i did consider shears but several reasons put me off like how fast will they cut,can i only lift one stem at a time onto the fire ,will the fire damage them? also cost. but on the other hand it would be a one man job so maybe im wrong . i can clear 500 m a day on average just now what do you think. if you could send me the details ill definately consider it though mate thanks again

once cut and burned(keeping out the smoke as you are exactly correct) we sprayed regrowth with nu-shot its a bit better than round up as it has a sronger wetting agent that cuts through the shine on the leaves also will not kill grasses that grow to suppress weed growth and saves a lot of drilling depending on density /area

thanks for the offer but im up to my eyes the now, not complaining , still clearing ditch sides and ditching just now, then to removing 30 k of hawhorn hedge for stewardship replant ,mostly cut off at 4 inch any good trunks kept for chip burner the rest grabbed on to fire hard on the chains hiddden staples small stones you know the score thanks again though:thumbup:

thanks mate but i have one on our fendt xylon its too big,iwant to fit it on the boom just above the hitch but clear of the ram ,my aim is to winch trees out of reach down a steep bank and cant get any where near with the tractor

yes sorry i was off line couldnt answer your thread it is indeed a ditch with a wall usually on a raised drive/bank so when viewed from a distance your view is not affected by a fence or similar .........or so im told and yes the roots are destroying the wall

dont know much about horses but chipped and supplied 200t norway spruce for an arena but after six months its too dry and cant be wetted ? sand ash mix seems to be the thing sorry its not exactly the thread mate

they are indeed unmanaged and app 150 years old (not my guess}but are growing on and destroying a {ha-ha}therefore pine will be planted back a bit

i have been offered a job to remove 50 trees forming an avenue .this is being removed and i will plant 100 scots pine i never rated lime as fantastic fire wood ,the owner reckons it will make good chips for his boiler .any other uses out there whats your opinion cheers lads

hi guys anyone know of a hydraulic winch to fit on blade or front of boom on a6t tracked 360 degrees excavator we use in forestry/woodland jobs this would be fitted just above grab i would load up pics if knew how anyway winch could be rated to 4t thanks in advance for any info:thumbup:

i personally pick up trusty old 262 but cant beat the grunt of 575 when the going gets tough on dead elm etc but like they said must be sharp and crucially depth guages set correctly

i agree with you mate but ive done the sums ie cost of wood ,labour,fuel,delivery etc not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs but 50 pound is minimum to make some profit anyone agree:confused1:

as said above you can burn them . i removed a couple of acres last year and sowed grass on the bare ground worked a treat suppressing weed growth any stump regrowth was sprayed off aswell . best tool tor this job is jcb ours is a6ton machine with a rehandling grab (look at digbits) pulls them out or cut them over to save diturbance then burn the lot but as said stay out the smoke

i thought the forums intention was to help like minded people in the same industry to share ideas and thoughts saying that nobody gets anything easy thats not to say you cant give advice.whether you take it or do whatever with it is up to you .i think some replies are sharper than their saws mind you ....

netting machine is only a tipping tray which im sure every body has now but as isaid they werent invented back then and mind many hours filling bags nets by hand. i use 3120 regularly as mainly big hardwoods dutch elm trees no way 18inch will do even with a bore cut i would if i could as you know how heavy the bloody thing is

come on boys give the guy a break ,forums werent invented when we started or i for one would have asked the same quetions but here goes any way most of what we use tractor log splitter 3120 395 575 262 357 242 saws netting machine landrover trailers pickup storage facilities workshop and i have probably forgotten loads more except as said dry wood and customers give it atry mate see how it goes best of luck

on the subject of builders bags i fail to see the problem as said as long you are clear on what you are selling and not trying to sell a false amount its ok anyway most are repeat customers and therefore know what they are getting i have never had aproblem or complaint in15 years of using them after all its a volume same as a net of logs (ours hold app 13 logs some i see hold ten) is just that as long as you are clear you will have no problem as said logs are a long term business with money tied up years in advance if you want to retain customers

this is exactly the case on a willow at standrews cathedral .coronet cuts were made to app 9 inch diameter branches ,two years on there are "tufts" of new growth which looks anything but natural.
