  4. Hi mate i have a colleague/friend who has a quality log splitter and may be able to help.he is not far from you.if you pm me i will pass on his details.cheers.
  5. These symptoms are synonymous with pseudomonus syringae (v.aesculi). Have a look at Bleeding canker of H.chestnut on forestry.gov.uk for information. perhaps look at reducing these limbs as opposed to complete removal.
  6. There wont be another one like him.ever.Sad and disappointed never to have had the chance to her him speak. His latest book on Ash is a must read.
  7. Excellent..such a satisfying way to travel.Have you plans for further trips,or have you done any others?
  8. :thumbup:Lovely picture Army bloke.I have great memories of a trip the year before last, when I cycled from Cochi in Kerala round the coast to Chennai and after a squizzy in the Andaman islands, back across the middle to Goa and then back to Kerala. One of(if not the)best things ive done.desperate to go back, so thanks for sharing your pictures.
  9. I have occasional work for sub contractors, both climbers and groundies around the suffolk norfolk borders.I am looking for reliable and hardworking people who take pride in their work.Quality work and customer care is my priority.PM me for more details or call Tom on 07805953088.
  10. martin has the kit,and is a good bloke.elite in ipswich also have the gear but are ridiculously expensive.
  11. Ahha...I have no idea, but I saw exactly the same symptoms on a tree in Essex the other day.I am also very curious...
  12. :thumbup1:Very good response.nice one:thumbup1:
  13. I have been blown away by the number of cases I have seen recently. In Norfolk ,suffolk, essex and cambridgeshire Chalara is rife. Two wonderful Norfolk Wildlife trust sites, including a wood containing some very old Ash stools are absoloutely full of it. I truly hoped that the media coverage was a flash in the pan,but Now im seeing it almost daily.gutted.
  14. I look forward to your posts, and although I am not one for responding regularly,I look at Arbtalk daily.Your posts and threads are up there with the best of them in term of information and valid opinion.Alternative views are what keeps things interesting, and not enough of the world thinks like you do. You will always be up against it for thinking like a dryad, you know that. it seems to me you have an empathy with trees that many of us dream of,and that has come from much dedication.Dont lose faith beacause of the blinkered opinions of a few or the lack of response to a post,I am sure Im one of many to realise the value of your contributions.
  15. Yes,it certainly is one of the elms.In terms of resilience,it is more likely that it simply hasnt had a visit from a beetle carrying ded spores, and as such has not been infected.it may have a visit tommorow or it may last many many years.some do. In terms of taking cuttings, have alook at the RHS website. That has a straightforward step by step guide to taking hardwood cuttings.
  16. I had this problem to the point that it died completely.I took it back to a dealer, the sent it back to husky, three weeks later it came back sorted and running sweet.Sadly they offered no explanation as to what the cause was,and after some relatively light use,is weeping again..can't offer any answers im afraid.
  17. Im currently studying for the level four dip, have got PTI course coming up and hopefully report writing too. Would dearly love to be able to afford and spend the time on other courses and seminars too.
  18. Many thanks for the response Mr.Humphries. Latent, sapwood intact it is then.
  19. Evening all.. Does anyone know what the colonisation strategy of the aformentioned fungus(the old shaggy scalycap) is?..sapwood exposed?Heartwood?..
  20. Id suggest that you ignore the Root plate rot comment. The root plate of a tree could become dysfunctional and or decayed for a plethora of reasons, and from your OP it is impossible for anyone to offer any sensible form of advice. Even with photographs,it would be speculation. Get someone who knows what they are looking at to check your trees out. Even a thorough visual tree assessment will not guarantee the discovery of all abnormalities.
  21. I would be extremely keen to join the fun if there was room for a little one?..more than willing to pay deposit and could ask others if numbers were needed?
  22. Im not to far actually..Norfolk Suffolk borders so could be in ipswich in about an hour.Im keen to take you up on your offer.I will email you over the next couple of days. Thanks!!
