  1. hi all ive posted here a few times before, mostly regarding employment in the arb world, unfortunately had no luck as of yet, but persistance is the name of the game!! ill be doin my cs31 in april at writtle college, hopefully steeve woodley will be teachin it again, he taught me the cs30, brilliant guy!! my question is, does anyone have any advice for the cs31? ie stuff i can read before hand etc? thanks in advance
  2. hi all ive posted a few times before regarding getting into the industry etc, ive completed my cs30 at writtle college and been lookin into the cs31 (although dont have the money at the moment). would it be beneficial to do a woodchipper course (as this costs alot less than the cs31) to give me more chance of employment and get the cs31 once ive got the money? i want the best chance of getting a job when i go to an interview! have contacted lots of firms recently, always get the same response that there are no current vacancies for someone with my (lack of) experience. would the woodchipper course stand me in any better position while on the job hunt? thanks chris
  3. I passed my CS30 today! well pleased! My instructor was Steve Woodley (awesome instructor) and the assessor was Gary Wise (great assessor, really hard to please) was a great course!!
  4. i did indeed!! that was pretty much the first thing i did!
  5. Just finished the first two days of my CS30, had sooo much info to take in but the course has been amazing so far! My instructor is Steve Woodley at Writtle College and he is phenomonal!! The knowledge that guy has is ridiculous and as a complete chainsaw virgin and being new to two-stoke engine use I didnt feel like i was being fed information that was going over my head, everything was explained until we were all confident! First use of a chainsaw today and it was epic!! Got quite smug about some of the comments that were made to my cutting ability the only thing I had trouble getting my head around was cold starting the saw, it just seemed like there were so many things you had to do! Cant wait til the assessment (more like the end of the assessment when Ive got my result), but more than that I cant wait to actually get some work in the industry and make use of the bucket loads of new knowledge and skills that I have!! Not entirely sure why I put this on here but maybe someone will enjoy readin it
  6. cool thanks for all the advice!! @rupe, sorry for the way my reply to u sounded, just readin thru it and i sounded quite arsey! not my intention! my apologies! gotta save up for the cs31 now! expwnsive this whole training malarky! all worth it thou!!
  7. anyone else got anythin they want me to tell him? im really hopeful that havin this course will give me more hope for some work! the fingers are crossed!!
  8. ok brilliant cheers! the guy teaching is steve woodley i think! has anyone done this course at writtle! im really looking forward to it, will be my very first experience of arboriculture (albeit a very small part of it)
  9. of course i know how to dress for the weather!! that wasnt really the question. what i meant was is there anythin that shouldnt be worn, i wouldnt want to wear anythin that would be deemed inapproriate, ie thick trousers or thick jacket that, combined with a chainsaw jacket or trousers would make me look like the michelin man and would cramp all my movement! havin not worn chainsaw protective stuff before i didnt know if it was lightweight or clumpy!! but now i do know!
  10. definitely dont want chaffing!! cheers geoff!
  11. yea i am doin the cross-cutting, no felling in this course though! ill go and grab a first aid kit and whistle i think!!
  12. ok cheers for the advice. What trousers would you recommend? I dont want to spend a fortune as I havent started yet and dont know if ill like the job (im sure I will though), any suggestions would be appreciated!! Looked into the stretch airs but they are expensive!!!
  13. also what is the verdict on these trousers? HUSQVARNA Chainsaw Trousers Type C All Round - Medium on eBay (end time 13-Oct-10 17:07:32 BST)
  14. hi im doing my CS30 on mon 18th Oct, and I know ill be provided with trousers and helmet. Im taking my own boots and gloves but the thing i want to know is what else is appropriate to wear on the day? I realise this may seem like a stupid thing to ask but I dont want to be under prepared for the day! Ive contacted Writtle College (where im doing the course) but wasnt really given much more info other than that they will provide chainsaw, trousers and gloves once again sorry if this is a proper stupid question but its been asked now so ill live with obligatory the sarcastic remarks that come my way Cheers Chris

Im bidding on a pair of trousers on ebay but I havent a clue as to what chanisaw jacket to get, does anyone have any recommendations/ companies to steer clear of? Obviously as a newb I havent got much knowledge of the products and I always find other peaoples reviews to be the best sort of recommendations! Thank in advance for any responses
