  1. Haha yes it was tongue in cheek hence the If it worked people would be doing it.. Im hoping to get a rope runner although I was late to jump in on the SRJ order Pretty please can I have one Kevin its all I want for christmas:biggrin:
  2. Good.. wee bit bouncy. If you want uber low stretch get the american non ce version
  3. Sorry I have to disagree.. If you don't tie a knot correctly it will not work no matter what the knot.. If people can't tie bowlines properly, don't use them. If you can't tie a figure of 8 properly don't use it. It's the person that tied it wrong at fault. Not the knot:001_rolleyes:
  4. 10 points to the man in the know. You can get them pre made from treestuff. Branded as a HAAS (Haul Ass Ascent System). I prefer wrench rocket
  5. Probably the most versatile extra tool for me these days. Its a false redirect, temporary connection to the rope for coming back through redirects, used to lower myself back across from redirects far apart when I don't use the horse knot (thanks for that one Kevin), and if you really get into trouble you can use it (dare I say it) DdRT with your tail.
  6. Minimum slack in the rope, arms straight and a loose grip on the rope. If you have the right amount of wraps on it should run freely and can be stopped smoothly by a gentle squeeze of one hand. Let them run as far they can go without hitting what you are trying to avoid Try not to go from running free to dead stop immediately as it creates unneccesary shock. Smooooth stops. You don't just stamp on the brakes in the car
  7. Loving the get out clauses!! You have to put a bit more thought into the angles and forces with those skinny redirect, based anchored climbs. Load them along their strong axis and its fine, bend them sideways and its not so good.. Watching kevins honey locust footage shows some lovely angles Im such a geek..
  8. I damaged some eucs in oz when I tried it. Maybe it was partly the time of year too. I felt a bit guilty.. Ali ring is so clean and smooth and if you want to change to DdRT it just floats above your system. Back to SRT? send a spiked alpine back up and jobs a good'n
  9. Think he means midline bunny ears figure of 8 knot with a steel biner to captivate the other side of the line.. Quicker to clip and un clip than the maillon and less damage to the trunk on trees to be retained. Those maillons mash smooth/soft barked trees
  10. Hi Marc. Yea pantin on one foot. Short footloop to croll at knee height to elastic over the shoulder to drag the croll up on the other foot. Both legs sit stand or alternating legs Keeps the toother ascenders below the climbing system and not tethered to me for life support opps
  11. Make my own monkeytail/multisaver. Too short for a 6 wrap. Ive got Ewan on this. Blakes is king. If either leg on the prussic fails you are still up sheet creek. Recently if I use the multisaver type thing, Ive been using the ring anchor idea drew posted up ages ago. I use the tail of the multisaver to tie into the alpine to back up. No need to use up extra biners and another link out of the system Maillons are cool. Rock solid and simple! If I want midline attachable im using the pinto alpine anchor
  12. 10 points for the wife beater coleman. Struggling to keep up with Bolam and the big snatch
  13. pantin and knee bungee footloop ascender thing
  14. Yep its easy to mess them up and not notice if you are rushing. I tend to tie the bowline, cinch it up nicely, then just loosen it a little to rethread the tail, then cinch her back up carefully keeping an eye on your loops
  15. Uni wrench, killing it on removals. Wrench/HC for pruning.
  16. Some crap pics of said tether. Pretty standard split leg tether. Used rubber spacers at the wrench end to pack out the attachment point. 6mm OV quardupled, lock stitch to death, then tape and heatshrink x4. 2 or 3 layers of heat shrink on the split legs too.
  17. Loving base anchoring Nothing to get stuck!
  18. The amount of stitches I put in the that little bu@@er I'll be gutted if it stretches much!
  19. Cambium saver top tip works beautifully as long as the cambium saver can't/doesn't get stuck. Great for retrieval as its much lower friction so you dont need that pull down side with you if you go off course as you say. Easy to pull out a couple of redirects I found Then I got the cambium saver stuck...
  20. Yea for sure Drew, the abr ones are rock solid with mountains of stitching. I wanted to have a crack at making one for the HC myself. Do abr do split eyed tethers? Ive added another layer of heat shrink to my abr one and put it on my mk1 wrench
  21. You're right Marcus, you can teach an old dog new tricks:001_tongue: You are right Marc, it forms an integral part of the climbing system and I believe they should be rated.. Why would you risk it for a chocolate bisquit:confused1: In the event of wrench/tether failure, a munter off a leg loop will do the job, with the hitch remaining as a hands off stop. I usually keep a spare biner on my harness anyway.
  22. Hi Munky on those busy trees I tend to base anchor, then move up with slings and biners advancing the base anchor. When i get to the top do a midline bowline with a bight or circus bowline and a pinto anchor. The I get the guys on the ground to untie the base anchor, pull the tail up and over the fork to become the retrieval side of my top tie and it comes up and out of the slings. Take them out on the way down working the other side of the tree to the one I came up on. retrieve to top tie with the tail. Either that or just do it all off a base anchor. If I use a base anchor for the whole tree I work one side on the way up get to the top and strop in, get the lads to untie the base anchor and re tie it with my tail. Harder if you use a wrench because you need to retie your system. Uni is king
  23. Just made a beauty out of 4 way folded ocean vectran, rated to 22kn It had about 3 passes of lock stitching along to whole length. I would like to break test it but its just so pretty. Some steps along the road to rated tethers, which I am sure cant do any harm for getting the wrench allowed in comps. Even though it doesnt neeeeeed to be rated!!! Split leg type for the hitch climber and a tad longer than the abr ones so I can run a longer hitch if needed. Will try to get a photo at work tomorrow if i remember. Being 6mm cord, it leaves more room on the biner so I can use 10mm hitch cord and still squeeze it all on a petzl william biner with out loading up the nose of the biner too badly.
