  1. Great attitude that lad has Deeco, will take him far no doubt. Thanks for sharing .
  2. Aspergillus .
  3. We were in the process of reducing the canopy due the semi-autonomous units of the trunk (thanks for the term Dr Lonsdale ) were starting to open. The twig was in there to monitor the movement of the crack as the various parts of the canopy were dismantled. If the twig dropped out we would know the trunk sections were becoming more unstable as we were working it. As it was, the 15mm gap closed to 8mm by the end of the work. .
  4. had a little helper whilst checking out a delaminating flute sinus with calipers & a twig......... .
  5. Number 8's gone for a burton, can't say I'm suprised .
  6. Happy Birthday RobArb Hope you're having an easy one and not upto your eyeballs in 5837 misery .
  7. Have a look at this old thread on Armillaria and bioluminescence....... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/fungi-pictures/6129-rhizomorphs-armillaria-oak.html .

  9. Awesome power of nature, impresses me every time Thanks for posting Sure it wasn't Mutley trying to "catch that pidgeon" with a bazooka ? .
  10. Thanks for the offer, but I would need to see the specimen up close to confirm it before using it in the directory. the images do need updating though Thanks .
  11. I think it looks like Bjerkandera adusta based on size. .
  12. With a mind on what happened at the site before this is a bit too disrespectful I think, but pretty darn amazing nonetheless. NYC Freedom Tower B.A.S.E. Jump - YouTube .
  13. Was the reduction prescribed due to structural issue and it's proximity to the highway? Was the Ivy severed? Or a job for later in the year? Cheers .
  14. A general nod toward & celebration of David Lonsdales fine paper 'recognition of functional units as an aid to tree management....' in the December 2013 issue (vol 35 issue 4) of the Arboricultural Journal. thought it would be an interesting thread to show/talk about the amazing trees out there that are the sum of the seperated vascular parts....... Feel free to add images or comment on Dr Lonsdales thoughts on managing trees not just as a whole system but as segmented semi-autonomous "functional units" .
  15. Fair amount of work over that canopy. What was the spec? Do you have any closer images showing what level of foliage bearing twigs have been left? The shots contrast makes it difficult to see. .
  16. We had a sweep at work trying to guess who was selling it, my money was on you Enjoy .
  17. Thats good news, thanks for the update Paul .
  18. Any news on whether there was any interest in this Paul? .
  19. Does the girdle play any vascular role Guy? A candidate for removal to lessen the stress on the trunk and buttress in the west/north sector of the root crown? Any knowledge from the present owner as to whether the conductor has taken any hits, is this why it's broken? Any determination of internal decay at crown break? I dryadeus can be found within this region and may be at work both at the ground and at height. Any local entomologists ever carried out survey of the associated buggy species on and within it? Fine historical tree, me likey .
  20. Looks fun, hope there were no Piranha ! [ame]http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pxoyRlWKUFk[/ame] .
  21. Looks like a fair lean on it for a big lump of dead wood (or what will be dead wood) Any significant targets to be mindful of in the future? .
  22. Fair observation Rob, as the species lends itself readily to delaminating, it would make an interesting case study to see if the majority of the lateral fractures they suffer were at the exact sweet spot of tension and compression within the branch structure ie; toward the top of the branch (most probable I'd imagine) or relatively random as photos of such appear to show....... .
  23. I guess standards of work are going to vary greatly in such a big and heavily populated country, though great care and ingenuity is given to the propping of their veterans at sites of importance from what I understand from peoples reports of their travels Oops, must try not to add links without testing them first http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/fungi-pictures/10467-travelling-fungalburys.html Nothing particularly interesting tbh .
  24. No fungi ! Well that's one area this travelling fungalbury won't be likely to visit any time soon .
  25. China planting 67,000 hectares of trees around Beijing Planting forests across Beijing could help combat pollution .
