  1. I would sever the small ones but leave anything bigger than 2 inches to prevent rot getting into the root system. There is one which is about 3-4 inches in diametre which i will leave as it has fused to the butress. My philosophy is if it aint broke don't fix it for trees. We only fell trees as a last resort. The kretz infected Beech on the roadside has been going on for atleast 12 years according to the garage owners and the pub owners. The TO says even though it is an agressive fungus the tree has a very heatlhy crown and therefore doesn't need to come down.
  2. Its an old style 300tdi LWB chassis with the crossmembers in the right places it just has a TD5 rear cross member.
  3. Nope. Pictures were taken this morning as saw this thread and decided to look out for it in the Beech avenue.
  4. Some girdled roots on an avenue of beech trees on one of our sites. Some are easy to deal with others not so due to their size.
  5. Is it strange that i find this Slipknot song relaxing? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXEKuttVRIo&feature=BFa&list=HL1353273050]Snuff - YouTube[/ame]
  6. Some of todays shots before my camera battery ran out of puff.
  7. Anyone heard of Kansas "Turkey" Pheasants. The shoot i was at today had some massive cock birds. Two of which were too big to fly.
  8. Thats my neck of the woods. They are fantastic trees. Did you climb the one with the massive burr in the canopy?
  9. Is that 5/6% ABV cider or £5/6 per pint jon?
  10. A friend of mine just sent me this on facebook. Ha ha it looks nuts. !
  11. We are looking at some arm protectors but not for silky use. Mainly for monument clearance as there is alot of thorn, bramble, rose and gorse on some of them.
  12. No worries. If the remnants of sandy hit us you may get any idea of how destructive this bracket is.
  13. Yep. As the bracket was found inside a cavity at chest height it would be much longer for it to fail. Lime doesn'e doesnt cope well at all with any agressive fungus.
  14. Could be saveable as a reduction eventually turning into a pollard then. If there is that much of a cavity inside i wouldn't wanna climb it. Would be potentially a fun mewp or crane job.
  15. Did it bruise when you pressed the pore layer? If not it could be australe/lipense. Only way to find out is with a microscope but australe is the more agressive. What state is the canopy in?
  16. The two in the bottom pic are 6 months old (black and white) and 19 months old. The black and white one Deisel is slouching a bit as he just woke up lol.
  17. A few shots of this seasons workers once Floyd heals up fully. Will be another week or so until he is healed up enogu hto come out into the field again.
  18. If im doing chainsawing and need to wear waders, i normally just wear the chainsaw trousers inside the waders. They are only cheap and nasty waders (£20) so if i get a hole in them its no big problem. It does feel like your wearing a quilt but atleast my legs are toasty in the cold water.
  19. Todays rewarding job was to clear a bridleway which hasnt been touched for 5 years. It was a about a 2 mile walk to get to the site but luckily we could put most of the gear in the tractor bucket which saved alot of sore and aching arms. We made it wide enough for two tractor widths all the way along. There is still 50 metres to do but it is 9 ft bramble and old mans beard.
  20. The garage is a german car specialist with a 4x4 mechanic from Nissan and Land Rover. It was their first and last chassis replacement. The garage owner has said if there are any problems make a note of them and let him know. The no crank was an intermitent fault which was fine in the garage but decided to play about in a week or so from coming out of the garage. We now know what the problem is so we shall be having that done. The leaking heater hose has only just started to leak and its only tiny droplets. The powersteering fluid reservoir leak is something we have been meaning to get sorted but never got round to it.
  21. Its going in to the same garage for the 200 mile check/tighten up/problem sort. Not got a massive list but lots and lots of little things. The biggest problem is the no crank when the key is turned but can get round that with a flywire. This is the list we have so far • Wont crank. Possibly immobiliser or ignition switch related • Oil leak from power steering fluid reservoir • Radiator hose leaking at cylinder head end • Heater hose leaking • Bonnet catch is very stiff • Rattle from underneath near transferbox. Possibly a loose bolt • Drivers side door has play on the bottom and top hinge pin • Spotlights need re aligning as pointing into the sky
  22. That steering guard will become an anchor once you got towed out. We found that with our steering guard. Brilliant for skimming over ruts, not so good if the diffs become beached.
  23. Looks like a Ganoderma sp IMO. Possibly a receding lipense or australe? I'm sure some more expeirienced fungers will be along in a minute.
  24. Are they General Grabber ATR's on that? A friend of mine has some Goodyear Wranglers and will pretty much go anywhere in his lil 90. He does use the "if in doubt flat out" mantra though.
