  1. nice pics, gives me more of an idea wat ive got in store in june how did u do?
  2. id wanna go and work for shelby that'd b awesome
  3. at the beginning of last weeks episode 'fallout zone' the narrator says its the last in the series but there are 8 more episodes left so god knows! unless the history channel have only decided to air 13 episodes or watever it is
  4. im in benfleet in essex, bout 20 mins out of southend. how about yourself? how did you find the cs31?
  5. travelling a distance isnt a problem, obviously the shorter the distance the better but id be willin to travel bout an hour or hour and a half for work. relocating isnt really an option at the moment, only just moved into a flat that i have a 12 month contract on
  6. just sent cv's out to 19 different firms! fingers are well and truly crossed
  7. very true, anything to help the application along isnt a bad thing!
  8. ive not tried btcv but have applied for volunteer work through the essex wildlife trust, just waiting to hear back, volunteering would be a great way of getting some much needed experience! chainsaw experience is the main thing i need, the only experience ive had so far is doing the cs30 course. i have a covering letter but i may have to 'borrow' your sign off
  9. yea ive been on arbjobs, id definitely go further afield, mostly the reply i get from possible employers is that they dont have have positions for someone with my level of experience, i.e none! i cant hold it against them but its that old cache 22 of how do you get the experience if no-one will give you the opportunity to get that experience. its a disheartening process but im fortunate enough to be in a full time job in the mean time so its not a matter of not being able to eat
  10. i wouldnt dream of setting up straight out of education, ideally i want to get a job with a good local (or not so local) firm and get taught the fundamentals of the job, havent done my cs31 yet (hopefully doing it in may) so getting taught some of the basics of felling, snedding etc would be ideal, plus ive always learnt more from experienced people than from doing lessons abd tests
  11. doesnt sound like its a good time for arb workers! seeing all the vans riding around i assumed business must be good for everyone. im hoping to get into this as a career but it dont sound like a great time to move from my current job. it would explain why people aren't willing to hire new people, very understandable though.
  12. is the industry saturated with people at the moment then? i seem to see trucks from different firms all around the place, seems like theres alot of competing firms in my area (southend/basildon)
  13. i hope so, gettin abit aggravated with it at the mo. perseverance is the name of the game i guess
  14. sounds like there are some proper numpties around! i wouldnt make mistakes like that *hint hint* ;p
  15. i havent seen those posts but ill have a look now thanks! thanks for the replies, im lookin into the UA1 as we speak
  16. Wow ive been looking for arb work for ages now still with no avail! Didnt realise it was gonna be this difficult to get anywhere, ive contacted every firm that I can find on the trusty interweb, offered to do volunteer work, done my CS30, got my own PPE yet still nothing! Is there anything im doing wrong cos this is getting abit ridiculous! fortunately I have another job at the moment so its not getting life and death desperate yet but this job hunting malarky is taking its toll!!
  17. Hey guys ive been looking for work in the arb business for a while, by posting on here, contacting local (and not so local) businesses and contacting local volunteer agencies. Although I am looking for paid employment I am more than willing to offer my services on a voluntary basis as I am unable to find a business that is willing to take me on at the moment as I have no experience in the field. I hold a CS30 ticket and am hoping to complete my CS31 in April and I have all of my own PPE. I live in Benfleet so obviously something local would be ideal but I am willing to travel a reasonable distance to gain the experience I need. My current job requires me to work shifts throughout the week and my days off are different every week (i am given a rota every 2 or so weeks) so could volunteeer on my days off. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated Cheers guys Chris
  18. Yeah I have tried them, was told there were no vacancies for someone with 'my skill level'. So well put!! Cant hold it against them though, theres probably loads of people looking for work with alot me knowledge/training/qualifications than i've got!! Ill keep trying thou, built my knowledge, skill base etc!
  19. HI,

i thought there must be some work cos I always see different arb firm vans driving around the area so figured they must be busy. Always end up taking their details down if i dont pass them too quickly and contacting them when I get home. Ive tried all those places at the moment with no joy, although I keep bugging them with calls/e-mails every couple of days! good ol' persistence ;)

Thanks alot for thinking of me if you hear anything, i never realised that ppl on here were so helpful!! Im going to take some advice I was given the other day and offer my services (albeit untrained and unqualified) to local firms to get some experience or see if ill actually like the work!!

    Thanks again

    Chris

  20. cool thanks, to be honest I hadnt really considered the voluntary route to get a foot in the door, but will now be offering my services to firms on my days off!! In order to help myself more, is there any reading that people would suggest, i.e arb books about different trees, diseases, fungi etc? Im sure there are many books around but any recommended reading?
  21. very dire indeed, didnt realise there were such problems in the arb world! Ill be holding onto the job at the moment until I find something permanent, not really in a situation where I could risk not having a job at all, goddam responsibilities!! Cheers for the info thou, dont wanna run the risk of getting into something to then be made redundant straight away!!
  22. hey guys im looking for full time work in the Essex area, im currently living in Benfleet, Essex. I have no experience in the field yet but have completed the CS30 late last year and have now got enough cash to do the CS31 in April at Writtle College. Ive got all my own PPE but not a saw (an easily rectified situation though). Im currently in full time employment but in a job I despise so will gladly hand my months notice in ASAP!! Please dont hestitate to reply or PM me if you have any work available. Ive tried e-mailing and calling every firm I can find along with approaching firms that ive seen working on the way to work but as yet no-one is interested in someone with no experience (to be expected I guess!!)
  23. brilliant thanks to you both! just read thru everythin u said bout, all looks pretty straightforward. cant actually wait to do it now!
