  1. Now upto 6 severe flood warnings in the south-west. 2 in Cornwall and 4 in Devon in the Barnstaple area. No doubt the number will rise over night with this rain.
  2. I've seen a gun forget to apply the handbrake in his borrowed Range Rover HSE Autobiography. He claimed because it was in park it shouldnt have rolled backwards down the hill into the lake. Needless to say he made a rather embaressing phonecall to his wife who he had borrowed it from for the day to explain why there was a carp in the footwell and they will need to buy one from the insurance money....
  3. Warmed the barrels today in the rain. Won 3 of the 5 sweeps today (Total bag [nearest without going over], first pigeon, high bird [pigeon at 70 yards up]. Was a cracking day espeically the 2nd and 3rd drive at the wind was spot on for both.
  4. Ha ha. Not tonight. That will be xmas eve and New Years in my local. I'm on the loca CHesil. From the DBC (Dorset Brewing Company). £1 a bottle so picked up a box of 20 of them which should see me through to xmas.
  5. You'd never guess what it is doing and has been doing all day.....Are you ready????? Its been raining. The river had dropped about 2 feet over night but it is on the rise again. More rain forecast on Monday:001_rolleyes:
  6. Is that southern counties? Its a cracking spot but unfortunately may have to close thanks to a very ungreatful landowner claiming that lead is making his ground contaminated to the point that everything he puts on it will have to be destroyed.
  7. Pressure washed the truck off and put in on the ramps and couldn't see/find anything loose. Its in the workshop over xmas and new year for a new rear truckman window and to find the ABS light issue.
  8. We will be doing some hedge laying in january (14th i think) a mixture of Hazel, Field Maple and Blackthorn (Mostly Hazel though). We do a fair bit of hedgelaying on various sites. Got a site to do a load the trouble is its on a floodplain and the ground is saturated from the recent rainfall. We rain the BCS round a week ago and only did 200 metres of path before i decided against doing anymore.
  9. Nope the local Silent slasher ale. £2 a pint. Boss was paying so all good.
  10. Head is fine now mate. Only took me 2 days to clear it ha ha:lol:
  11. We use a combination of 13hp DR field and brush mower which is a big rotary mower from the USA. And a 13hp BCS flail. The DR is a brilliant bit of kit. If it is used on stony ground it tends to eat the skids as it doesnt use wheels on the front. The DR deck tilts and can be swapped for a lawn deck/finer finish deck. The rought deck cuts down to 4 inches high but can take out 1.5 inch trees (depending on engine power and deck size). The BCS cuts to about an inch high and flails the seven bells out of everything. We use a combination of T flail and Y flail hammer heads. The Y heads beat the brambles down and the T heads flail it even further but leave a neater finish. The DR is electro start but the BCS we have is recoil start. I have used both on a regular basis but the DR is readily available in the 13 hp model but the BCS you can only buy the 13hp Kohler engine model second hand or refurbed. Hope this is of help.
  12. Its chucking it down in devon from what i've heard from a mate of mine. The Dorset Stour cant take much more rain its already over the banks in a big way. BBC/met office think we may get another 60-120mm of rain in the next 24 hours. Dry sunday. Hoofing it down Monday, showers X mas day, dry boxing day then bring on the rain after. May need to sell that wood jon to fund an Arc:lol: Not overly clear pics but this is the floodplain below where we were working.. When we arrived this morning you could still see green fields. At end of play it was a sea of brown.
  13. Have a cracking xmas jon. Had our works do today and the boss was buying the drinks ha ha. Glad we drank after weilding chainsaws all day. Was rather amusing watching him felling trees doing the 3 cut method all day. A true bish bash bosh burn day.
  14. It was our xmas finish day so we had two guys come from our west team down to help out. Was a good day. Got lots done had fun whilst we did it. Had no complaints from members of the public about felling the trees. The fire became a monster when there was 6 of us loading it at once but sadly didnt get chance to get a picture of it as the boss was felling trees between me and the van. Finished loading the fire at 3 and let it burn down until 4. We wet to the many locals but our usual haunt and got the fire burning as they were having issues getting it lit.
  15. Ha ha was cleaned extremely well when it met a low roof of an old pump house in a farmyard.
  16. 2 weeks off from tomorrow. Finishing off the new year with some treemageddon, a dirty great fire followed by the pub at the end of the day... Back on the 7th.
  17. Wow didnt realise this thread had nearly 12,000 views. Ha ha i didnt think my work was that interesting to other people but it obviously is. Will be happily posting pictures of tomorrows xmas get together.
  18. Todays job. Site reccy a small bridge job. Needs two beam sections as part of the bridge is rotten. Remove side growth from the alder and replace 3 foot treads. We will also aid the flow of the river by removing some hazel coppice which has created a partial dam which we cleared slightly to allow the water to flow easier. All this will be done in the new year. Also, spot whats missing from the back of our Ford Ranger.
  19. Thats where i remembered it ha ha. The name rang a bell but couldnt find the post/thread.
  20. I remember there was a post about a log merchant that was flooded out on the levels. Just found this link on the BBC of the damage left. Is he a member on here? BBC News - Flood-hit firm's struggle to recover
  21. Chucking it down with heavy rain/drizzle mix. I see the A361 Burrowridge road is now re-opened on the levels. I wonder how long it will be before it closed for another month because of flooding.
  22. Just found out a good friend of my cousins and mine lost his life last night. He was a local legend on the motocross circuit. Yet another potential MX racer lost. Facebook tributes paid to Liam Taylor from Chard following fatal traffic accident in Ilminster (From Somerset County Gazette)
