  3. What are they called? I brought a bike chain and lock a few years back that is as far as I know is still unbreakable to a point I guess. Cost me over £200 for the chain alone I think, it's 19mm and seriously heavy duty.

  9. Chaps your certainly are having some crap luck at the moment, I certainly feel better about the speeding ticket that landed on my door mat this morning. Let's hope it improves before the end of the week and that the thieves manage to slip into their stolen kit...

Thanks guys, I can't honestly say I'd ever seen a leaf on it in 15 years. It came down a few weeks ago and a neighbour has been squireling it off for firewood. I saved a few chunks for chairs :-) The main trunk is still laying on its side needing attention at some point, it was completely rotten at the base almost half way through.

  14. An old tree fell over in our garden the other month, I've only ever seen it covered in Ivy and don't know exactly what it was underneath. So could someone Id it please, I think it looks like a sweet chestnut but I'm happy to be corrected.

  16. Thanks guys, I'll look into a treebusta, just the name makes me want one :-) Although now that I think about it, would I be able to hire out myself and a CS100...... I'm hoping to go for my CS30/31 in a few weeks. So what chances do you think I might have grounding for others in my area (Kent) using the CS100? Would I be able to make it pay for itself I wonder..
  17. I know you're right and I really do want one, but my budget is about a quarter of what the CS100 costs. I was hoping to get something half decent second hand, then put by some money until I can afford a CS100. My other current option is to get a trailer and pile the lot up rather than chip it, but I'm still trying to find myself a disused corner of land to use as a yard.... It would be right handy to win the lotto and not have to build stuff up slowly, but such is life :-)
  18. At the moment we do very little tree work and it's normally on a small scale, we currently use a domestic electric chipper. So recently I've been looking to upgrade it slightly Whilst I'd love a GM 100 I really can't afford that kind of money. So I'd like peoples opinions on small petrol chippers, ideally I'd like something with a decent feed shoot and be able to handle 3" brash, a directional output shoot would also be handy to have. Any tips other than a small fortune on a professional setup?
  19. I looked for ages on ebay for my Kombi, then slowly realised it was madness on there, I brought mine for about 600 with various attachments from my arb suppliers, if I use it for 5 years and don't manage to bend it then I think I'll get all if not more money back for it all on ebay. Madness indeed. It's certainly worrying the amount of top handle saws on there for "firewood use" as mentioned.
  20. Very tidy Fuda, could I ask how much you paid for the chipper? PM me if you like, it does look like a nice piece of kit.
  21. Can someone recommend a good "kit" to buy for sharpening by hand. I see various one's on sale and thought I'd ask if there's much difference to be found in quality etc. Thanks
  22. Sorry to hear of your loss, clearly the man left his mark and will be missed.
  23. That's food for thought, thanks Spud I shall tackle it with renewed vigour tomorrow.
  24. Bugger, I decided to have a little tinker with the 020 and my new DTi20k... it didn't go very well at all It was ticking over a little erratically bouncing about from 2100-2500, I gently played with the L side and a few blips of the throttle saw it steady out a little, but still not smooth around 2400. I then tested it flat out, it was around 9600 and I managed to get it up to 10k, then things went a little wrong. I started having trouble maintaining full throttle and it would slow and die when cutting. Clearly I'm lacking in the dark arts powers today But I hope someone will post a dummies guide to setting up. I'm thinking it's not as simple as adjusting the one screw and that one directly affects the other in some way. I've not removed the plug as yet to have a look but I suspect it's oiled up as it did seem to be smoking too much when i gave up and slid it back into the shed I tried setting things back to factory as it were, 1.5 turns out but I still had trouble starting and maintaining idle. What should the throttle screw setting be set to? It was out about 4 turns, I'm also wondering if there are any air leak issues causing the erratic idle. Any advice folks?
  25. Thanks Spud, I shall dial her in over the weekend. Would you happen to know the settings for a Dolmar 133 special, I checked the compression earlier and it was 150. Topping out at 9600, I didn't make note of the idle speed.
