  1. Ok, first guess would be Phellinus pini, second would be a wild card - Gleophyllum sp?
  2. I have an incling, but would like to check before posting (isn't that what this thread was intended to prompt?), good one Au-u...
  3. For what it's worth, I've done a couple of trees risk assessment jobs around Epsom over the last one or two years, it is a 4hr round trip for me (from north Essex) so travel adds a fair bit on though. I charged in the region of £350-450, depending on the write up time after inspection/level of detail, I'd imagine it being a nice easy half day job for someone local could make it more reasonable. Hope this helps...
  4. Look like poplar from here...
  5. If it's the same room as the last talk/training event I went to was, 60 would be a tight squeeze indeed!
  6. I'm interested. Even if I could go, with a reserve list like that why try!?
  7. I'm trying to make arrangements to be able to go! I can't very well book a place until I'm sure I can be there, though I hope like mad there's still places available when I know I can make it...
  8. There are several methods of putting a monetary value on amenity trees, I think the three best known are the CTLA, CAVAT and Helliwell systems. As for court cases, I'm pretty certain there have been a few, but I couldn't say who...

    TRAQ to replace QTRA

Cheers for the reply Paul. That thread was heavy going when it was active, I don't know if I dare open the link right now! Am I right in thinking TRAQ was/is used at Kew, and seen as reasonable in the case of the recent death there? Or am I getting confused? In any case I can't make experts question time, however, I'd be open to having TRAQ rather than QTRA as a competency. I don't know the ins and outs of either but QTRA seems overly precise for something as subjective as tree hazard perception, not to mention pricey with license fees on going. As an aside I did look into going on a QTRA course but decided against it; most people I spoke to who'd done the training said it was a great learning experience, but only one out of many said they use it for tree safety surveys and would renew their license for it; which somewhat deterred me. On the other hand TRAQ seems (from an outsiders perspective) more user friendly, and it comes with a '5yr license' following successful completion of the course and assessment, which is nice...
  14. Not sure how far you'd travel (or far they deliver) but Cox Landscapes at Plains Farm on Ipswich Rd, Colchester are very good. Happy to advise on materials and methods too. A Google search brings up their website and price list
  15. And a lovely old thing too and pics of the other side?

    TRAQ to replace QTRA

I see in the agm agenda there is a vote to replace the QTRA competency with an ISA TRAQ one. May I ask why? Also, has anyone done the TRAQ training, if so what did you think? Cheers all...
  17. Cheers Crawley P, another avenue to look into...
  18. I guessed that, it was a poor attempt at a joke!
  19. Looks lovely, but how did you explain the broken fork?
  20. Very nice, the faceless death figure really appeals...
  21. I did 'harvest' a few twigs. I've never tried it before though, any tips? My wife does have some blue powder rooting compound somewhere, but I don't know what to do with it! Cheers...
  22. What level are you studying? It could have quite a bearing on what details you need...
