  1. What if the Tree survived the last wind due to being sheltered by others, but actually was root shot which you may not be aware of ?
  2. If it has been standing dead for that long, then I would certainly ascertain (through VTA, hammer, decay detection equipment) what if any decay fungi were active at the base and/or main unions. Then make the judgement on the type of dismantle. MEWP, Crane, Rope Access in that order. But then I'm a Southern LA H&S Jobsworth, who probably should find a few crochet forum members to cross needles with. .
  3. The sheer force of natures unstopable might, constantly fascinates me. Ash at the base of Malham Cove.
  4. Came across this beauty whilst meandering along the lanes of Yorkshire (just above Settle) recently. Think it's possibly Huntingdon (x hollandica 'vegeta') as opposed to Wych (glabra), but not 100% Basing this on the length of leaf and the long exposed base on the short side. Any one care to hazard an educated guess? I'm nearly 40, and can't really remember Elms of this size from my youth, (especially residing as I do "dan saf" ) so it's a bit of an eye opener for me, what with DED. Actually left rubber on the road as I skidded to a halt driving passed it. The much better half thought I had run over a pheasant or somfink Oh woe is me, how sad I have become
  5. Just spent a couple of weeks up in Yorkshire, Tyneside and Cleveland well away from the epicentre of this 'orrible little pest. It was very refreshing to come across Aesculi either in stands or growing solitary seemingly unaffected. Was wondering how far either Southwest or North has Cameraria actually spread so far? What is your experience of it and where are you? Guess Alice Holt would tell me if I asked, but I'm more interested in the Hands on Nationwide Arb interaction stuff. David .
  6. Couple of the Rigging for the infamous Zip. Last one is every self-respecting Arbos most prized asset Tamely set up in regards to Mr Lofthouse's usual aplication
  7. 1st - Dean, Pete, 18 stoner and his groundie Tom. 2nd - Pete & Peter practising for the 2012 Syncronised Rigging Freestyle event. 3rd - a nano second before a second picture which showed Deans head far too comfortably close to his muckers groin region.
  8. ........what about the Tree community?? A Tree is not the total sum of it's own parts. A healthy Tree needs root and soil interaction with microbes, fungi, bacteria, invertebrates and so on........these essential elements are inbalanced in the urban environment today, supplying dead woody matter to redress this; in my relatively insignificant opinion, is a small but critical part of our "Tree Care Industry" What says you Martyn? .
  9. I'm out of the office on 'oliday tup north, i shall bend my considerable will towards this fine request when I get back home. Keep um peeled. For your viewing pleasure.............http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=440 .
  10. I wouldn't be too sure about that. got one or two of a particularly compromissing situation for Mr Lofthouse Keep um peeled .
  11. You miss read Huck.... reduction, not topping required .
  12. Defo Dean , there are loads in Londons balmy climate. In that size garden, I'd imagine there will be a need for a regular reduction regime. . .
  13. We were not fortunate enough to get the trip to North Wales, but did get Richard down for four days. Treevolution are an excellent training provider. No matter how experienced any one is, I would strongly recommend everyone (and I do appreciate the cost implication) to attend this course, either as a virgin to dismantling or as a refresher for those of us that more than likely have forgotten some of the finer aspects of this technical discipline over years of complacency and over confidence. .
  14. Remarkable accuracy, V glad it wasn't one of Bobs preffered projectiles (Conkers)............ .
  15. Now sporting seed pods the size of a Rhinos, but won't hold it against you. You can't miss oportunities in life, will add to the memories of my trip up here. Went and saw Gordale scar today, well impressed Spent a while scoping the finger holds up the face up to the cave, Damn the ravages of time and the floating miniscus........................well that and a spare tyre or two .
  16. Hello Bob. It's usually helpful to add photos to this type of query. Height, lean, targets and id of fungi are all things to consider, but difficult to form an opinion without any visual aid. .
  17. I got one back in 06, we don't really use all that often espeicially since one of the team shortened it by half an inch at the tip, whilst it was in the back cut Think it was about 80 quid. It does work. .
  18. Came across you saddos at Colin's great decay seminar at Barchams last year. Has been the invigouration of my personal and professional passion for all things Woody. .
  19. Great to meet you guys and gals, your northern hospitality is well merited. Got a couple of pics I'll post when I get back down south. really like your woods Dean, very jealous. Hope the event in the tropical climbs of the south, materialises with the same level of enthusiasm. Great work fellas. Cant believe Peter flushed them cuts on the Oak lift. Where were the Coros ? .
  20. Ben/Steve, was wondering if this ever happened. Or did the old girls get a reprieve? .
  21. Get the admin to do it for ya, Lee. .
  22. Not totaly related but..........Channel Four News have just ran a report on the increase of petrol theft. It's up 1000% in Suffolk in the last year. .
  23. Andrew Kennedy, 58, who has lived in the area for over 20 years, said: "It has been dead for 15 years. It was an accident waiting to happen. The tree was obviously dead and should have been dealt with. It just couldn't cope with the wind." This statement surely can't be true, can it I'm sure there's some substance to it though. I would not want to be in those Tree officers shoes Something has gone very wrong here. I shall be watching this story very closely. . .
  24. Is it too late to suggest changing the day to Sunday ? Your Northern dreaky climate looks substantialy beter for the following day.
  25. Thanks for posting Grimpeur, I hadn't picked up on this one yet. Obviously can not make assumptions as to the secondary cause of failure. But I am sick and tired of telling Transport for London and various London Boroughs to get their dead standing trees down. I'm just supprised this doesn't happen more often. Diminishing Council budgets should definately not be used as an excuse, to bide time for paying for essential Tree works. What's the state of dead standing trees in everybody else's neck of the woods? .
