  1. We had a homeowner ask us why we were felling the trees both immeadiately behind and across the trailway from her home. We explained her husband wanted the trees gone and the trees were old coppice stools which in their very nature are very weak. At the end of the first day she was very happy we had felled the trees. Their neighbours were horrified we had felled about 10 Ivy clad Sycamore stems and two largish but heavily leaning ash as they were "perfectly healthy trees". After the neighbours 45 minute rant we showed them the stumps and very quickly then asked us to fell the trees on the back of their property. We also have the classic "Don't you care about the trees do you? All you care about is the logs. By the way can you drop a trailer load of logs at my house in exchange for a case of beer?" You can pretty much tell what our response is.
  2. What a stunning dog. Never heard of that cross breed before either.
  3. That will be the job for Thursday when i can bung it in the pit with a torch.
  4. My colleague and i were off roading today along a new stretch of trailway to put in some new gates. We had driven along the same route atleast 3 times but on the way out we hit a soft spot on the edge of the track and the front and rear axle on the nearside took a big hit (only doing 10-15mph)from a lump of rubble. Since then the ABS light has been on but we can brake with no problems apart from it locking up on the nearside front and offside rear when the brakes are stamped on. Any ideas if we have knocked a sensor wire off?
  5. I'm on the orange juice tonight. Was funny this morning when i asked for a glass of orange juice. My brain was screaming don't drink it might be cider ha ha
  6. 1-5 - ?Clavariadelphus ligula? found growing on spruce twig. Rogers Mushrooms says it is only found in north America 6-12 -Flammulina velutipes 13-15 - Tremella mesenterica
  7. Some of last nights pictures.... Bottom picture from Bottom left clockwise :Eggsarascal, Mendiplogs aka Jon, SamArb, Marc Lewis, Teepeeat, GensetSteve.
  8. Yup got back fine. Was hanging out of my arse this morning though. Still hanging now but its getting better
  9. Although i won't be buying his album to fill Simon "codpiece" Cowell's pocket. I do like this version of impossible by James Arthur [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJqbaGloVxg&list=HL1355437643&index=1]James Arthur - Impossible - Official Single - YouTube[/ame]
  10. We are doing a 1 day CSCS course on a building site we will be working on. The card will only be valid for work on that specific site. The developer/builders are paying for it but the card will be valid for the duration the site is being built on. Apparently its the same stuff they talked to us about in the last site meeting (Hi-viz jackets/long sleeved at all times, hard hats, warning signs, etc, etc) As we are going to be parked in the "Red zone" but felling in the "Amber zone".
  11. Not a bad days work despite the ice making our arses pucker a bit on the back roads. Highlight of the day was Rodney the Robin paying us a visit when we looked at what was logged as a "stile step in need of replacement". Need 2 full stile kits, and a full sleeper bridge kit... and we are about 1/2 mile from the nearest road so may need to break out the power barrow for that job. Not a bad sunset to finish either. In the last picture you can just about see some new age romany travellers which have been set up on the common for about 3 years.
  12. Woke up to -7 in town today. Made for some nice pictures but bloody lethal roads. Doesn't help when a colleague doesn't know how to react when sliding on ice. How we avoided a few hedgerows today is anybodies guess.
  13. Our 110 is going in on wednesday to have its DIY disco immobiliser taken out. It is an intermittent fault but it is driving us up the wall. We just want to flick the kill switch turn the key and it fires up not flick the swithc turn the key and nothing happens so have to open the bonnet and basically hot wire it to get it to start. It was in last week to have a new brake line after one blocked up and a post chassis replacement tighten up. They asked if it had been off road. Was only off road twice and that was up farm tracks but you could tell depsite the clean.
  14. Some of the fungal finds today. Some common and some i have no idea what they are. 1-8 - Flammulina velutipes on a well rotted pine log 9-11 - Unknown micro fungi growing on same log 12-14 - ?Peziza? sp growing on fallen Sitka spruce log 15-17 - Heterobasidion annosum on same Sitka log 18-20 - Flammulina velutipes growing on Sycamore wound
  15. Freezing rain in Blandford at the moment. Skies are clearing too (i can see the odd start here and there). Will make for fun driving to get to the shoot in the morning.
  16. Thats what dad and i are looking at but mum wants to make a "feature" out of it. We will be going for the cheapest option possible.
  17. Dad is going to be keeping 800 quid back for a woodburner to be fitted after xmas. Just had a friend come round who works for British Gas and said its the Peizo (spelling) spark igniter which is shot. He cant touch/replace the partbecause we aren't with BG but have a friend come round tomorrow who is a sub contractor for BG to fit it for us.
  18. Found this lil Gano bracket which was described as "sterile" by the local TO last time it was checked. I took pictures another 6 months after it was surveyed and it has doubled in size. You can still see the slice i took out of the bracket just above it. It has started to form pores so will be watching this tree as it has Inonotus dryadeus at work in the base as well. The trees are in line for some some deadwooding and crown cleaning/thinning as they havent been touched for about 10 years according to the district TO. This is said tree on google maps https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=field+close+sturminster+newton&hl=en&ll=50.934552,-2.297494&spn=0.009385,0.022724&safe=off&hnear=Field+Close,+Sturminster+Newton,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=50.934479,-2.297406&panoid=pyGivURgQ1sLCDtVAPE9YA&cbp=12,171.18,,0,-13.84
  19. We have a 3 bedroom detached 1980s house with no fireplace. Mum wants on put into the gable end of the house but cant get into her head how big a job it would be to put a fire place and build a chimney. Looking at an 8Kw or maybe a 12 but want it to be warm not like an oven as having new windows put in during the new year.
  20. Just told my mum that your woodburner is going a treat john ha ha. Dad and i are looking at a 8kw woodburner and looking to spend about 800 quid plus flue and fitting. What KW is yours?
