  1. There is a second hand machine here for sale (but its in Ireland) and not cheap! Firewood Processor For Sale For Sale in Kildare : €5,500 - DoneDeal.co.uk
  2. Spoke to owner again this weekend. Apparently they all blossomed alright, so as you said perhaps a late frost (There were some cold mornings in May this year, and on a local level could have bad enough to do damage).

  4. Thanks Slack, Ill pass that on. They are dwarfs alright, good pruning tips, thanks. Don't think its been fertilized, Tony. Thanks though. Thanks Alex for the detail here. I need to ask about the blossom? Lack of pollination is a distinct possibility but can't think why. Is there a specific window of time for this? It could well have been a very localised weather event that caused problems here. Frost I think might v=be ruled out as the site did seem quite sheltered - who knows though, there were some cold mornings well into May this year. Thanks for the pruning tips, ill pass this on.

Thanks, first real outing its had. Cross-cut about 8m3 of billets with it during that weekend session. Should look a little rougher as time goes by. Its been dry and warm here this autumn so far, thus the surroundings still don't look to muddy and grimy yet.
  6. As far as I know the owners haven't ever pruned these trees, but somebody esle mentioned that problem as well, especially when its a heavy prune.

Wow,long way from home. Bet it was an amazing summers work, cold hands or not. Or maybe it was like the romantic image everyone has of irish bogs - never the same until you experience a summers work on one, getting eaten alive by midges, cut hands, sore back etc haha.

Cheers Dermot, I'll pm you my contact details. Same Jon, tried every shop in Ireland and was told the same thing until I got lucky
  9. Would love to engineer something like this. Crafty DIYer. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B10Io7MLp1Y]Home Built Chainsaw Winch - YouTube[/ame]
  10. No worries, yeah Ive been told that from time to time these sort of fruit tree's just take a break in the cycle every so often and put all their energy into new growth which bypasses the fruiting. odd though as this small orchard contains a few different varieties. Somebody else talked of a pollination issue.
  11. Was asked about this at the weekend, 3 trees - Kathy and discovery varieties. 10 years in the ground. Has been producing fruit, until this season. No fruit this year, but vigorous growth throughout. Is this common in apple tree's and what may have caused it to pump all its energy into new growth rather then fruit? Could it be stress related - we had a very dry spell here in Ireland through the mid summer months. thanks.

Turns out it was a brand new ex stock 460 indeed. Got it with a 25'' bar. Its the biggest saw Ive ever used, having upgraded from a 261. Cant believe the speed and guts it has for its weight. Granted I wouldn't like to cross cut all day with it, but what a saw. Very happy cutting this season.
  13. I have the older version of this Negri, il marchio verde - Biotrituratori - R225 - R225T (The R220T) I run it on an old 35 no worries. 4'' capacity, built-in hydraulic pump for infeed roller, removable blades on drum with shredding hammers for dirty stuff, direct shaft drive with shock absorbers (no V-belts to worry about). I bought it second hand for about a grand, so you can pick them up reasonably cheap. Have run it on an estate for about 3 years now, no problems whatsoever. Great little chipper.
  14. Setup coming together nicely Woodworks. Far cry from your old wooden saw rack (which I'm sure still earns its keep on the small diameter stuff). Doses the little log lift struggle on the larger butts?
  15. Like the little winch behind the bucket, looks handy - will it lift much?
  16. That's a mid 1980's model. Genuine vermeer alright. this would be its modern day equivalent: http://www2.vermeer.com/vermeer/NA/en/N/equipment/brush_chippers/bc600xl
  17. If I was you, I would buy in loads of small diameter first thinning's. That way your starting fresh with all the material in one designated place and no energy spent scavenging/collecting. Cross cut 1 meters lengths in the stack, split billets, cross cut on a saw bench, and collect in a front end loader bucket for heaping. 1m lengths of first thinnings should be a nice light and regular size to deal with and should only require a single split. A log pick or sappie should eliminate bending, billets should be very light to handle, bench saw is operated at waist height. Unlike the processor this system should keep you in contact with the timber at least, which is what it is all about when your doing firewood for yourself and enjoying it. Unless I was doing it commercially, a processor for me would totally limit my exposure and connection to the timber, and take the fun out of it, it would essentially just mean tinkering with levers all day and get quite boring I would imagine.
  18. you could buy one of these types of pumps pictured, presume you have a spool valve on the splitter itself with connecting input/output pipes that fit the tractors back end spools. I think the circuit would be splitter spool valve return oil pipe (which you already have) coupled (plug and play) to a new return pipe into reservoir. then a connecting output from reservoir to pump. And another pipe connecting pump back to splitters spool valve input pipe (coupled here again for easy plug and play). I'm no expert mind.
  19. What I do: Mine geologist why I use forum: Son of a gardener, so have an interest in all things tree's. I'm a machinery enthusiast - like the sections on here that showcase this in their natural working environments. Genuine guru's of the trade on here always willing to take time out to distribute information, showcase alternatives and answer questions, queries and problems. There are some great characters on here as well, that always being a smile to my face.
  20. Evil looking truck, whats the front and back end based on?
  21. Summer burn up x2
  22. I'll see what i can do mate. Saw this last autumn back home in Co. Sligo, haven't a notion what the chassis was, but it looked cool. Was gonna follow her up the road and get a better look, but was heading the other way unfortunately.
  23. stick an old caravan on the chasis and done, great idea that. There is a non runner lurking about on site, and its another Bremach utility Haven't seen it or any others (bremach's) in action in my time, circa 8 years so probably well seized up now. What kind of info are you looking for? I could contact some of the surface workshop fitters/supervisors for you.
  24. Bremach 4X4 For Sale in Carlow : €2,600 - DoneDeal.co.uk Pity she isn't a tipper version, with pto etc, but looks as though it could be a handy tool for someone.
  25. Cool, I'll have a browse back through that thread. Should have coped the tractor model from your profile name.
