  1. If your a one man band with the occasional subbie is it even necessary to have a buisness account? its not a law, and they just charge you for the privalige.
  2. Okey dokey, out of interest, whats the reasoning behind using the transfer PTO? Iv seen kits for both crankshaft and transfer box for around £600 so there doesn't seem to be much difference in price.
  3. IM going to fit a winch on my defender, don't really want an electric one so hydraulic, the question being is it best to run it of the transfer box or the crankshaft pulley? Also as a bit of a side thought would it be easy enough to have it so the PTO also runs a splitter without too much plumbing involved to switch from winch to splitter. Thanks
  4. Home Alone if your under the age of 30
  5. hate the look of the new mogs, they look like 4x4 Fiat multiplas.
  6. a load of damp willow and half rotten silver birch, all the good stuffs still seasoning.
  7. I take it most of you change you TW bearings yourself? Iv never done one before but would like to try next time they go as it cost me £600 plus to have them done last time. Is it something thats really best left to the speacialists or do you reckon its worth me trying a DIY? I would consider myself reasonably competant mechanically.
  8. id second the alpine tractor.
  9. i never know whether its a good thing to do or not, in the past i have done quite a few drops and on average i found i would get a job for every drop i did usually 75 at a time just when i had a few hours to spare, but i had a professional job done on them and i think that really helps. don't bash one up on microsoft word and print them yourself and expect to give a professional impression. oh yeah price wise it cost me £120 to have 5000 quality ones printed, so it will definiatly pay for itself. Just do a few every time you have a few mins spare after a job, 10 houses up 10 houses down or something.
  10. would a tractor and loader not do all that you ask?
  11. would a counter weight on the front help like tractors, help keep the traction spread even?
  12. awesome could you tow a timber trailer with it and load that too?
  13. World population 7 billion plus, don't think you need worry about continuation of species mmm 100k for me 50k on shiny machines 10k to take a year out and hike the world(id do it cheap), 40k nice bit of land (with planning permision would be nice so i can build myself a hobit house:thumbup1:) job done, no stress.
  14. I don't think most private punters realise quite how much chipping you could get done in a day, if a days worth of brash was laid out in a field ready to be chipped im sure they'd realise £240 wasn't a bad price.
  15. Love it, looks like a proper well made bit of kit, and 21 grand isn't too bad to be honest, looks like it will outlast us all! I use my 110 defender to to mychipper around which weighs near 1.7 t plus a load of chip, so 1.4t would be no stress.
  16. a hatter
  17. I agree a backpack is the way to go, Id sooner buy a lightly used backpack than a new handheld, soo much quicker, i got a 50cc kasawaki backpack for 75 quid of ebay, had it three years and not a spot of bother, so look around...
  18. 236 hours is nothing, especially on a tracked machine as alot of them are tracking hours. mines got over 1600.
  19. If you take precautions (temporary fencing) to make sure the horsies don't come into contact with you or the brash, and explain if needed to the lady that you are doing it for the sake of the horses how can she argue, there are no alternatives. I had to do a load of post and rail fencing with ponies in not long ago couldn't keep them from chewing the rails, did my head in. ended having to chase them back up the field every hour or so
  20. Im guessing he means the a528t @ £8500, sounds very tidy and low houred for the money, wish it was on offer before i bought my TW
  21. my hands feel like gorrilas not hairy tho, be proud of it, shows you work for a living!
  22. It all depends on whether its been done before in which case there will be several stems per tree to top out ie slower going, if its a one top wonder you should be able to fly along it, do you have to trim the sides up?
  23. Near impossible to say without any pictures? but basically work out how many feet of it you could do in a day and thus how many days needed to do 200ft, lets say for example you did 40- 50ft a day that would be four day job but probably price for an extra day just in case if its leylandii:thumbup1:
  24. well thats just it, if people want to hire just my chipper id want a fantastic amount of money, i just don't do it. but if they want operated hire then prices are more realistic as I can control what goes through and if i let a bit of chain slip through the chipper then its my bad luck
  25. Its fuuny if iwas pricing a job for example scrub clearance under my own steam id be happy with £180 all inclusive of fuel, delivery and my wage, if however someone else was using it and i wasn't in charge of the processing or work rate (ie day rate), I'd want nearer £280, thats if id even want to do it at all. actually i would, id hire one then use that so my machine doesn't get abused
