  1. actually one was in the tree, the other logging up:sneaky2:
  2. very true, i confess to having nicked my boots twice in the tree, both times down to bad practise and being cocky as i had chainsaw boots on, very much more careful without them!
  3. Iv been climbing in a pair of Cats recently and have grown rather fond of them, sooo light compared to protector pros etc. thought it was a bit naughty but interesting to see others do similar:sneaky2:
  4. These are all crazy prices, i did my landy with a new one last year and i know it was under £100, how can a TW one be sooo much more, as others say, a rads a rad.
  5. I cant think of any other way to help the turning prob, i tend to just travel in a series of straight lines if towing, skidsteer then set of in the right direction, and so on, bit of a palavor really, also i put the arm at full reach to counteract any balancing issues. clearly it isn't really designed for towing but the ability to comes in handy nevertheless
  6. custard creams if im buying, marks and sparkes finest selection if groundies buying.
  7. Just received my blades (sorry knives) and new torx bolts from spectrum plant, very impresive service and also received a packet of fruit pastilles in the packet too, always nice!!!
  8. Thats quite a good idea, only problem i can see is that undercarriages on 2.5 tonners are only a foot of the ground so the drawbar would be rather low and it would have to be far enough away so you can still slew. Know what you mean Doobin with towing though, they,re crap at turning but Iv pulled a trailer loaded with stakes out of boggy ground with my mini and it did brilliantly as long as i went in a straight line!
  9. Brought some for mine last night, cheapest i could find was spectrum plant (online), genuine blades.
  10. I like owls, have you ever touched a barn owls head your finger just disapears, its all fluff, i think their skulls are about the size of a golf ball.
  11. I personally think its crazy that cyclists should be allowed on the same road as several tonnes of speeding metal, especially as so many of them seem to go out of their way to get in the way of said vehicles
  12. If I follow richys technique correctly then they do use that on courses, or at least in the lantra booklets
  13. Oh yes and theres always the option to tow a trailer with it using hitch on the grading blade and load it with the grab
  14. how about 2.5t digger with grab/rotator, will lift most stuff up to 750kg any bigger and u could just choker it and pull it out, the plus side is you can fit loads of other attachments to it as another way to bring in the dollar, buckets, earth augers, flail, post driver etc and itl tow behind 4x4.
  15. Surely if it spreads by vehicles anyway, felling these particular trees will have little impact? that is unless they ask me to do the job:sneaky2:
  16. Damn, my secrets out:sad:
  17. Ha good point, but to be honest a1.6t mini with expanding takes quite a bit to tip it and any one with experiance of them should know well before they actually go over. Iv dug out bits of granite weighing 1.5 ton by digging round it then digging a ramp for it to slide out of the hole and my Takeuchi did it no probs, wouldn,t want to do it everyday tho!
  18. I,v heard the new cats are rather good, I wouldn,t buy an excavator unless it had a proper glazed cab unless its occasional use. Most of the main minis manufacturers are pretty good and fairly indestructable, I have a takeuchi tb016 and to be honest if you can find one at the right price it is probably the best around at the mo, very smooth controls expanding tracks and extra long dozer blade are very useful, but most importantly most hire/utility companies use them and as such parts are plentiful and easy to get hold of and resale value is excellant. What price is it if you dont mind me asking and how many hours?
  19. I dont really see the point of theses really small chippers, I'v never used one but at 200kg plus they're are still too heavy to lift and roughly 750mm wide not much narrower than 6inch machine, Are they very cheep or something?
  20. split or sawn? maybe £2 -£2.40 perstake.
  21. i personally find the words lopping and topping a bit cowboyish for an ad, but that might be down to associations with the words if you know what i mean, discounts are a good idea as is free friendly advice etc
  22. fully insured, qualification? keep it fairly to the point though, eg 'your name'(followed by)all aspects of tree surgery and felling undertaken by fully insured and qualified arborists. chipper hire, thencontact details
  23. well, don't be too hasty!
  24. I think iv lost my temper climbing up inside a big leylandii hedge to top out more than any other tree (apart from hawthorns!) everything gets stuck on the branches, poked in the eye by dead branches, but the feeling when you finally poke your head out the top and feel free again makes it all worth it:thumbup1:
  25. don't think it will tow behind the landy though!
