  1. That's a serious chunk of ivy! What'll you make with it? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Came across the associated webs last week. Not sure how common they are, perhaps just not noticed them before... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. What level are you studying? The lumen is the 'space' in the zylem which conducts fluids etc to the shoots/leaves. I'm sure no one wants to give you an answer! Think along the lines of fungi take advantage of aerated/drought stressed volumes of wood, for example. Or picture yourself as a leaf sucking fluids and nutrients through a small, medium or large diameter straw/tube... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app

    Home brewing

Hi all, I just got a Woodfordes Wherry home brew kit. It's something I've been wanting to try for years now. Ultimately from scratch, but this seems a good place to start. Seems my grandmother in law has some of her husbands old brewing gear which I'm welcome to if I get into it, which could be handy. So who here home brews, what, how, any tips etc? 6. Hmm, not lime chlorosis from cement then. Could be heat damage, I guess this years leaves will be ok till it gets hot if that's the case. Still, the rooting area looks very barren (especially if it is astro turf). If all fallen leaves etc are cleared over a number of years it can't be helping the rhizosphere and available nutrients... 7. Maybe. Perhaps soil was graded and a base laid on exposed roots even. I believe, and may be wrong, that the cement alters the pH of the soil, which could cause problems... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Shed looks large and not that old- concrete base? Preventing water getting to soil below maybe, looks like it has a gutter so maybe going into a butt rathet than running off. And is that astro turf under the laurels? If so how old, and what ground prep was done for it? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. Yes, better than £80 ish online... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. A very kind offer, but I've committed to buying this one and want it to have a permanent spot on the bookshelf! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. No idea who was selling it, but I'll certainly enjoy it been after this since getting it on loan from hams book club Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. Cheers for the heads up btggaz. £56 + 3 p&p, I can live with that Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Whole family had this over the last 4 days. Wow! Bloody horrific. First the 3 yr old, then my wife, 1 yr old and me. Never again, I hope... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. Hi all, posting on behalf of my brother here... Bit of background first: He's back in Colchester after leaving four years ago to become a scuba diving instructor in Thailand. Prior to leaving he worked as a self employed welder/fabricator all over London and Essex area. He's back in the area now until he goes back to diving around October time and is looking for any work anyone can offer, preferably in or around Colchester. So if you have any jobs big or small (or know of any) please pm me and I'll pass on names and numbers. Thanks for reading, Kevin. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app

  16. Mulch away see a thread on here with a title something like 'to mulch or not to mulch?' for inspiration and BS3998 for more details... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app

    Jokes???

It's ridiculous to claim that video games influence children. If Pacman had affected kids born in the eighties, they'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to monotonous electronic music. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. Sounds quite possible any number of things could have been leant against the stem at one point or another. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Are you suggesting that the tree smelled soil?! I'm not convinced, any other ideas? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. Think I'd be going back to them with it! That's not on... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  23. Any care to explain this adventitious rooting on a woodland boundary lime tree? I think there has been a slight lowering of soil on the left side of the pics, but only a few inches, if anything. I might expect to see this if a tree shelter with leaf litter in it is left on too long, but I really don't think this self sown tree with its branches growing through a mesh fence has ever seen one! Odd... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. Great idea! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. Nice little clearing for a guerilla gardener of the spaced out hippy variety? What would I do? One or two plants, leave it. We were all young and stupid once! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
