    What Harness

Many thanks, from what I'm seeing I might as well save up and go for a half decent Arb harness. I'm thinking of selling a few now unused items and build up a better budget.
  2. Hi chaps, I'm looking to start tree climbing as a hobby soon, I can't really afford the type of arb harness I'd like, so I'm looking for recommendations on general climbing harnesses that would be decent for use in the tree. Whilst I won't be spending all day in it I'd still like some comfort Any advice please. I have a pal who's a tree surgeon and climber so I'd like to go out with him when I can, I certainly can't ask to borrow his kit so I'd like to start building up my own slowly and inexpensively (if there is such a thing ) Cheers
  3. Well done fella, onwards and upwards! I hope to be joining you in the game soon :-)
  4. I think I get your point duffs, don't worry about others trying to tell me how they want things done, I'm not looking for grant aid for this project so there's not much they can do. As you say a wood needs to provide an income, I have a number of other interests that I will put into action to hopefully draw my income from, although I won't be able to try those out until I've got my hands on my own land.
  5. Thanks for the replies chaps. As I'm sure you're aware, this is all new to me and it's a steep learning curve at the moment. Any advice I can get is a help. I'm working on a project at the moment to source finance for our purpose. Land purchase is a capital expense that I'd like to avoid at first, if I'm successful then I will be looking to lock up everything I can get my grubby paws on Therefore I have a small problem, I hope that some of you might be able to help and benefit yourselves along the way. I do like to spread a little happiness when I have it to spare If you have a parcel of open land, preferably an acre or more but all land will be given consideration. Then I might be in a position to plant the land for you, for free. As I've already mentioned, the aim is to recreate where possible a local woodland historically specific to your location. That's not to say we would not also consider any ideas you might have yourself regarding species variation. If you do not own suitable land that meets our criteria but know of a local community woodland creation project, then we may also be able to assist you. Drop me a pm with your details and if I can help then I will if possible. This is not going to get going in five minutes so please don't get your hopes up too much, but hopefully I'll have a fair idea of any potential early next year.
  6. Thanks for the advice guys, in case anyone else is interested I found a super useful guide on the Woodland Trust site Woodland Creation Guide The most pleasing info I picked up fairly quick is that you do not require planning permission to plant a woodland, I'm pleased about that if not a little surprised
  7. Hi guys, I'm looking into planting my own woodland for the future and would appreciate some help with the basic questions I have. I'm reading through the woodland trust site this morning but thought it might be easier to post at the same time Firstly what is the least expensive open land I could purchase for planting? I've read that I could plant up to 700 trees per acre, would this be true for a native English woodland project in Kent for instance? Could I receive funding for land purchase as well as a grant towards the cost of the trees? Should I be worried about the theft of newly planted trees on my land? Whilst I know it's hard to put a figure on it, would anyone have an idea of the cost of trees per acre? Would it be financially beneficial to invest in a polly tunnel and grow my own trees for planting? Hope you guys can give me a few pointers
  8. Interesting problem to have as the land owner I'm sure....
  9. I was just trawling the web looking at silly priced land near where I live, I noticed this little plot in Maidstone for sale. Sounds quite nice apart from the 'occupied by “adverse possession” part So what's all that about then? Squatters? or a Bodger making a last stand? Barnabys Wood
  10. Hi guys, I was looking around for a power carving chisel and I noticed a few that look like they might fit on the end of my old Dremel. Anyone know if you can get an attachment for a Dremel that turns the end into a reciprocating chisel? I'd love to have a go at a Shroom or two on a small scale
  11. I'm not normally lost for words but having read this post I'm almost there. Stunning work my friend. That's another thing I'm adding to my list of things to try before I die Think it will be a Mushroom for me though
  12. Hi folks I wonder if anyone can help. I'd like to have a little go at making a bentwood garden chair or two. I'm after the following sizes but will settle for something close. 15x 1/2" x 8' 3x 1" x 8' 2x 3" x 6' Can anyone help? I will collect from you as long as you're not too far, I'm based in north Kent Thanks.
  13. Guy's I have to say this forum is excellent, I've spent a few day's reading through the various posts in the Firewood section and enjoyed all of them. I feel I've learned a great deal in a short time and got a good deal of helpful info. It's the members that make or break a forum Better introduce myself, I'm Gavin from north Kent, rapidly heading towards 40 and rapidly heading away from my office job of 15 years I'm looking for a career change and probably a life style change if I'm honest. I've settled on the supply of Firewood and it's derivatives as a possible new business hence why I'm here trying to learn what I can. What I'm after is a steady base from which I can hopefully diversify a little as and when I can, ideally I'd like to re-invest any profit into bringing un-managed coppice back into rotation in my area. I'm also very interested in the possibility of new woodland creation for the future. I have a fair few uses for woodland that I'd like to try as and when I can afford to purchase land, but for now I'm looking to find my feet and my place to fit in. I'd really appreciate any advice you guys might want to give, good or bad
