  1. Anyone seen any Summer migrants yet? As i have seen my first Sand Martin this morning. Either he was blown well off course or he is very very early.
  2. I see where you coming from Dean. I think it was one of my Ale induced micro rants.
  3. I can't understand why people are constantly sniping at eachother (pardon the pun) about spelling mistakes. All Mark Lewis is asking for is some potential Deer Stalking land. Not for certain individuals to pick him apart for grammatical errors. No wonder some of the new members fell unwelcome.
  4. All that turd needed was some carrot pieces or dog hair lol
  5. 2 in 1 with bench mounted vice and same again when out in field with a bar clamp on piece of wood or a stump
  6. Some pics from today. Dog Violets are coming into bloom, Pics of a large fruit tree (possibly Green/goldgage.)
  7. How big you looking as got some lumps (12 inchish diametre) of Beech if your interested?
  8. We run BFG A/T all round on our Ford Rangers and fins they only last for about 10-15,000 miles. They are used for towing a fair bit which may have something to do with it but even so it isnt brilliant. Looking at the remould route (Insa Turbo Ranger or Traction Tracks) to save money but not necessarily look for the cheapest. The I/T Rangers are BFG A/T remould but about 1/4 the price. The Traction tracks are an A/T M/T hybrid. You have the quietness of the A/T with the agressiveness of the M/T. They are about 80 quid a tyre depending on size but they last just as well as the big brands.
  9. I can just about make out the classic black bubbly crust of Kretschmaria deusta. Am i correct?
  10. Its belting down at the moment. Been on and off all day and the river is hovering around flood alert/warning levels. Speaking to a friend of mine who works for the EA the rivers are reacting fast to what ever rain we get. Met office forecast more heavy rain to come overnight.
  11. No worries. We are trying different materials and comparing costs. Next plan is to try some anti slip stuff that we paint/roll onto anything from a very well known builders merchants. One of our apprentices is on first name terms with alot of the guys in there and is going to see if we can get a massive order up of everything from timber to screws and anything else we need or want. We get VAT off everything anyway but could also get another 10-20% off what we buy.
  12. Near Petton or between Wivey (Wiveliscombe) and Waterrow. https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Skilgate&hl=en&ll=51.037643,-3.440866&spn=0.01808,0.049567&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=8.701745,25.378418&oq=skilgate&t=h&hnear=Skilgate,+Somerset,+United+Kingdom&z=15
  13. Currently upto 5 flood warnings in the Southwest and from what i've heard from my cousins near Skilgate in Somerset its coming down very very heavy. I can see Tarr Steps washing away again and Dulverton bridge being damaged by the water. Our local river is rising at the rate of about an inch/hour.
  14. Dropped off a petrol pressure washer which we are borrowing off our rights of way colleagues who failed to mention its been sat around for a year with a heavily leaking carb. The O ring for the sediment bowl has gone walkabout and someone helped themselves to the drain plug which isn't very helpful. Funny part was we went there to drop off the pressure washer and the apprentice pretty much bought a VW Beetle which was sat in a quiet corner under a tarp.
  15. I was chatting to one of the contractors doing surfacing on the trailway and they said that even with a van with banksman, signs closing the footpath and barriers blocking off the paths people still walked down and upto the machinery even though people were told to turn around. When we are doing tree felling we put signs up at either end and block it off if there is a suitable diversion route. Even then they decide to rip down the red and white barrier tape and attempt to walk through the site even with a van forcing them up the muddy slopes.
  16. Some pics from this evenings soggy dog walk. Thee tarmac had only been down 3 hours and some dirty scroat decided not to pick up their dog turd:thumbdown: Its infuriating that we get a nice surface put down and the only thing people think they can do is let their dog crap on the surface and not pick it up despite being about 60 metres from a bin.
  17. One 16ft field gate + one 8ftx6ft Wessex trailer =
  18. Anti-Slip Flat Sheets 4mm GRP (Fibreglass) This is the stuff we use. I'm not sure if we buy it from them or through another supplier.
  19. I find a felling bar placed between the springs and pressure applied downward on the felling bar lifts the springs and thus the rollers sufficiently for someone to wiggle the piece of wood loose. We have done it a few times on our TW150. Who ever is on the felling bar has to make sure that it isnt slipping before the person in the feed hopper can remove the offending piece of wood. The same applies for if a piece of wood gets stuck in the slider rails and stops the rollers dropping to their lowest. Time to wait for HSE to knock on our door tomorrow morning no doubt. And yes we have done it on the Jensen as well.
  20. Cheers. Will be getting more pics tomorrow and at the weekend of the stretch of trailway upto Durweston/A350 tunnel. Its incredible how quickly its changed in the past 6 weeks.
  21. Just a bit. I was only just warm to the touch but steam was coming off it when it was drizzling.
  22. Installed a gate complete with corral bordering two farmers fields. The landowner was happy for us to do the work but one of the tennant farmers was really unhappy about its construction and the fact the corral is made out of round posts and not square ones. Also some pictures of the tarmac on the Blandford stretch of trailway. It was still warm when i was walking on it.
  23. Very thick fog this morning (less than 5 metre visibilty at one point). That soon cleared off but was back within an hour but down to 15 metres. Was all gone by 2 this afternoon but it wasn't far away.
  24. Found a poo bag in one of our main entrances to our flagship site. With two bins 30 and 35 metres away yet they decided to leave it on the pinch point. On a lighter note. Got some big machinery down a local stretch of trailway ready for tarmaccing.
