  1. Hi guys, I got my DTI TT20 today and tested out my 020av. Can someone tell me what the settings should be at for standard. Revs out to 9500 and seems to be idling around 300. I've also checked the compression on it and it's at 170, I'd also like to know if this is acceptable. Oh and the chain spinning has now ceased thanks to a new set of clutch springs, thanks for the advice Spud Cheers guys.
  2. I had some bad news today, a friend had an accident and is hopefully in for an opp this evening. I'm not sure yet if the saw was moving at the time but I would hope not as otherwise thinks might be a lot worse. From what I know he was up a tree at the time working rather than on the ground and managed to run the saw over his arm I've worked with him and I know he's a very safe guy, so the question is obviously in my head tonight.... Jackets, I've not personally ever seen a climber wearing one to be honest. So I'd like to know from the members what their views are on them. Do the restrict the job too much in a tree? PS, the good news is that he out of hospital now and is in a cast for the next 10 weeks I shall obviously now get on the phone and rib him a little.
  3. Well I nipped into a certain high street car centre and got myself this I shall have a tinker with it tomorrow I hope. Cheers for the advice
  4. Thanks guys, I'll get looking for one :-)
  5. Hi folks, I'm sure I read a thread somewhere on here regarding what compression tester should be used on saws, but I can't find it now I need it So could someone advise me what type/brand I should be looking at. Or link me to the thread. Cheers

    Pruning cuts

Thanks chaps, although I suppose it would be better to get the Bs3998 if that's what CS41 is based on. I'll start grovelling for a loan, or I might have to sell something to fund the purchase :-)

Ouch that does look expensive, think I'll be tapping a few friends on the shoulder hoping they have a copy. Cheers

    Pruning cuts

Hi chaps, can someone point me in the right direction of a good resource regarding pruning and pruning cuts please.
  11. Damn you two have Gull's eyes:biggrin: I don't remember having to prise anything out of there so I suspect it's a piece of crappy gunk that probably fell off me or my cloth.
  12. As advised I've stripped the clutch this afternoon as the chain was still running on. There's a fair amount of crap in there although I'm no expert so tell me if I'm wrong here guys. The shoes look ok with only slight pitting, the springs didn't seem to be full of crud but I've soaked them in carb cleaner for a while and it did turn rather crap coloured. I'm going to run her up tomorrow as I don't want to upset the neighbours too much tonight If she's still running on then I'll be getting some new springs next week. Just wanted someone that know's what their on about to double check the parts I've pictured in case I'm missing something important. I couldn't find any cracks anywhere on inspection.
  13. Many thanks Spud I shall investigate. Regarding the springs, after a few decent full our runs it seemed to cure it from over running. Would this be a case of needing a good run after being left in a shed for an eternity, or should I replace those springs. Cheers.
  14. Spud I've had a successful afternoon and the 020 screamed into life after a few pulls I am a very happy man. I had a few issues with the chain still turning or running on but I think I've cured that now. I would like some advice regarding the break though. It does seem rather too hard to engage for my liking and I'd like to know if it's adjustable or serviceable. Have a nice weekend folks
  15. Cheers, whom would you recommend I go to for the parts I need? I would hope they could give me the year etc from the serial numbers.
  16. Cheers, I stripped it a little and found it to be ok diaphragm and manifold but I will go further tomorrow and check everything I can find. Do you have any idea as to the age of the saw I have, i need to get some parts as well, fuel pick up and a new gasket for the fuel tank. The PDF you posted yesterday seemed to be for engines 2005 onwards and I'm sure this one is older. Looking down the bore it all seems to be clean and there's a fair amount of compression so I'm hoping I might have found a little bargain Either way it's fun working on it, it's my first saw repair obviously
  17. Panic over I've got it apart now, it's not a very happy saw. The fuel tank had various large chunks of solidified petrol in there, and the pick up hose has an inch tear in it... Onwards we go after a damn good clean.
  18. Circlips are an engines way of getting back at you my friend Cheeky little sods they are. Anyhow, I read your post about their being a few pictures here of an 020AV but I've hurt my eyes trying to find it, so I thought I'd post a pic of the one I have in the hope you might be able to advise. And the side I'm trying to remove... I've removed all the screws I can find on both sides, including the deep one on the right side, does the left hand side case come away on its own or does it include the top section where the handle is? Cheers

Thanks guys, there was a very deep sneaky screw coming in from the other side as you mention, I found it and removed it but still can't get the damn thing apart. I'll take a look at that doc and have another go when the sun comes up

Actually chaps, cancel the previous. The saw I have is the 020AV, still having the issue getting to the carb.

I have what I suspect is a rather old 200T and it's a non starter. I've noticed there is no fuel getting through and my money is on a carb fault. I've tried to remove the left hand cover and for the life of me I can't seem to shift it. I believe I've removed all the screws and the cover is coming away towards the front but around the fuel tank area its still holding fast. I was going to persuade it with a large hammer But then I thought it might be best to seek your advice chaps:001_smile: Whilst nosing about in the fuel tank I did notice a rather large chunk of paint floating happily about inside looking for something to block so I'm hoping it's a case of blocked carb jets etc. Anyone got any tips on stripping it, or better still a link to the workshop manual.
  22. Nice tree, enjoy your day and congrats on the pole climbing.
  23. Hi all, went out yesterday for a swing about amongst the mosquitoes in the wood Really enjoyed it but to be honest I'd rather like to brush up on my childhood antics without ropes and learn how to do this safely, I don't bounce so well these days So I'm looking for any decent instructional DVD's that are available and I'd also like to know if there are any decent forums/clubs local to me in Kent. Thanks
