  1. I have been told that grabs are regularly stolen!!! How on earth do you make them secure ?? please can you P.M me if you have any suggestions,BUT I quite understand if no one replies for obvious reasons.
  2. I am disappointed nobody has replied as to whether you think it is a good idea or not. Makes me wonder are many of you ???? and such a device would be against your interests.
  3. Is there a very small tracking device ,that could be put inside the cylinder head of an old chainsaw or mower engine ,if one removed the piston, and the whole of the item would act as the antenna for the device. The idea being you have a dummy but tracker item, amongst your your kit. I am sure such a device would be much appreciated by thieves!!!
  4. Sadly when one hears of forestry equipment from,"way off road isolated wood land operations ,sheds",being stolen one must surely start to ask oneself which individuals know that equipment is there ???? I my mind it may not always be the pikkees , as some of the larger stuff must be pinched to order or by someone short of money wanting to get started in forestry on the cheap. It is easy for people to say "this stuff is soon out of the country", where does it go abroad ,some obviously does .
  5. What concerns me is how many thieves are on forums, what ever subject they are.Of course we will never know.
  6. From what most of you have said , it seems as though the fad is not over which is good news. Seems to be great variation in how much people use/light them, but that is nothing new I guess, but I still think the novelty of lifestyle items does where off with some people, especially if there is some effort attached to the item.
  7. I am wondering if the wood burning stove is no longer the ,LIFESTYLE ,have to have item . In reality it is such a "Fag " to get going .
  8. Are game /hunting cameras any good for taking pics "AT NIGHT" of vehicle regs that should not be there as long as camera is within say 10/20ft of vehicle reg plate.
  9. I think some guys go to a firewood processor demonstration, where they have ideal processor sized wood and think WHOA that is money for old rope. They then buy a processor on finance ,a truck load or two of cordwood much of which is 18" and above in size. It is not long before that they realise that selling firewod is good for pocket money and not much else.
  10. I forgot to ask on my last post , if those of you that supply logs on line, are also experiencing a drop in sales this season.
  11. This will seem a very simpleton question to ask but does any one know where one can get historical weather data for ones local area. I am interested to know how much temps have been above average this winter, compared to the last ten years ,the number of winters I have been supplying firewood . This season the worst so far. Cheers and a Healthy ,Safe and Prosperous(as long as you dont rely on log sales) 2015.:thumbup1:
  12. Does any one else think that the "NEW Lifestyle woodburner owners",soon get fed up with the "Chore/hardwork !!(in their eyes) of lighting a woodburner, soon deters them from using it very often so they then just buy a couple of nets of logs from there local garage, rather than a load/half load from us guys. Does any one know if forecourt sales of netted logs are up,down or about average this winter so far?
  13. Due to customers wanting smaller logs (almost like large kindling to me !!!),I am considering using a 6 way splitting knife in my old Jappa 2100 processor,to save time/handling. Do any of you use or have you tried a 6way knife. There must be some good and bad points using one.
  14. C,an you suggest which type of softwood tree ,when seasoned , makes the best kindling. Thank you.
  15. That sounds interesting can you explain, please.
  16. I am interested to know if you store your firewood in a shed or have to cope storing it outside. I ask the question, as customers expectations of having dry firewood delivered are increasingly high, so much so that unless one can store AND process firewood under cover,I do not know how one can produce/deliver an acceptable product to our customers.
  17. That caught my eye as well:thumbup: Over here I expect he would be done by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority),under health and safety rules if they saw that video.
  18. There is another video which shows three trucks waiting but I can not seem to find it. If you look down the comments on the Video there are some christmas tree prices. I guess fuel is cheaper in the states but even so ££££ ?? Never the less great pilotage and coordination.
  19. Amazing skill!!!
  20. I have a Grenadier Fire lighter super piece of kit well worth the money. Grenadier Electric Fire Lighter. They would be ideal for newbbies , to fire lighting wood burners or open fires .
  21. Norwegian firewood video sort of !! A Portrait of Lars Mytting-290312 on Vimeo
  22. Do any of you promote your load of logs as a Christmas present ,getting a bit late now. I ask the question as a guy that lives in Cornwall who has daughter in our village, 200mls away from Cornwall contacted me today to deliver his daughter a load of logs as a Christmas present. Seems to be an ideal useful present to me, wish I had promoted the idea in our local paper a couple of weeks ago,OR AM I WISHFUL THINKING?
  23. I wish customers new to wood burning stoves would Google :- "Lighting a wood burning stove" videos You Tube. There are some very informative videos on the subject , for helping people new to stoves to get their stoves going . I like the one "How I burn wet frozen green unseasoned firewood in my stove",I like the air line for introducing more air!!
  24. Iexpect I am stating the obvious ,but do you have basically two types of customer,1, The traditioanal ,perhaps more elderly customer who has an open fire or wood burner using the fire /log burner as a form of heat, 2. The Lifestyle customer who has an openfire/wood burner as it is the thing to to have, BUT they are the ones who expect logs to be clean and dry, perfect in size as in Country Living Magazine but still think wood is cheap.!!!!
  25. Just wondering which weather forecasts you have a look at ,and how accurate are they. This one is from "The Farming Forum",subject Weather ;- Weatherweb TV
