  1. 2 on the same saw in same numbers of months both genuine stihl parts! It's a personal choice if you use or not just interested to see what others do.
  2. Hi, my 880 came with HD filter and I find it clogs up when milling and is difficult to unblock without breaking. I've got a 660 I also use for milling and that has the green top wire mesh filter, I have no problem with that so I'm thinking of fitting one of those to my 880.
  3. Man who has difficulty starting chainsaw with sissy plug will have no chance starting chainsaw without sissy plug. My mate couldn't start his 066 the other day so I lent him my 660, it wasn't until he started to question my parentage that I remembered I'd forgotten to tell him about the lack of sissy plug. I had to start it for him in the end. Does anyone else remove the decompression plugs? I bought a new 880 last year and plan to remove the decomp plug as soon as it's out of warrenty, I've seen to many times what happens when the thing breaks.
  4. Table looks great. For the record, every bit of Yew is poisonous and caution should be taken at all times. Having said that I always forget the face mask and spend the next few days choking, astmatic as well think I'd learn, haven't done yet after 30 years of sanding.
  5. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! They're regular clients so bill will get paid but don't want to rip them off, so was just asking for a bit of guidance.
  6. I used a 230 on my course, worked just as good as the 261's with a 15" bar. Still use it today, bought it second hand 2 years ago great little saw.
  7. What saw are you running, I use a 48" stihl bar on my 880. Bit expensive if buying separately about £300 I think
  8. Got called out to deal with a tree this morning (Sunday) that part of the crown had fallen onto a roof in high winds last night. Had to take down the whole tree as was dangerous but now I need some idea as what to charge. Do I add extra for emergency call out and working Sunday? Client will be claiming on her insurance, so any ideas would be helpful. Not used to invoicing without quoting.
  9. We use .co.uk as main address and direct .com to it also got .info which is useful for FAQ's etc.
  10. My Mates got one of those, swears by it or that could be 'at it'. I know he has difficulty starting it and after 6 pulls he gives up and reaches for my 660 although now he's started hanging his nose over my new 880.
  11. Hi Rob, just wanted to say thanks for the fantastic quick service.

  12. Use the money to buy the partner out. Partnerships are a bad idea unless you're sleeping with them and then you have to be careful!
  13. Thanks Rob I'll have that, how do we sort it, do I order through your website?

    Pat

  14. Go for the 660 but loose the sissy valve, mine popped 2 in same number of months or if you want a really big saw there's always the 880!
  15. Hi, I use it in all my saws for milling and have had no problems with it. I used to use Husqvarna oil in my 880 but it went all over the place but this oil seems much more tacky.
  16. Hi Rob, can you give me a price for a 48" alaskan inc p&p to NG21.

    Thanks,

    Pat

  17. Works fine now thanks. I cleaned out the grove, bit of paint in it and put some oil on before fitting chain then ran it slack to start with.
  18. I've had a new ripping chain for my 48" bar and 36" bar both bars are for the 880 and are. Both the bars are the same gauge 1.6mm. Here's the problem the one for the 48" runs perfectly around the bar grove but the one for the 36" jams up. I sent the saw, bar and chain back to a stihl agent and they have replaced the bar but I'm still having the same problem with the new bar. Any idea what the problem might be, the chain is an oregon ripping chain from Chains Direct.
  19. I had 2 of those break on my 660 within 2 months. After the first one I had to replace piston and pot, when the second one went I knew what the problem was and stripped down the saw straight away. I spoke to a Stihl service engineer who told me the decomp valves are a pain so I fitted a blanking plug. Just as easy to start as before and no problems, the engineer also suggested I wait until my new 880 runs out of warrenty then I should change that valve for a plug as well, that'll be interesting to start!
  20. Thanks for the info. Before I got the new saw I was concerned that anything other than a stihl wouldn't have the oil grooves on the side of the drive links to carry the oil along a large bar but I see the new 880's have a switch to increase oil flow. I've also noticed the tip of the 48" bar is not removable where as the end of the older 36" bar on my 660 is. Any thoughts?
  21. Do stihl make ripping chains or will it have to be an oregon ripping chain? I've used oregon chains in the past on my 660 but have just bought a brand new 880 and was wondering if stihl did them. Anyone got any ideas? Ta
  22. Thanks for the advice from everyone.
  23. It looks like I've got to replace the piston & cylinder on my MS660. So, do I go for a genuine set up at £280 or non genuine at £60? Would be getting it from Mister-Solutions Ltd. I know some might think it's a 'no brainer' but humour me please.
  24. You need to be careful when buying off ebay, my mate has boought a couple of duff saws over the last few years and has paid good money for them.
  25. Thanks, have just ordered one.
