  1. Probably hoping lobbing & topping brigade don't work on them.
  2. Alder great firewood. Used for making gun powder in the last century I'm led to believe.
  3. It works out at £84 a cube most pubs want big logs so there's less timber in the bag as there's more air gaps. I would say it's sold us at least 50 cube from it. Just explain to the landlord that you don't want them mentioning money as one pub told a few people there discounted price. It's Mike/ Mick or if I'm in trouble with the Mrs Michael
  4. I've got to find Mark first Jon where shall I look first the pub?
  5. We have had to adapt to the way we sell wood a lt of our existing customers would order 50 % of what they ordered the previous year. So we started doing half cube and barrow bags they have sold really well as have .7 bags . We generate a lot of sales from passing trade. Other ways we have generated trade is 30% discount to pubs then put a box if cards by the log pile the land lord gets get burn able wood at a discount and you get somewhere to showcase your product. The other one is road side signs in areas where there is known to be wet logs been sold. Not big ones 18 by 12 inch up 8 ft on telegraph poles if you do a few in the same area people see the first then stop at the second to get number. We all so do this at busy junctions on fences with banners. In march we take them down in march put them back up in October. This generates more business than any other form of advertising we do not have a website yet. I've got no choice but to get the firewood out it's now my main income for me it's got to work
  6. Oyy that's me mum yuur talkin bout
  7. Volvo drivers Yep you guessed it audi driver
  8. I wonder if they do mail order? We had a 10 inch M&S pork pie covered in cranberries for xmas real nice meat and sweetest cranberries I've ever tasted it was lush
  9. No there all in there escort vans coming up your end with pitch forks at the ready on a witch hunt.
  10. Shaving dentists and local authority's
  11. All the beer money boys must have been nicked as it's picking up more and more out at. 7 back at 6 tires me out more delivering than processing.
  12. Better get this thread back on track. I'll take 4 loads off you stu but would prefer species mentioned in our conversation. Looks like you got a nice set up been built good luck to you. I
  13. Forestry is not my thing but TCD you just said exactly what I've been told getting 2 bays of 2.5 on the forwarder is why there is so much 2.5 firewood.
  14. There a cartoon on here somewhere of a seller and buyer of black walnut which I think is spot on. Would you have got more as firewood?
  15. Hi Frank yep two consecutive mild winter guys still selling stock from last year some are mixing it in with this years others just want rid so nice cord going at readable price.
  16. The voice of reason again Barry.
  17. Good to know
  18. The way the wind is blowing the truck might be in your front garden by the morning on its roof
  19. Now when you start ringing um up about joe blogs they will just think you have lost the plot. Pull yourself together stop winging about everything because it won't get you any where . If you did get rid of one two will pop up.
  20. As I said above I'm just going on what I here day in day out from firms in the south and across the midlands I don't no of any cord that is over 2.5 I no why it's that I'm amazed some of you forestry guys have not stated why
  21. Don't get it all the firewood I know of is been cut at 2.5one guy who supplies us has 20 crews cutting
  22. All the cutters I know cut at 2.4 or 2.5 for firewood. If I ask transport firms what they want it cut to.. Yep you guessed it 2.4. Only going from personal experience
  23. Deal with your own business not others I run a straight business as I don't want the hassle if I thought I could get away with not giving the tax man 25% of my earnings I would. Grassing , dobbing ,been a snake will get you no where. I for one am glad the cash in hand boys are there wanting a quick buck with there half cube of wet green oak for £80. When I turn up with a 1cube of ash beech and dead oak for£130asking for cheque or bacs payment it makes me look even better. Word spreads quickly that x is selling crap & y is selling the good stuff.
  24. He is not nick picking he is in the firewood game in a big way and is surprised by your figures as I was. It takes a lot to grow a firewood business in to shifting 50 cube a week let alone 100. It's big volume. I completely understand where your at and I've been there myself I had got to the point where I could not keep up with demand. So I bought a farmi and then upgraded to a Tajfun. When looking at processors just remember it's better to have one that can cut a bigger diameter. Machines I would recommend in no particular order are H p 1x37 /farmi w p36 / tajfun 400 there's jappa or palax I've never used the last two but people on here say there good. Ring the dealers and get a demo set up.
