  1. I have had a few enquiries from potential customers if I can supply 6" and 8" logs !! Are any of you also having enquiries for these very small logs??
  2. I have been following this thread with interest,I did not know there were so many different bars on the market. As a complete novice why do you use some of the less well know makes of bar,and do the bar makers make there own chain to be used on there bars? Why is the bar a big issue as I would have thought the quality of chain(steel used in the chain)would make the biggest difference to cutting speed? As I said I am a complete novice so excuse the seemingly basic questions !!!
  3. Some of you must have used Piranha/Rotatech chain saw chains for a while, what do you think of them. Sorry to say, but the video comparison is meaningless to me, as I am a 65 yr old sceptic. P.M's Aprreciated .
  4. How many of you guys are 65 yrs old and still breaking down 3ft /4ft + plus butts with wedges and axe 5days a week. If any of you are ,good luck to you(the saying "being a busy fool ,comes to my mind if you are") ,because I do not have the will or the patience at 65 !!!
  5. That looks to be a rare beast as I can't see it on Binderberger website. I have an ordinary Gigant 40 but I find the strengthening bar along the top gets in the way when trying load large diameter butts. So much so I hired in a large Lasco splitter on 13tonne 360 to split a lot of 3ft/4ft + diameter butts I had accumulated over the last 4yrs.
  6. What model of Binderberger splitter do you have as it looks a bit different ?
  7. In my opinion unless, you can get large 3ft to 4ft diameter for peanuts you are better off forgetting it ,due to all the hard work that goes in to it. A local land owner lets me have his knotty, on the side of steep banks (which you can hardly stand up on) for nothing, wind blown beech butts, BUT with all the work involved to get the wood to saleable logs it is all very marginal as regards the economics of the job!! "YOU DO NOT GET OUGHT FOR NOUGHT IN THIS LIFE." Never has a truer word been spoken ,especially regarding so say "FREE FIREWOOD"
  8. In the process of narrowing down which vertical splitter to buy. I have noticed on Videos that on some makes of splitter, that the LEFT PULL DOWN HANDLE HAS A PAW ON IT ,to steady the top of the log as you split it. Do you find this handle paw feature useful,as I have noticed from what I can see that Binderberger or Posch do not have this feature even though they are more pricey machines. Uniforest and Krapan do have the paw handle Rabaud does not and also on the Rabaud it looks as though one operates the up down levers from the side but it does look a very solid splitter. Thanks for any info.
  9. Is that current stock never ending???:questionmark: As one gets older one becomes very worldly wise.
  10. Thankyou. I will be comparing vertical log splitters.
  11. Are so say "Show special price",a con or genuine? No cut and dried answer expected::hmmmm:
  12. Anyone on here using an Isuzu extended cab with bed heaped for log deliveries,if so how much do have on a load roughly in cubic mtrs? I am considering buy one to replace Nissan single cab which I used to put on approx 1.6mtrs cu mtrs of LOOSE (9/10") logs. Very difficult to measure the heaped part of the load but measured as best as I could.
  13. I am in the process of looking at buyng a vertical log splitter 18ton type of machine, with a winch. What make do you guys use? Thanks for any info. I do not mind paying for quality but not for the name:sneaky2:
  14. Do any of you use a screen on the end of your firewood processor elevator,to try and let some of the very small bits fall through to the ground or big bag opened out. I ask the question as I have started processing some spelted Beech and as you know it shatters badly. Also lengths of wood very variable, so also a lot of short ends,it means there are more small and odd size bits of wood going into each load , than I would like.
  15. + 1. They are really useful and one can back in most garages and still use the Loadhandler where as you can't use a tipper.
  16. Is there a kindling machine that can "Honestly,Reallisticaly"be operated by one man. I am sure guys selling them will say they can be operated by one man, I would like to hear from any of you that "Actually Do"use one (What make and model) yourself. Very expensive to be told a machine can be operated by one man salesman and then once you have it find out it is really a two man machine.
  17. Do any of you have a winch on your vertical splitter, so you do not have to lift very heavy lengths of wood, as considering getting a splitter with winch on this October,IF they are a very useful tool. Suggestions/comments much appreciated.
  18. That looks to be an ideal unit to cope with a wide range of diameters etc. I have hired a 13ton 360 with Lasco M3 attached, for a week awesome piece of kit for breaking down 4ft+ diameter butts but over kill for small stuff.
  19. I should of said that I am asking about the cone splitters driven by hydraulic motor/s,and attached to mini, midi or Heavy Duty 360 digger e.g "Lasco" type.
  20. I am wondering if any one uses a cone splitter to split cordwood as small as 6" diameter,if you do, which make model do you use and on what size of digger. At the other end of the scale what is the largest diameter the same machine will split.
  21. I am wondering if any of you that are lifting lengths of wood, on to a firewood processor for a few hours a day, (on daily basis) suffer with "Aching calf Muscles",making walking a real effort? I ask the question as my calf muscles are now making it a real effort to walk as opposed to an effortless walk. Just wondering if the lifting is the cause of the problem. I have been to the doctor to start the ball rolling to look into the cause of my problem, but just thought I would make some enquiries on this forum.
  22. Thank you for your reply, our local plant hire company has a 6" chipper for hire certainly not up to the job.
  23. Please can some one suggest , which size of chipper I need to hire for chipping Leylanddii up to 9" diameter. Asking for advice as I know nothing about wood chippers. Thanks in advance for any info.
