  1. Get it off the deck quick as you can before the rot sets in, & get it covered. Sent a job your way yesterday, customer of ours needs a tree surgeon, big house on the high street in Belford.
  2. It's a big industry & more varied than some folk realise. There's space for lots of different outfits working lots of different jobs. It sounds like your business concentrates primarily on large loads of timber in short spaces of time. We on other hand do allot of woodland restoration & low impact thinning. So having small gear with a tiny footprint at our disposal as well means that we can carry out this work to the very best standards. For a clear fell or heavy thin we'd take a tractor & bigger trailer, but as I've suggested it's not always what's required. The other thing I find myself considering is that not everyone has the need or indeed the money to invest in big gear. If a pedal bike towing a homemade trailer to shift a few branches cut with a pruning saw back from a local wood is all they need, haven't they shown great wisdom by not going mad with an rdpe grant & a copy of the forestry journal. This website, is not exclusive, it is as far as I'm aware open to all to join. Full time, part time, home use only, small business or big business. Stick collectors, horse loggers, quad loggers, heavy plant users, harvesters & timber merchants should I believe be able to respect one anothers methods & the areas within which they work. And above all, this thread is entitled small scale timber extraction. Am I ranting, it's a bit early for a rant, my apologies.
  3. Now you've seen the bigger bigger picture.
  4. Found a pic of our little rig, although actually it's more of a middle rig as we also have a logic timber trailer like the one theo is selling, but we only really use it on very small stuff to be handballed. This one however we use allot & it's excellent.
  5. We've been toying with the idea of running our old car on wood gas, for a while. Carrying charcoal is very light, would be a great fun thing & I dare say good advertising.
  6. Were you still interested in mine as I may advertise it next month.
  7. How long before someone posts that flaming <no pun intended> poem about ash being fit for a queen & so on........... If you're a woodsman or a firewood merchant, you should know your woods & their qualities, & be able to share that with your customers.
  8. I hope you're not including me in that comment
  9. Hi, yeah tried that, but didn't seem to give enough airflow. How big were your holes & how many a side:confused1:
  10. Hello, does anyone have any vented bags that they would be happy to sell. Barrow bags would be great, but could do with a few dumpys too. Drop us a line if you can help. Cheers. ps I know where I can buy new ones, I'm asking specifically if anyone here has any to sell.
  11. Great tool, love our defender & can't imagine life without it, but the Disco has more comfort, better heating & is cheaper to run.
  12. Nah, sorry. wont work in our location. The forks has it.
  13. :biggrin:We think the extended fork lift prongs has it. We could get one of those forklift attachments for the back of the tractor, extend the forks & use that. We don't need to worry about unloading it at the other end, that's not a problem. We really like the hiab idea, but don't like fitting a heavy crane to the front of the trailer, messing up the smooth tow of it,risk exceeding the nose weight & slowly killing the cluth & rear cross on the truck. A partner with a showmans license helps, but doesn't win every driving battle! Thanks all for your input, I think the thread has run it's course, I shall go back through & find whoever suggested fork extensions first & be intouch.
  14. We're not there yet, but I feel we're close! Thank you all, some great thoughts here, keep it comin' guys.
  15. Hi, nice idea, but pallet truck won't work in the woods or on gravel driveways. Thanks though.

  16. I like it, Need to think it through more, but not bad.
  17. That still means loading the bags by hand, or only being able to process straight into empty bags on the trailer. We would like like to have 1m3 bags stored in our yard ready to go, but need to be able to get them onto the trailer, full. Thanks though.
  18. Good, but not we're looking for. Don't own one, not buying one just to load the trailer with. Thanks though. Next!
  19. RIGHT FUNNY MAN, THAT IS SURELY THE BEST ANSWER WE WILL GET, NOT THE ONE WE WERE HOING FOR,BUT ALMOST CERTAINLY THE BEST:thumbup1:
  20. Our fork lift wont get them in there. From the back the ramp is in the way, & from the sides, the wheels on the trailer are in the way. Next!
  21. Allo all. Right, a special prize for the person who comes up with the best method of loading a 1m3 bag of firewood onto the trailer in the picture. We were sure we'd thought of every possible method, but thought we'd get the opinions of others who do it day in day out.
  22. A processor on Orkney, what with all the trees they have, nah. I'm happy to be wrong & I hope that I am I'm big on Karma & like to think the best of folk, but my hunch would be that it's the same idiot discussed recently for trying to sell that little Japa. He was also a new ebay user, with no feedback,in a remote part of the UK, & was up to no good. Sorry I should add to answer your question, that no I have no idea about the machine, apologies for hijacking it with my little rant.
