  1. There's a man who knows where his priorities lie .
  2. Said the greater majority, thats my experience. You can find,..............How many actually do, Huck? .
  3. All right All right. Twas me, I confess. I can't take the guilt any more. The MEWP wouldn't reach. .
  4. I too found my self in a similar position to yourself, pondering what if anything will change after the event. 10 years on, I personaly feel nothing has changed in our relationship, on a day to day basis. However, apart from being at the centre piece of all your friends and families good will and affections during the day ( which is a seriously cool buzz ) I reckon it's really all about just having a day to commemorate you and your wifes public commitment to each other. Something that once a year ( if that is, you actually don't forget it ), helps you remmember what was and should be (imo) the biggest decision of your life. Best of luck EYT & have yourself a fantastic day.
  5. For exactly this reason, what ever level of Arbo people are, you should not be eligible for PI without at least having attended a oneday intro course on Arboriculture and Bats. I know this wouldn't hold much truck with the unwashed, but an increase in publicity for oppos and the public is definately required. Judging the response you've had to your training offer Chris, I'd say the greater majority have probably never ( or at very best, rarely do ) consider the wildlife implications of what we actually interact with on a daily basis. .
  6. Nearly two thirds of the circumference .
  7. Phytophthora ramorum Sudden Oak Death ? Not 100% convinced on this one, so am very keen to hear others views, before I give those brainiacs at Alice Holt a buzz. Hear is a very mature Quercus patrea, Sessile oak Saw this exudation on it this week, while giving the old girl a once over. As you can hopefully see from the pictures the tarry ooze is spewing forth from an open wound at about 1m from the ground. Once the liqiud has made contact with the air it is solidifying and becomes just like tar. Or is this just fermented cavity liquid evacuating ? Any takers? http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/EPAversion3.pdf/$FILE/EPAversion3.pdf
  8. This guy has foundation in his working philosophy..............but surely he's sitting back scoffing happily about the rise he has created. Smells like a Tolkein character to me .
  9. Think this is one of the Sparassidaceae family of Cauliflower fungi. Similar to S crispa which is found on conifers. Fruiting out from beside an Oak log being used to hold mulch in around the root plate of a veteran Oak.
  10. Completly girdled and out in to the root plate. Sharp intake of breath. Nasty Is that on Copper Beech? Nice photies btw .
  11. Big dissapointment. Production values were pretty good, but there was no meat in that there sarnie. I guess It was just part of a series, so was never really going to show any insight in to what the day to day training might realy be like. THREE DEATHS IN SIX WEEKS ON THOSE HILLS. WTF is the US equivilant of the HSE doing. .
  12. Yeah, I thought that. Possibly making it Polyporus squamosus, Dryads saddle. Could be wrong though. fungi[1].pdf
  13. Trying to limit the length of saw cut ends up putting huge tensions on the Trunk and the components of the rigging system. I'll be honest, fabricating metals together aint my bag. Guess I'll just keep cutting
  14. Yeah, we discussed this earlier today and thought the same. Thanks for your involvement though fellas, not found other outlets for this discussion. Might try Paul Muir @ Treeworks Environmental. .
  15. Dont know about the codine, but I'm on me third stella and it works wonders on me "earache" .
  16. I guess I do mean bent, but not really sure where all the forces would actually be. .
  17. Thanks for the input Deerman, I was sure that's what you meant. Out of interest what would stop the pole from being pulled out? .
  18. You could always use the catch up service @ http://www.channel4.com/ It'll be there for seven days. If it's as good as i hope, I'll be loggin on every night .
  19. Looks like Inonotus dryadeus, some times called as Oak bracket and well known to be found on Quercus. It appears from that photo to have the tell tale droplets on the edge. Congrats on your 1000th post Ben. You should get out more Image from AIE .
  20. Ooh Ooh Annex F (normative) Crown management by cutting – specialized practices .
  21. Ben, do you mean Fraxinus ornus, Manna Ash by any chance? No appologies for appearing smart, you should know better young man .
  22. Yes it did. Decided against it and straight pulled with the Tractor instead. Which is why too greater force is potentially created on the tension side of the root plate. Not really clear on what you are proposing. Can you do a diagram?
  23. Appreciated Richard. The lever arm is reduced, the potential for decay is monitored. That target does not have a particularly high footfall. If it had, the overall size and height would be adjusted accordingly and reduced further.
