies getting me one for next Christmas PM me and I'll send you my address.
  4. 1964 Super Dexta that we use for everything on the smallholding. Cracking Little tractors Polaris Ranger that I have in work. Tough, but at 500cc, dreadfully underpowered.
  5. I agree, split it green and you're laughing. get an old tyre on the splitting block as well, stops the logs falling off the block all the time, and absorbs energy if you miss with the axe. Leave the awkward ones for any show off mates you have; it's amazing what the words 'Bet you couldn't split that' can do...
  6. Looks like he'd be at home selling kitchen gadgets on one of the shopping channels
  7. I think it's refreshing to see a public authority that has employed someone for their experience and suitability rather than qualifications alone:001_smile:
  8. Can you run smaller engines on woodgas? I'm currently looking for a suzuki samurai 1300 for running back and forth to work, so it wouldnt be towing or anything. only seems to be stonking great v8s there.
  9. I quite agree, the only reason I've got it is because I work for a public authority that has no concept of cross qualification. If you're qualified to use a saw when the chain is near your leg, it stands to reason that you should be able to manage one that's on the end of a stick. My employers are just covering their ar$es i guess
  10. Yeah I've been pestering my employer for a long time to get me B+E, but I've stopped pestering since our technical officer suggested that the authority's 1980 Unimog be kept on our yard so that I can use that to tow without B+E. Gotta love Agri tax. Ridiculous though that I can tow a 2 ton Ifor behind a Mog quite legally, yet can't tow it behind my Van. Polesaw can be quite a handy one as well, saves having to climb sometimes.
  11. The girlfriend is in NZ until FEb so gonna do the whole Christmas thing when she gets back. Which is a good thing really, seeing as the water on the caravan has frozen completely...
  12. Another impressive little bit of kit I came across the other day was this. Might be of interest to some of you CJ Industries Garden & Estate Equipment A video of the winch working is on the page.
  13. maybe something like this only a bit bigger? would work quite nicely behind a car or pick up, or even a quad bike. LOGRITE® ATV Skidding Arch, 145238 - Ben Meadows only good for round the yard though.
  14. Mostly Hawthorn, Blackthorn and Laburnum. I save the ash, beech and sycamore for selling. Can you tell I was given hedgewood this time last year?
  15. Yeah it's a 1m3 bag, also selling netted logs for £3 a bag, but people seem to be happier getting wet softwood from the local B&Q or tescos filling station round here...
  16. You know what to do, save that to your phone and anytime someone tells you that you're too expensive, just show them that.
  17. Out of interest what's the going rate for seasoned hardwood such as ash, sycamore and beech? I'm selling it at £45 for a dumpy bag delivered within 20 miles. Too steep?
  18. OK cheers for that, will get on to it in the new year.
  19. I've just been given the job of managing an old couples woodland for them in return for me getting the firewood and any usable timber. About 20 acres in total, 10 acres of woodland planted about 10 years ago, mostly ash and hazel, and another 10 acres of neglected mixed coppice, can't have had anyone in there for about 40 years. Would there be any grants or help of any sort available for this sort of small area?
