  1. One plus of the cone splitter that appeals to me, is that one can split large trunks etc single handed, compared to using large Binderberger 40 ton Gigant type machine, which needs two people at least to get a good output, especially for one band man outfits like me. Comments welcome
  2. I am sure we all agree ,but there is the saying "Talk is Cheap",also I get the impression that the very damp atmosphere has caused mound to form on well seasoned logs that are in sheds. Know doubt some clever dick will say heat the shed!!!,heating a 75ft x 40ft x 14ft uninsulated shed in my case would be a rather expensive/uneconomic exercise, there is very little profit in firewood to finance sheds/ heated sheds.
  3. That is what I am saying to customers, what more can one do/ say.It must be the worst autumn/winter for damp atmosphere that you have all known in your firewood/logs supplying years, horrendous.
  4. That looks very unique, most unusual must be a niche market for type of furniture.
  5. Is there a demand for it for wood turning? In which area of Arbtalk might we find wood turners looking for "Spalted hardwoods"? Does seem a shame to burn it ,if woodturners can make use of it, as long as they will pay a reasonable price for it. In my opinion, the more spalted it is the more it shatters when split, very time consuming just cutting it in to small firewood blocks with a chainsaw,to avoid shattering it.
  6. I should think it is hellish all over the U.K today. Does your yard drain away ok Jon on the Mendips or are you in a valley, still hellish whatever!!!
  7. I entirely agree, one much better of financially, in the long run, to push ones finances to the limit and get the machine that is "Really Up to the Job in hand," the first time, I have learnt that by experience, not one to repeat.!!!!
  8. Thanks for "Arbtalk",as at least one can see that there is usually someone having the same problems as oneself,if not worse. Out of interest "The Farming Forum" is another good forum especially for machinery related problems.
  9. Iam getting seroius about investing in Lasco Cone Splitter for knotty4ft+ diameter hardwood butts I can have. Would like to hear suggestions of which one to buy, from those of you who actually have one. I realise one still needs ot purchase or hire the 360 excavator to use it on.
  10. What are the pros and cons of hardwood vs softwood chip for fueling bio mass boilers. Is old spalted beech any good as woodchip?
  11. I am wanting someone with a Lasco M3 4.0S Cone log splitter ,mounted on 13ton 360 excavator to come and split some large diameter 3ft /4ft+ knotty hardwood butts for me,in March /April. I am based between Cirencester and Cheltenham. Please PM me to discuss charges transport of equipment etc. Thankyou.
  12. One downside of the Binderberger Gigant 40 is that the strengthening bar restricts the size if trunk that you can split with it. I have one and so found out at my expense,be WARNED!! The Ryetec type 40/50 tonne splitter looks to score in that way.
  13. So what "Forestry Worker" boots ,REALLY keep your feet warm and dry and "LAST" when working in the wet and mud that we are continuously having. I am not climbing trees just on the ground in the mud like most of you I expect  Cheers
  14. Interested to know the pros and cons of cone splitter vs conventional log splitter for splitting 3ft/4ft diameter knotty hard wood butts. I know with the cone splitter one has to taken in to consideration the purchase /stroke hire of the large 360 to get the most out of the cone splitter. Serious amounts of money involved !!! Thanks for any info.
  15. I have seen "Black Powder Log Splitting" videos on "You Tube",has anyone used this technique in the U.K for splitting big trunks? I realise (1) legislation would make it very difficult/impossible to purchase, store and use black powder for log splitting. (2) Black Powder looks quite expensive to buy. Look forward to your comments.
  16. Thanks guys,a lot to be said for the old saying "get it fixed properly in the first place".
  17. I need to repair a hairline crack on the hyd oil tank on my Japa 2100 firewood processor. Would the epoxy liquid/glue type metal crack repairing products be any good for the above problem or should I bite the bullet steam the tank out and get it welded properly? Tank capacity 40ltrs. I need to get problem fixed ASAP for obvious reasons. Thanks in advance for any replies.
  18. Do the fans, that one puts on the top of your wood burning stove,to blow the warm air from the stove to the other end of the room really work?
  19. Have you had an Email today from "warehousefirewoodexport" today. Have any of you done business with them,if so is there product up to spec.
  20. I totally agree.
  21. Do road plannings vary greatly in price and quality, as I am considering getting some to go down in my wood yard. How is the best way to go about getting hold of some.
  22. Just shows their is always someone a lot worse of than ourselves, sadly we all tend to forget that, "ME" included.
  23. My yard is extremely muddy due to this continuous damp/wet weather, never known it so bad. Just wondering if any one else is experiencing the same problem. I am fortunate that the fully enclosed shed I rent has a concrete floor,so good for processing.
  24. Are Yanmar engines as good as Honda or about the same?
  25. Thanks everyone. I think the load I had in yesterday must have been stacked in the shade for eight months, it has fungus on the butts ( 3mtr lengths) but it is all very wet when logged and split 28% /30% ish , I am not a happy chappy.
