  1. Why not cut it off and have it mounted on the wall. Better than moose antlers any day.
  2. When will they realise how many UK gardens have 30 inch gates (of which 1 inch is jams) and people always put sheds/ greenhouses close to the end of the side access so turning a 'tight fit' machine can be a nightmare. Predator still seem to be the only ones in the 'narrow' market - and they give a choice of 38hp petrol or 28hp diesel. Even their 50hp diesel isn't much wider. Please, someone build a 50hp diesel - mounted in-line with hydraulic power to wheel to keep it narrow - to fit through a standard gate without the need for carpentry. As a matter of interest, what is the weight and price of the Herder.
  3. I recall an article in one of the mags saying that HSE figures show a heavy bias towards the end of the day for accidents. IIRC the article was titled 'Don't let your last cut be your last cut'. Be aware of fatigue, don't let anyone start putting tools away until you've finished- otherwise you end up 'making do' rather than using the right tool. Be prepared to come back another day, it's not your fault someone got the estimate wrong, why pay for their mistake with your health/life. Someone on here has the strap-line 'Good work positioning is everything' Its all been said before, but we are all too frequently reminded of the importance. Take care, don't judge others harshly, and learn from all available information.
  4. The only solution to prevent such misguided enthusiasm is to fully enclose the infeed chute.
  5. Gotta be worth £1,500 surely
  6. We did this a while back and found that no less than 40% of sickies were on Monday or a Friday:thumbdown:
  7. Send a text back saying 'Dont need you for the rest of your career - for personal reasons'
  8. Not sure they 'like' it, but they certainly enjoy the challenge of growing back. You can almost stand and watch the new growth. The only euc I ever killed way my own one when I tried to re-locate it when it had reached 10 ft tall.
  9. Don't bother with multi tip. They do NOT cut as well as they say - wiyhout loads of power. I run rhino teeth on my 25hp machine now and they are twice as quick as the multis AND you can sharpen them far more easily. Go with the smaller green teeth or your sanity will be jeopardised.
  10. I've just given two tons of beech to a local log man (a member on here). I'm happy to get shot of it and have him clear the stuff off site. He's happy to get a 'load' for free. Last time I tried selling a tree I was told to ???? off by the local loggies. Still, like you say, its a learning curve. Good luck Also gotta say removing a 80ft and 60 ft beech isn't a shabby start for a newbie. Well done.
  11. If the v belts are twin belts with a 13mm width they should be fine, they are used on some of the bigger machines like the 25hp predators so its really the safety issue of a bigger guard, it may be fine but it will not be CE approved - I'm all for a mod that works safely.
  12. I put green teeth on my Rayco SG13 (very similar to your grinder) and they are really good. Just make sure you chose a set up that fits insde the wheel housing. Easy to sharpen and quick to turn when in use.
  13. Where you look is not as important as HOW you look. By that I mean ebay, Gumtree, Autotrader, Free ads, auctions - will all have good and bad. People on here will no doubt recount varied experiences. If you don't buy new, make sure you check out as much as possible, both on the van and the paperwork. If in doubt walk away.
  14. I think the ground was subsiding due to the number of people he had living in the place. On a serious note - this is a case where (right/wrong apart) Professional Indemnity cover is essential. It's difficult to make any judgement on a press report but how clearly were the issues with the trees relayed to the LA?
  15. Why is it that no matter how carefully a groundie places the access ladder, the climber ALWAYS has to move it (sometimes twice so it ends up where the groundie put it in the first place)?
  16. I did that earlier today, it was a coule of years back and a lot of it was cash so that limits the card scamming possibility. Not a lot they can do really.
  17. I don't consider them mine till I'm certain all is straight. It would be unwise to publish an accurate list yet as anyone could just say 'Yeah that is all my stuff' I looked on Arbsafe but nothing anywhere near.
  18. Ive just had a look on google maps at the address on the harness receipt (which was paid for with cash) and behold, its 3-4 minutes walk from where we were working. This lot reeks of a poor desperate social fallout rather than a light fingered fellow. On closer inspection, the carabiner ident numbers actually match those on the receipt too. Blimey!
  19. I did buy it with a view to getting it to its rightful owner - hence this thread. If i am wrong then at least I got some decent kit.
  20. We had the most bizarrre thing today. Had a guy (looked like a dropout from Stonehengers) come and ask me if I wanted to buy his climbing kit for £50. I responded with the usual 'Bugger off, LOLER issues, life depends on it etc' and he said its all perfect condition and barely used. By now we had all gathered to explain that we don't encourage buying dodgy gear. He then claimed he had all the original receipts so he could prove it was legit. He looked pissed/drugged but said he would go and get it from his flat for us to look at. We played along so while he was gone we phoned round the local shops to see if any of them knew of a recent theft - nothing. Ten minutes later he rocks up with his female friend and an armful of goodies. Immaculate harness, gleaming carabiners, rope, climbing helmet and says he is desperate for money! He looked like the usual addict (as did his female thing). I repeated our reluctance to buy second hand then SHE said 'we really need the money, give us £30 ' I asked where they had got it from and that I would never buy anything without the original receipt. With that he left all the gear with us and they went back home. Ten minutes later he returned with proper receipts for everything. My groundie could not get through to the police in the mean time so I made a decision! I figured if I pay him the £30 there are two possibilities Best for me... It was his gear and I get a bargain from a desperate drug addict but he is happy - but I have lost some moral high ground - though he willingly sold his stuff to feed his habit. Worst case scenario.. It is stolen and I have received stolen goods. BUT if I can find the original owner, then at least they will be re-united with their kit. That's the reason for this message. If anyone has recently lost a set of climbing kit (though he has given me matching receipts for it all - so how did he get them?) please let me know the make of harness, karabiners, helmet and rope - along with some proof of ownership and I will get them to you. It cost me £30. I'm not celebrating because, even if it all legit, the poor sod has descended from well equipped tree climber to fallen addict. If its not legit - hopefully I can find the rightful owner. IIRC Andy GAle was turned over recently, PM me Andy with details of any climbing kit you lost in that 'kin raid. Lets keep it tight out there PS - Im not going to use the kit till I am fully confident of its origin. Shane
  21. Would the NHS be better or worse if doctors and nurses had more patients? and why is dyslexia so hard to spell?
  22. Wasn't the 020t the one with the brontosaurus guard fitted:lol:
  23. Its always a conundrum. Publicise the latest method to warn potential victims, but show lesser aware scum how to do it? No idea what the answer is really.
